I guess it's because of the part where they show how Zuko and Katara (actors) barely had any scenes together and yet "they fell in love and now they are the best possible couple"
Just like it happened in the series but the zutara shippers refuse to see that
It's more their reaction to it. If the play stayed the same but they reacted differently, you could draw another conclusion. The fact that Katara and Zuko seemed bewildered and almost disgusted by the idea is what killed it.
It's more that Kataang has almost no chemistry. She spends a huge amount of time freaking out about the kiss that never gets resolved and she's also almost too nurturing for Aang, who needs someone more like Toph who can poke him and get him to do stuff.
That's the only scene they have directly addressing it, in this episode that we are discussing as the one that shot down Zutara where almost every scene has a gag poking fun at Aang's insecurity that she doesn't see him as a man.
The real issue is that he's not there with her in the Southern Raiders. That should have been a Zuko/Aang/Katara episode. Aang has very little presence in-between the Day of the Black Sun and the finale and Season 3 and in particular the Aang/Katara romance suffers heavily for it.
>The real issue is that he's not there with her in the Southern Raiders
You misjudge what the Southern Raiders was for, Aang being there would have made it awful. Katara came to the conclusion herself without needing Aang to guide her step by step, and Zuko being there AND suggesting it was a sign of his willingness to seek reparation and understanding Katara's origin. The purpose is to set Katara and Zuko square for once. Aang's lack of presence in that episode doesn't detract from Kataang's romance, if anything it strengthens it by showing that they don't need to be side-by-side to influence one another.
Its interesting how much Zutara talk is focused on they did something together one time. Not an extended period of getting along well and generally having a positive effect on each other. But you fall in love by being in someone's presence when what fans deem their biggest plot points happens. Zuko wasn't even particularly helpful for her growth, the rest of the Gaang would've discouraged her earlier which is probably why they aren't present. Zutara is treated as this fairly tale thing which doesn't really fit with how the show portrays relations.
Katara needs someone like Aang to help tap into her inner child she had suppressed. Katara was motherly by necessity not because she's necessarily that way naturally. With Zuko, you get the idea he was always going to end up a somewhat serious bloke regardless of whatever happened in his family life.
>Katara needs someone like Aang to help tap into her inner child she had suppressed.
This is probably the best argument I've heard in favour of their relationship, and it's a shame that Aang has so little presence in the Runaway which is literally all about this
>Katara was motherly by necessity not because she's necessarily that way naturally.
The thing is, however it became a part of her life it *is* a part of her life. It's part of who she is now, she's an incredibly mothering, nurturing individual to a fault (the fault being automatically assuming she knows the best for other people).
I guess I think we needed a scene of Aang being more assertive in their relationship (a sign that he's matured specifically in the context of Katara, so that she couldn't just mother him and in turn he could give her the excuse to rely on others). But we don't get that, and honestly I think they should have gotten together before the finale for the relationship to work. The joke in the EIP could simply be that he's insecure a bit still and she could reassure him.
They did have this moment of Aang being confident and assertive which got Katara blushing. It's a far cry from when he was stuttering just talking to her.
Katara needs someone like Aang to help tap into her inner child she had suppressed. Katara was motherly by necessity not because she's necessarily that way naturally. With Zuko, you get the idea he was always going to end up a somewhat serious bloke regardless of whatever happened in his family life.
Now to be fair, Kataara would often get Aang to do things a lot by giving him perspective and reassurance that he was indeed human and not a saint. This was something Aang often needed, otherwise he’d be used by military powers like that one earth General trying to train his avatar state. Aang would in turn help give Katara drive he was the key to her leaving the southern water tribe and led to her mastering water bending. Aang also greatly respected Kataara by trying to teach her in secret what he learned himself before she was allowed to train properly. Aang also would stand his ground with her like when he told her revenge was wrong when she wanted to find her mothers killer. Aang respected her enough to not stop her but instead told her outright his belief on it which was the opposite of hers. I can see how with these little bits and much more they could grow to like each other. I don’t care if you like it or not but if you can’t see how people that spent over a year with each other having these experience could have a connection that started as friendship and cooked into something more you’re crazy. Also don’t forget Kataara saw the worst in other guys like Jett and Zuko. I don’t understand how anyone could still see Zuko happening after the end of Season 2. I’m not saying it’s impossible to forgive someone after that, but it would clearly shine them in a different light and romantically isn’t it.
It's the milquest of toast, no doubt. Twilight-level buffoonery.
Sokkatara is the real ship. Zuzula would be strong too, but Tyzula takes precedence. And this combination frees up the two characters needed for Zuki to happen, which also ultimately results in Taang. All the pieces fall into place.
I've noticed most shippers these days have no idea how shipping worked back then.
Like so many ships hailed as iconic LGBT ships now have fanbases who are blissfully unaware that their ship was once carried by horny heterosexual women
>once
Still are, it's just those horny women also have political inclinations as well. Usually just as a cudgel to say not supporting their ship is latent homophobia.
It's a better narrative. >Girl from country most affected by the war clashes with then allys herself with the prince from country who is attacking hers in the first place.
Did you not watch the tv show?
Where they ended up in a more intimate relationship then Aang could ever hope to achieve?
Someone mentioned how they literally shared the same series climax of fighting Azula.
>similar age / attractiveness >literal opposites attract >Katara and Zuko are the number one candidates for self inserters while the other is the safest partner choice from the cast
Also Aang and Katara is such a weird choice for numerous reasons. It comes in so late it feels creepy. They established their relationship on completely different standards. Childhood friends turned lovers really only works if they were both prepubescent before.
You forgot the biggest reason of all >enemies to lovers
People eat that shit up like a 5 star gourmet meal and will overlook a lot of downfalls and toxicity because that trope create so much spice that overshadows it all.
That is part of the opposite trope but yeah, especially women love that shit. >watch romantic anime made for women >the heroine is forced to live together with a handsome, rich, noble badboy >constantly shits on him and complains about everything he does >suddenly OH NO I'M IN LOVE WITH HIM
Aang's only crime is being a boring (note: I didn't say "bad") protag. Katara was motherly and the point of Aang was his innocence as a kid, so it was like a caretaker-child relationship. The relationship was forced as frick, but I guess the writers couldn't help themselves and HAD to give Aang a love-interest because of the bullshit Hero's Journey template seasoned writers just can't pry themselves from.
Anyway, Zutara sucks too.
I liked Suki x Sokka because we weren't forced as audience members to see their intimate moments, so there was nothing for the writers to frick up. Old men writing children is weird enough without them making their OCs kiss.
I know Aang’s a kid but forcing a kiss twice and nodding when it’s mentioned Katara’s the “Avatar’s girl” really gives the idea that he doesn’t see her as an equal sometimes. If he were older, more alarm bells would go off. The dynamic’s all fricked up with Kataang. Honestly, no romance at all would’ve been better for the show.
>I know Aang’s a kid but forcing a kiss twice and nodding when it’s mentioned Katara’s the “Avatar’s girl” really gives the idea that he doesn’t see her as an equal sometimes
Why would you frown on the most based aspect of their relationship? He's the Avatar and she isn't. She will never be his equal.
I’m not talking about power since Aang’s obviously is stronger than her. I’m talking romance and if he doesn’t respect Katara of all people enough to actually look for consent and not see her as beyond a role as a gf (when they weren’t even dating or made any real talk about their relationship), then why should anyone care about their romance? If he wasn’t her friend or older she’d probably slap the shit out of him for that and call him a sexist pig or something like that. Him forcing himself on her might be based but that doesn’t make it good.

>consent
More like basic human decency. For a monk and a preacher of nonviolence, you’d think Aang would give more space to see if Katara actually reciprocated his feelings first before jumping on her. But no, kiss first out of the blue and risk her getting pissed off, which she did. >Katara ought to be honored that the Avatar is interested in her at all
If she was any other girl, sure. But considering how much Katara seethed over Pakku and the Northern Water Tribe’s customs for women, along with her respect for Kanna, that won’t work for her. You know what’s funny, the reason he escaped the iceberg was because she was laying into Sokka for his attitude towards women, so if anything he should be honored because he probably would’ve been stuck there until the end of time if it wasn’t for her.

Again, this presumes a westernized, modern morality wherein what a woman wants is considered relevant, which is not a thing which does or should exist in a premodern asian setting. What matters is that a powerful wants her and (sometimes) whether or not her father consents to the marriage.

But that’s the thing, my argument doesn’t focus on any of that. It’s focused on the romance writing between Aang and Katara. The reason I brought Pakku, Kanna and Sokka up is because they have roles in the formation of Katara’s character. This doesn’t have anything to do with how “based” their relationship is, Aang’s view towards her is basically like a reflection of what she hates. So I ask again, why should anyone give a shit about their romance? For a show that’s tightly written in many places, the romance sucks absolute ass.

Because it’s a story of her learning to get over herself and like it.

If this was actually written in the show, I might’ve agreed with you there but no, there’s no build up there. She acted confused up until the very end and then boom, sucking face with Aang final scene. Look, a romantic relationship between them could’ve worked to be if the writers took the actual effort to build it but I never got the sense they cared and just said frick it at the very end.

If the show really followed any of the premodern morality you're talking about then
He would also agree that Zuko deserved the burn for daring to speak against his dad.
Would have been the show's conclusion for Zuko instead of the redemption arc.
>because of the bullshit Hero's Journey template seasoned writers just can't pry themselves from.
That doesn't make any sense, considering the actual Hero's Journey template doesn't involve romance in any capacity. If anything, it's surprisingly bereft of it despite the common nature of inserting romance shit into such a story. I guess the 'Ultimate Reward' could be interpreted as such but that's thin at best.
>It comes in so late it feels creepy.
It was at the forefront since the start of season 2, anon. You'd have to be delusional to think it anywhere close to a last minute decision, it was obvious from the start.
Remember how Katara got tied up to a tree and Zuni started talking to her in a certain way? That got women to cream their pants just like in how in shoujo anime/manga they love tall handsome chads with big hands that want to rape them.
Then you have the catacombs scene with her touching his scar and saying she can heal him and I remember that drove the fangirls insane.
Enemies to lovers. Every teenager loves garbage tropes like that. Especially teenage girls who are kinky and like “spicy” romance where one party is being butalized
I’m seriously beginning to expect there’s a bot that instantly creates a new ATLA thread the instant one times out. No one could be obsessed and autistic enough to lurk here 24/7 and keep them going.
Say what you will about Zutarans, but at least they spawned one of the best and most unintentionally hilarious schizo comics of all time. The Cinemaphile dumps were comfy af.
It's a bit of a long story. Basically Zuko impregnates a 15 year old Katara while already married to Mai, so when Mai finds out she forces Katara to miscarry by secretly feeding her a poisoned orange. 3 years later Zuko finds out from a letter due to a clerical error, beats Mai and runs off to rejoin Katara. Mai then sends a bounty hunter to kill them and it all culminates in Katara using day bloodbending (this is pre-Korra mind you) to kill Mai.
You know in all of the schitzo rambling that goes on in that shitty comic, Mai does make a salient point. The Fire Nation just lost a century long war. They're in a state of rebuilding and Zuko is the Fire Lord, the symbol of the Fire Nation. They do not have time to deal with a scandal, especially a scandal that involves abandoning his wife to run off with a water bender girl he's been having an affair with.
I swear I did not make that up. Mai said this in How I Became Yours. The author thought about how that relationship made no sense and then made an active decision to do it anyway. And then of course Zuko beats his wife, tells her to frick off, and then he runs off to be with Katara. Zuko is one of the heroes in this story BTW :). Also Sokka gets to frick Azula.

Oh it never goes anywhere. I think the chick who wrote this shit realized she not only had to undo the ending to ALTA but also at least acknowledge what it looks like to other Fire Nation people for Zuko to just frick off one day. I was going to say that Mai is hilariously out of character because she hates Mai. But everyone is out of character so I don't think I can make that joke. Also none of that shit matters. Zuko, Aang, Sokka, Katara, Azula, and Toph spend an agonizing amount of pages on an island talking to and fricking each other. I think the only thing I was truly offended by is the fact she pulled Iroh into this shit.

Sort of reminds me of the Illusionist where the antagonist was the only one whoever cared for his nation and ended up killing himself because everyone is so preoccupied by a damn magician.
That was the most autistic post itt, which is really saying something considering the comic.
Tell me where you are so I can put your face into a toilet.
It used to be a funny point that the author ridiculously showed Katara blood bending in the daytime instead of only at the full moon, but thanks to Korra this is retroactively not impossible anymore.
>be Mai >genuinely love your husband and nation >learn that your husband secretly has a water tribe mistress who is pregnant >give katara an abortion and cover it up to avoid the baby being used as a political weapon >azula tries to blackmail you over it so you give her brain damage >Zuko eventually learns about the baby >try to plead with your husband that they should be focusing on having a legitimate heir and that she did it for him >he hits you and fricks off from his royal duties >OHSHIT.jpg >frick it and decide to hire your brother to kill katara and stop things from getting worse >die an agonizing death as you suffocate on your own blood
This comic is a horror story from Mai’s perspective
I don't even care about ATLA but this shit was a masterpiece, one of the best comedy storytimed on Cinemaphile.
Also still can't believe that Diaz fricking won with Bleach.
>this nonsense actualy turned me on to sokkazula
why tho? azula on how i became yours as far as I remember is just a discount yue with amnesia
she even ends up having white hair just like her kek
There was one particular artist, she made this. Latina. She just skewered How I became yours at every opportunity. Then she'd do late night streams of absolutely filthy hentai. I'll not forget the one where students kidnapped their teacher and gang raped her. Then they gave her an enema and she sprayed brown and turds all over the place. Revolting and I was beside myself with laughter.
I'm glad that people are acknowledging that Zutara does have an appeal instead if outright dismissing it like the old days it's because all the people who were kids back then grew up and entered online talking places and the people who were shitting on it got old
I'm still here and on rewatch kataang is still more interesting. Aang had to work his ass off to be anything besides a big eared little brother in Katara's eyes. Zuko already has handsome points and the similar age.
I briefly saw some of Avatar s3 when my sisters were watching and there was a sequence of episodes where Zuko has a bonding sequence with each member of the cast. And then he and Toph go out, and Toph is like "oh everyone else has gotten to hang out with you for an episode, I'm so excited to get to do it now" and then she gets blown off and screwed over.
What was that about? Toph is obviously best girl and it seemed cruel to me.
Yeah, it's been brought up before, but the writer of this shit has some pretty weird perspectives in making the protagonists a cheater and his mistress and basically acting like they're blameless for it. It's a weird comic. But it's also fricking hilarious.
why's firecest, elements trainer and how I became yours so low?
I thought these were supossed to be as in the lower they are, the more obscure it is, like an iceberg.
>zutara cope
Doesn't really cover it. It's a common social attack that women do when they see another woman that's seen/can be seen as being better by others.
Jin is one of those extremely rare examples of cute and sexy and does the first with low effort on her part. Katara (being the self insert) can be cute or sexy at times, but never both and never naturally.
Then you got to factor in both character's behavior. Jin is sincere with her feelings, pleasant disposition, and never thought to give Zuko shit at his fails on their date. Zukos reaction to this unicorn of a dirt grub needs no explanation.
Which is why le jin is ackshuly prostitute came about.
short version is >someone told Cinemaphile they'd leak Korra early is they trolled this one guy to death >Cinemaphile, apparently, did >leak was just a shitty cam rip anyway (also it was Korra)
>Bumi is zuko's son
I believe it's true, also I think that Katara have sex with Zuko in the end of season two and during her adventure alone with Zuko. >Suki left sokka by Zuko
I also believe it's true. Because even a toph's daughter looks like Zuko, so I assume that Zuko frick every woman near him.
Everything make sense when you remember how women act on real life around men like Zuko; rich, powerful social and political, beautiful, follow his instincts, no bullshit ideology, interesting stories about his life, etc.
Zuko only needs experience with women to become a Chad.
i forgot the name of it
but there was one about Azula joining Zuko in his banishment, and the whole story being about Iroh trying to capture the Avatar
pretty much just switching those two around and changing the relationship to incest last i recall it was dead after the ending of season 2
It's amazing how it's almost impossible to make Zutara work without fundamentally destroying the appeal of the characters and/or the series. Even Bryke tried to recreate Zutara with Makorra and that ended up with the exact same brand of trashfire.
you haven't read good fic. people rage about zutara all the time while ignoring how cringe and toxic maiko is. zutara isn't any worse than that.

Yeah but zukka fujos don't spam how it's canon and how it should have happened. They live off in their own world.
To be fair (IN TERMS OF AVATAR) the fujos don't get intense about how their gay ships should be canon, they like them, they make fanarts for them, but they don't go around complaining about how their ships have more "sense, chemistry or synergy" like the Zutara or the Incestoids Azula and Zuko
I never implied I dislike the ship, if I did then my mistake. I just said that as my own observation. I get the appeal and enjoy it to some extent or wouldn’t have bothered to read any fics if I didn’t. The point is that it’s difficult to find any that felt “natural” and not spiteful to some extent. What led me into reading the fics was some sense of nostalgia.
>What led me into reading the fics was some sense of nostalgia.
That's fair. God knows I've gone back to read some fics that I was absolutely fricking gaga for when I was in high school (like a decade and a half ago) and now can't help but look at as total trash. It's kind of just the weird experience of fanwork in general. But they still are going to have that nostalgic value regardless of that.

Yeah, this was what I was mainly trying to get at, thanks for voicing that. I’ve had my share with this, especially with the Percy Jackson fics. With Zutara specifically, I felt there was potential but the show just overall sucked at romance (a small part of myself wished the show avoided it all) and the ship itself is better off as fanon even if my 15 year old self would’ve vehemently argued otherwise. Looking back at the fics now, I just find the writing for most lazy or just all over the place.
>I have ignored these threads for several years because they're still saying the same damn things they were saying ten years ago and I want answers as to why people keep wanting to have the same argument over and over
Answer the questions.
If that were true we wouldn't still have Zutara cultists to this day. Zutarans live in a counter-factual reality by choice, and force the rest of us to be exposed to their delusions.
I will never forget the utter menace of Zutara spam on this board back when Avatar was airing.
Remember when she beat the strongest Firebender in the world under Sozin’s Comet which is a huge buff for Firebending and a huge nerf for Waterbending? HAHAHAHAHA what a shit cartoon
Katara literally interfered in the Agni Kai by standing in the arena but somehow all of the Fire Nation suddenly respected Zuko afterwards despite the fact he legitimately lost the battle. Strangest thing was there was no one loyal to Azula witnessing the fight and attempting to stop Katara from chaining Azula up afterwards.
But literally no one was watching the fight. How can anyone loyal to the Fire Nation fairly determine the outcome if no one from Azula's side is watching, including those who were about to crown her?
>Katara literally interfered in the Agni Kai by standing in the arena but somehow all of the Fire Nation suddenly respected Zuko afterwards despite the fact he legitimately lost the battle
I don't think aiming lightning at bystanders because you can't legitimately overpower your opponent is allowed by the rules.
Katara put herself inside the arena zone so it's her fault if Azula was freely able to aim at her. As far as bystanders would be concerned, she misaimed and Katara happened to be illegally in the way. Zuko didn't need to take the hit but he did and lost.

The Fire Nation seems to feel otherwise considering they immediately crowned Zuko. Azula presumably forfeited the Agni Kai by purposefully shooting at some rando who wasn't doing anything.
>But literally no one was watching the fight. How can anyone loyal to the Fire Nation fairly determine the outcome if no one from Azula's side is watching, including those who were about to crown her?
If she banished everybody who could watch, why would anyone want to support her claim? Especially when she's a raving schizo rolling around in the dirt?
>But literally no one was watching the fight. How can anyone loyal to the Fire Nation fairly determine the outcome if no one from Azula's side is watching, including those who were about to crown her?
If no one is watching, all they know is two firebenders went into the arena, and only one came out in any condition to be fire lord. Why would they think anything else?

Trying to make excuses for why anyone in the fire nation would want to help raving lunatic who alienated all potential supporters out of paranoia become fire lord?

How lucky it did happened. Otherwise wining would be impossible.

you getting nervous now?
>Literally interfered by standing in the arena
Iroh was "in the arena" too for the Zuko vs. Zhao bout, and was physically close enough to interfere in the fight when Zhao got pissy. Do you really think that, if Zhao had attempted to attack Iroh, he would be considered justified because Iroh was in the general vicinity? Both Iroh and Katara were very clearly noncombatants, and Azula attacked the noncombatant because she did not have faith that she could win a fair duel, and in doing so conceded the duel.
There's no moment where Katara really falls in love with Aang.
She just kisses him in the finale because the script says so. At most, she's giving him a pity frick because he saved the world
This ship gave me an intense hatred for ships. FRICK SHIPS and FRICK SHIPPERS. They're not human and more, they're fricking animals that run on emotions.
Frick arguing over what should have been or what counts as canon, tell me who YOU'RE favorite character was and why they're cool.
For me, it's Sokka. >Takes things seriously >Has to take control because no-one else can >A solid third of episodes would last 2-to-3 minutes if everyone listened to him from the start >Deals with pressure well >Strategic, tactical, and technical mastermind >Has the wit and the wile to school a knowledge spirit in style
how?
I guess it's because of the part where they show how Zuko and Katara (actors) barely had any scenes together and yet "they fell in love and now they are the best possible couple"
Just like it happened in the series but the zutara shippers refuse to see that
It's more their reaction to it. If the play stayed the same but they reacted differently, you could draw another conclusion. The fact that Katara and Zuko seemed bewildered and almost disgusted by the idea is what killed it.
I fricking wish
t. autist
What was even the appeal of Zutara? It just seemed like the standard prettiest girl + prettiest boy pairing that tweens like.
It's more that Kataang has almost no chemistry. She spends a huge amount of time freaking out about the kiss that never gets resolved and she's also almost too nurturing for Aang, who needs someone more like Toph who can poke him and get him to do stuff.
>She spends a huge amount of time freaking out about the kiss that never gets resolved
She was mad for like two seconds
It's a far cry from when he was stuttering just talking to her.
>kataang had no chemsiry
This lie keeps gettin repeated for some reason.
>autist doesn't know what a chemistry is
nah aang didn't want a gf he wanted a mommy.
I’m not saying it’s impossible to forgive someone after that, but it would clearly shine them in a different light and romantically isn’t it.
hell Zuki has more of a chance of happening than Zutara and even then Zuko burned her village down
It's the milquest of toast, no doubt. Twilight-level buffoonery.
Sokkatara is the real ship. Zuzula would be strong too, but Tyzula takes precedence. And this combination frees up the two characters needed for Zuki to happen, which also ultimately results in Taang. All the pieces fall into place.
Basically all the girls who watched the show back in the day self-inserted as Kataara and wanted the cool bad boy (Zuko) instead of Aang. That's it.
I self-inserted as Zuko and wanted cool bad girl (Azula) instead of Katara. Good thing I had twin sister to roleplay hunting avatar together.
Well that's just it. They sorta camouflaged their way in to the other shippers when the younger ones came along.
It's a better narrative.
>Girl from country most affected by the war clashes with then allys herself with the prince from country who is attacking hers in the first place.
>What even was the appeal it just seemed like standard (pairing) that (the shows demographic) like.
You don't say?
>good contrasting colors/designs
>water vs fire / moon vs sun shit
>self inserters who want to frick zuko
Fire x water + they had natural chemistry and even fought azula in the end together
It was always exactly that. Just women that never got over their tween crush on Zuko while they self-inserted as Katara.
Did you not watch the tv show?
Where they ended up in a more intimate relationship then Aang could ever hope to achieve?
Someone mentioned how they literally shared the same series climax of fighting Azula.
It wasn't romantic chemistry. Zutara was a crack ship that people took seriously because both of them were hot.
>similar age / attractiveness
>literal opposites attract
>Katara and Zuko are the number one candidates for self inserters while the other is the safest partner choice from the cast
Also Aang and Katara is such a weird choice for numerous reasons. It comes in so late it feels creepy. They established their relationship on completely different standards. Childhood friends turned lovers really only works if they were both prepubescent before.
You forgot the biggest reason of all
>enemies to lovers
People eat that shit up like a 5 star gourmet meal and will overlook a lot of downfalls and toxicity because that trope create so much spice that overshadows it all.
That is part of the opposite trope but yeah, especially women love that shit.
>watch romantic anime made for women
>the heroine is forced to live together with a handsome, rich, noble badboy
>constantly shits on him and complains about everything he does
>suddenly OH NO I'M IN LOVE WITH HIM
Aang's only crime is being a boring (note: I didn't say "bad") protag.
Still, anything is better than Korra.
>Consent
>In an asian setting where arranged marriages for the powerful is the norm and at least one king keeps a harem of concubines
Get your weaksauce western bullshit out of here. Katara ought to be honored that the Avatar is interested in her at all.
The sanest kaatang fan.
Confucius would agree with him.
He would also agree that Zuko deserved the burn for daring to speak against his dad.
But he didn't speak against his dad. His dad didn't even say anything.
Guess I didn't remember it correctly, it was a general instead of Ozai. But that doesn't really change my argument as the general was above Zuko in the hierarchy.
A general doesn't outrank the crown prince.
> But considering how much Katara seethed over Pakku and the Northern Water Tribe’s customs for women, along with her respect for Kanna, that won’t work for her.
Again, this presumes a westernized, modern morality wherein what a woman wants is considered relevant, which is not a thing which does or should exist in a premodern asian setting. What matters is that a powerful wants her and (sometimes) whether or not her father consents to the marriage.
>Again, this presumes a westernized, modern morality wherein what a woman wants is considered relevant, which is not a thing which does or should exist in a premodern asian setting
>This doesn’t have anything to do with how “based” their relationship is, Aang’s view towards her is basically like a reflection of what she hates. So I ask again, why should anyone give a shit about their romance?
Because it’s a story of her learning to get over herself and like it.
It’s funny how Yue was way less wrapped up in herself than Katara despite having way more justification to being, being the princess of a not-shithole water tribe.
Yeah it could definitely do with some improvements but I feel the basics of the idea are sound.
If the show really followed any of the premodern morality you're talking about then
Would have been the show's conclusion for Zuko instead of the redemption arc.
T.Seething Meng
>because of the bullshit Hero's Journey template seasoned writers just can't pry themselves from.
Aang crushes on her in the first episode
hence why women find it creepy
He should have demanded that she be gifted to him in marriage immediately upon being revealed as the avatar.
>It comes in so late it feels creepy.
It was at the forefront since the start of season 2, anon. You'd have to be delusional to think it anywhere close to a last minute decision, it was obvious from the start.
That's because this is exactly that, all the fans of this thing are women who want to have sex with Zuko.
No true. I'm a fan of it and I'm a man who wants to have sex with Katara.
>Zuni
Some horrific fusion of Bumi and Zuko
Kataras not even that attractive.
Come on, anon. Let’s not kid ourselves.
Enemies to lovers. Every teenager loves garbage tropes like that. Especially teenage girls who are kinky and like “spicy” romance where one party is being butalized
Daily reminder that most girls admit to having rape fantasies.
>
Ntr
I remember liking this aspect of their characters.
why are they sitting so close?
I’m seriously beginning to expect there’s a bot that instantly creates a new ATLA thread the instant one times out. No one could be obsessed and autistic enough to lurk here 24/7 and keep them going.
Where's the Katara cuck when you need him?
Zutara is forever. Like Hell.
Say what you will about Zutarans, but at least they spawned one of the best and most unintentionally hilarious schizo comics of all time. The Cinemaphile dumps were comfy af.
Love the effort that the creator put into this.
HIBY is an interesting case. So, so much of it is traced and yet there's so much of it that it still requires effort. What do you even call that?
Warped priorities?
kino
ahahahahahah wtf? Why is she killing mai?
It's a bit of a long story. Basically Zuko impregnates a 15 year old Katara while already married to Mai, so when Mai finds out she forces Katara to miscarry by secretly feeding her a poisoned orange. 3 years later Zuko finds out from a letter due to a clerical error, beats Mai and runs off to rejoin Katara. Mai then sends a bounty hunter to kill them and it all culminates in Katara using day bloodbending (this is pre-Korra mind you) to kill Mai.
wow
>Also Sokka gets to frick Azula
This is just pushing it.
Does it push harder than Aang fricking Toph? In the Avatar state too. Wait does that mean every Avatar fricked Toph?
>The Avatars run a train on Toph.
See?
Even in fanfiction she's a prostitute.
LOK fricking vindicated.
Avatar Yangchen is pure and would never be involved in that kind of depravity
Too bad. She's in for the ride.
Kavik would argue otherwise
It gets better. Azula gets perma amnesia and does a complete 180 on her usual personality. That's how her and Sokka get together.
What happened to Suki?
>Mai does make a salient point. The Fire Nation just lost a century long war. They're in a state of rebuilding and Zuko is the Fire Lord, the symbol of the Fire Nation. That sounds cool as frick. I would be more willing to read shipping nonsense if it delved into the political/greater ramifications of the relationship. Instead it’s typical Twilight writing.
You left out the part where Mai causes Katara to miscarry her out-of-wedlock affair baby, and Katara intentionally bloodbends her to death - in broad daylight - in retaliation.
It was already mentioned here
Only female writers generally to write prolonged romances, but only male writers are generally interested in the logical implications of a relationship. What you're asking for is a very rare combo.
>Only female writers generally to write prolonged romances
Also sometimes they write incredibly elaborate fix fic about side characters no one else gives a shit about
wtf
How would you like to read a several hundred page comic drawn by a former ATLA storyboarder about an amnesiac Zhao in the Northern Water tribe?
Wouldn't he notice immediately that he's a visibly different ethnicity than everyone else and start asking questions?
He did. Read the comic, it's what the avatar comics should have been.
Zhao Water Tribe
Huh, I was wondering why the art was so good.
If Zuko can blend into an Earthbending city with zero issues, I'm sure Zhao can assimilate just fine.
>If Zuko can blend into an Earthbending city with zero issues, I'm sure Zhao can assimilate just fine.
The Earth Kingdom is way more diverse. There are probably enough half-fire rape babies to constitute their own ethnic group by this point.
This. If anything Burn scars realistically should be way more common but we only see Song's leg and even then that's hidden from the public eye
>The Earth Kingdom is way more diverse. There are probably enough half-fire rape babies to constitute their own ethnic group by this point.
I'm surprised by how this aspect of the war is left aside in every story. I mean the South pole, the colonies and neutral places like kyoshi island should to be full with half firebenders after 100 years.
>Kya is biting her lips
You just know what she's imagining.
I don't think they were allowed to talk about rapebabies in a kid's show.
But genocide is okay?
Didn't happen, but it should've.
Sort of reminds me of the Illusionist where the antagonist was the only one whoever cared for his nation and ended up killing himself because everyone is so preoccupied by a damn magician.
I just realize now every time Katara bloodbends she's doing a Level 3 Team Super Combination Finish Attack with Yue.
That was the most autistic post itt, which is really saying something considering the comic.
Tell me where you are so I can put your face into a toilet.
Easter Island.
Good luck finding a toilet.
Doesn't that mean Yue is also helping Hama and Yakone?
>
It used to be a funny point that the author ridiculously showed Katara blood bending in the daytime instead of only at the full moon, but thanks to Korra this is retroactively not impossible anymore.
Lmao, what the absolute frick. Could not stop laughin
That's just overkill.
Frick, I’m absolutely dying.
Jesus stop it your gonna kill me.
>be Mai
>genuinely love your husband and nation
>learn that your husband secretly has a water tribe mistress who is pregnant
>give katara an abortion and cover it up to avoid the baby being used as a political weapon
>azula tries to blackmail you over it so you give her brain damage
>Zuko eventually learns about the baby
>try to plead with your husband that they should be focusing on having a legitimate heir and that she did it for him
>he hits you and fricks off from his royal duties
>OHSHIT.jpg
>frick it and decide to hire your brother to kill katara and stop things from getting worse
>die an agonizing death as you suffocate on your own blood
This comic is a horror story from Mai’s perspective
>hire your brother
>mfw we'll never get the sequel of his revenge
Wanananana
anyone got the picture of aang saying there's no escape?
I don't even care about ATLA but this shit was a masterpiece, one of the best comedy storytimed on Cinemaphile.
Also still can't believe that Diaz fricking won with Bleach.
This nonsense actually turned me on to Sokkazula. It's still nonsense but it appeals to me.
>this nonsense actualy turned me on to sokkazula
why tho? azula on how i became yours as far as I remember is just a discount yue with amnesia
she even ends up having white hair just like her kek
>You will never experience Cinemaphile at the height of ATLA's popularity because you were too young for the internet when you watched the show
It hurts bro. Now most of the online Avatar discussion is moron Redditors who watched the show on Netflix.
Things can always be worse anon, you remember that
I remember watching this from an online doodle board, and they were relentless and jovial at trolling this delicious trash.
I'll end the story. What happened to her? Homestuck.
that's why it was a great episode. that and Chad Beifong
Zutara has current chemistry unlike Kataang. Their relationship felt like Korrasami out of nowhere
Surely by now we can all agree that Bryke just wasn't good at writing believable romances.
Korrasami was bad for many more reasons than just coming out of nowhere
Ultra Instict Mai
It's fricking me up how "b***h you best believe it is Hammertime" wasn't the actual dialogue.
I'll be honest I totally forgot the original dialogue. It's always been hammertime for me except for the first time I saw this shit
WANANANANANA
>Not a fricking chance!!! I can't what until I see you up for a trial!!! Post on death row!!!
holy ESL kino
>"Random bullshit go!"
Also is Katara doing fricking Matrix flips? This is amazing.
Romance in Avatar is fricking stupid.
I'll never understand why this show had such a hardcore shipping community.
Fricking this
Literally all the canon ships are fricking awful and the majority of the fanon shippers are insane.
>killed zutara
zutara is unkillable and will still be around when all of us are dead
I'm glad that people are acknowledging that Zutara does have an appeal instead if outright dismissing it like the old days
it's because all the people who were kids back then grew up and entered online talking places and the people who were shitting on it got old
I understand the appeal, that doesn't mean I agree with it nor that Zutarans weren't mainly what made it annoying.
I'm still here and on rewatch kataang is still more interesting. Aang had to work his ass off to be anything besides a big eared little brother in Katara's eyes. Zuko already has handsome points and the similar age.
>>this episode killed Zutara forever
Good
Zuko was made for his Sister
Zuko was made for locking Azula in mental asylum and forgetting about her until she became useful.
That's just him trying to be a dom and fricking it up because he's Zuko.
It makes sense if you think about it as ATLA the Telenovela since the author is a latina.
Ignoring the obvious meme entries, how many of these atla theories are actually believable?
HIBY has no business being that deep on an iceburg. It's insanely well known at this point.
>the lower the tier, the more based takes
What did they mean by this? Also why is firecest so low.
why's firecest, elements trainer and how I became yours so low?
I thought these were supossed to be as in the lower they are, the more obscure it is, like an iceberg.
Icebergs are made by people who were too young to be there when those things were everywhere.
Makes sense, I've rarely ever seen any 'good' iceberg in my life.
>Jin was a prostitute
I'll never understand why people believe this one. Is it Zutara cope? Coomer brain?
Why is 'Bears' in the abbys of the iceberg
Sozin did nothing wrong
>Cinemaphile killed someone to leak Korra's first episode
Christ, haven't thought about that in years
anyone got the deets on this?
short version is
>someone told Cinemaphile they'd leak Korra early is they trolled this one guy to death
>Cinemaphile, apparently, did
>leak was just a shitty cam rip anyway (also it was Korra)
Imagine unironically killing yourself over some anons on an imageboard.
Stop reminding me how good with website was <2016. I'm getting sad.
The weak should fear the strong.
why's it tagging the guy's surname? anyone could go to the archives and spot these threads at any time i assume
Zuko only needs experience with women to become a Chad.
bump
It's time that people accept that Zuko and Katara were just friends and had no romantic feelings toward each other.
Suki is who Zuko needs
Enter Azula
basato
Anyone know any zucest fics that aren't just pure smut?
i forgot the name of it
but there was one about Azula joining Zuko in his banishment, and the whole story being about Iroh trying to capture the Avatar
pretty much just switching those two around and changing the relationship to incest
last i recall it was dead after the ending of season 2
Not explicit Zucest but its hinted at it.
a good one-shot
https://www.fanfiction.net/s/4924175/1/Combustion-Countdown
Anyone got any good Zuko/Jin, Zuko/Song, or Zuko/Yue ones?
actually killed every ship, now people sees aang as a weirdo who doesnt know when a ''no is no''
It's amazing how it's almost impossible to make Zutara work without fundamentally destroying the appeal of the characters and/or the series. Even Bryke tried to recreate Zutara with Makorra and that ended up with the exact same brand of trashfire.
It's honestly spectacular (and hilarious)
you haven't read good fic. people rage about zutara all the time while ignoring how cringe and toxic maiko is. zutara isn't any worse than that.
anyway you're all out of date because the new thing is to hate on zukka fujos. there are fujos RIGHT THERE and you aren't dabbing on them. so many opportunities to trigger fat teenage girls being missed.
>zukka fujos
I have seen this maybe once in my entire life. Mostly it's each of them separately paired with every female character. EVERY female character.
are you moronic or have you not been on the internet within the last decade? zukka is almost as prolific as zutara now, every fanspace is flooded in zukka content 24/7, and they did that in only a few years since voltron ended. i really expected more trolling to be going on and i'm disappointed in everyone.
I'm moronic because I don't frequent whatever gay shitholes you do? I see Zutara shit like this thread all the time. I see haremshit all the time. I don't doubt the yaoi audience exists, but as big as Zutara? Maybe in specific crowds, but overall? I doubt it.
AO3? Do you just browse Cinemaphile all fricking day reposting big booba edits? You can go search by category there and see for yourself dumbass. now they have the live actors acting life homosexuals on camera, literally, to get their hands on the fujobux.
they did and still do for klance so it's the same thing
>AO3? Do you just browse Cinemaphile all fricking day reposting big booba edits? You can go search by category there and see for yourself dumbass.
A search for both Zutara and Zukka yields 10x more results for Zutara in the past 5 years, you dumb histrionic homosexual.
Yeah but zukka fujos don't spam how it's canon and how it should have happened. They live off in their own world.
that is true, I've seen a raise of Zukka porn in these past 6 years
To be fair (IN TERMS OF AVATAR) the fujos don't get intense about how their gay ships should be canon, they like them, they make fanarts for them, but they don't go around complaining about how their ships have more "sense, chemistry or synergy" like the Zutara or the Incestoids Azula and Zuko
why does zucest out of all pairings lives rent free in your head anon?
I think I’ve only read like 2 or 3 Zutara fics where the characters felt the closest to the show and didn’t have any bashing.
what led you to reading a bevy of Zutara fics in the first place if you don't like the ship? No insult intended, I'm genuinely curious.
Anyone who has spent a long ass time looking at fanwork is gonna eventually realize that we were all willing to put up with way more bullshit back in high school. But they still are going to have that nostalgic value regardless of that.
>read some fics that I was absolutely fricking gaga for when I was in high school (like a decade and a half ago) and now can't help but look at as total trash. It's kind of just the weird experience of fanwork in general
Looking back at the fics now, I just find the writing for most lazy or just all over the place.
true
Zutara led to me being pretty big on Taang
end of an era..

Why are we arguing about ships from 16 years ago? What is actually getting discussed here that we haven't rehashed a hundred times?
Is talking about hypothetical people angry over ships the only real legacy of this show? Is it really just like Korra?
>I have entered a thread full of things I don't like and now I'm mad.
>I have ignored these threads for several years because they're still saying the same damn things they were saying ten years ago and I want answers as to why people keep wanting to have the same argument over and over
Answer the questions.
Zuko and Suki are the real OTP
Why did Suki’s eyes change from blue to green?
There are a lot of eye colour errors in ATLA comics
just finished watching avatar, I know i'm late
pretty good show though the lesbian korra ending was a little odd
If that were true we wouldn't still have Zutara cultists to this day. Zutarans live in a counter-factual reality by choice, and force the rest of us to be exposed to their delusions.
I will never forget the utter menace of Zutara spam on this board back when Avatar was airing.
>I will never forget the utter menace of Zutara spam on this board back when Avatar was airing
I wasn’t there for that but how bad was it exactly?
Remember when she beat the strongest Firebender in the world under Sozin’s Comet which is a huge buff for Firebending and a huge nerf for Waterbending? HAHAHAHAHA what a shit cartoon
Why Azula didn't just vaporize the chains like Roku did back in season one?
Katara literally interfered in the Agni Kai by standing in the arena but somehow all of the Fire Nation suddenly respected Zuko afterwards despite the fact he legitimately lost the battle. Strangest thing was there was no one loyal to Azula witnessing the fight and attempting to stop Katara from chaining Azula up afterwards.
That's because she banished literally everyone who would or could have done that.
But literally no one was watching the fight. How can anyone loyal to the Fire Nation fairly determine the outcome if no one from Azula's side is watching, including those who were about to crown her?
Katara put herself inside the arena zone so it's her fault if Azula was freely able to aim at her. As far as bystanders would be concerned, she misaimed and Katara happened to be illegally in the way. Zuko didn't need to take the hit but he did and lost.
>Katara literally interfered in the Agni Kai by standing in the arena but somehow all of the Fire Nation suddenly respected Zuko afterwards despite the fact he legitimately lost the battle
I don't think aiming lightning at bystanders because you can't legitimately overpower your opponent is allowed by the rules.
why are azulagays like this
like what? he do be making sense.
Trying to make excuses for why anyone in the fire nation would want to help raving lunatic who alienated all potential supporters out of paranoia become fire lord?
>raving lunatic who alienated all potential supporters out of paranoia become fire lord
How lucky it did happened. Otherwise wining would be impossible.
>how lucky it did happened
you getting nervous now?
>How lucky it did happened.
Skill issue.
Both Iroh and Katara were very clearly noncombatants, and Azula attacked the noncombatant because she did not have faith that she could win a fair duel, and in doing so conceded the duel.
you can't be serious
There's no moment where Katara really falls in love with Aang.
She just kisses him in the finale because the script says so. At most, she's giving him a pity frick because he saved the world
It’s up for the final time

I would pick Ursa
Did senor patata post these or is it a leak? because the resolution seems quite low compared to most of his work

Missed one
>choosing between hairy sister pussy or bald mothers pussy
i cant
This ship gave me an intense hatred for ships. FRICK SHIPS and FRICK SHIPPERS. They're not human and more, they're fricking animals that run on emotions.
Taang was best
Nickelodeon ruined Korra.
As did Bryke.
Frick arguing over what should have been or what counts as canon, tell me who YOU'RE favorite character was and why they're cool.
For me, it's Sokka.
>Takes things seriously
>Has to take control because no-one else can
>A solid third of episodes would last 2-to-3 minutes if everyone listened to him from the start
>Deals with pressure well
>Strategic, tactical, and technical mastermind
>Has the wit and the wile to school a knowledge spirit in style
>you peaked at middle school
