Bojack is a good show overall, but when it comes to the episodes that focus on politics it's really clear that the entire writing staff has never interacted with anyone outside of NY/LA. Hardcore pro-gun people in America absolutely love the idea of women being armed.

The direction this episode should have taken is that pro-gun activists have historically become uncomfortable when certain ethnic groups have guns, for example California has strict gun laws thanks in large part to Reagan freaking out about the Black Panthers. But if they did that, then well-off white/asian women who write for the show couldn't feel like victims.

Not only that, but many women ARE armed while the episode treats it as a bizarre idea that would turn the world upside down.

Gun control has a long history of being used against black people and latinos.

The social commentary on this show was always a little shaky. And I disagree with the conclusion here. Like realistically guns would be commercialized and become pink capitalism. Pink guns would sell for more and there would be female gun activists and crazy gun nuts would ride that wave of feminism to paint themselves as heroes defending women every time a school shooting happens.

American women have more abortion rights than 80% of Europe. Most countries there have stricter term limits.

Always found the argument that America of all places oppressed its women to be insane beyond belief.

Remember that these shows are being written by upper-class American women who have never left their own cities, let alone their own country. The equivalent would be if you locked a young man in a room where he's being fed nothing but Andrew Tate videos 24/7 for four years straight, and then you asked him to make a tv show that does social commentary about American society.

        Human rights are subjective.
Different women (and men) will always argue for different rights because rights are based on subjective desire based values of a culture.
Every single right you could have is mutually exclusive and comes at the cost of another right: "The right to bear arms" vs "The right to live in gun free society."

abortion has nothing to do with women its only about if you think a fetus is a person

Real talk: isn't this an issue worth dividing the country over?

          Or having a war over?

This seems to me like a big deal and why I don't really think the abortion debate is going to be solved simply.

If a fetus is a person, abortion is murder, and the United States has basically been carrying out child murder on an industrial scale for 60 years. That would be such a monstrous evil that I'm not even sure the country would deserve to continue existing, if that were true.

On the other hand, if a fetus is not a person, then denying a woman the ability to terminate a pregnancy essentially shackles her to the trouble of a life she doesn't want and denies her supposedly essential freedoms.

How do you fix this issue? The divide seems fundamental. How do you solve this issue without either a civil war or the country breaking up? You essentially have millions of people on both sides who have two fundamentally different views on one of the most important issues in all of existence. How do you make those factions coexist? Especially now that Roe has been overturned and there's open jockeying between them across the nation?

just make it legal until a certain point, like 2 months or so, or in extreme cases like children being raped and getting pregnant or feetus that are born with cancer that can pass unto the mother and shit like that.

Did you even read what he said, anon? "Just restrict it to x months" doesn't solve the issue because this isn't some moronic homosexualry about 'le women rights'. this whole debate is so easy to resolve
just ask yourself or others these two questions:
            1. is it wrong for a pregnant woman to smoke meth?
            2. if its wrong, why?

if they answer "no" to #1 then you are not talking to a human being but rather a demon

Because it supports the meth industry and can lead to a future meth addict or mental person.

No, this is the even worse soapbox episode from another season.

The abortion one is also terrible because it fails to exaggerate the pro-abortion thing to the point of absurdity (there are people who DO say abortion is great as much as that) and doesn't even touch the primary arguments against it which just leaves it as masturbation.

Some of the nation's harshest gun laws were made by the Patron Saint of conservatism Ronald Reagan when he was governor of California, because white people were afraid of the Black Panthers open carrying. So America hates black people more than it loves guns.

I’ve got ask, is there honestly any female celebrity this show ever dunked on? From what I remember, it was all praise, whacky antics, and maybe mild criticism but still portrayed as sympathetic.

    >women arguing about their right to abortion when the practice to avoid pregnancy is easier and continuously sanctioned to be safer by men as well
I was pro-choice before, but women don’t enter a “now or never” situation when dealing with pregnancy, they have birth control before and after the act, before a developing fetus even appears and they’re conscious enough to address it, even if it was rape or incest the measures to prevent it don’t require a primitive measure like abortion and even then very few will object.
They have 20 bailouts and all they have to do is remain attentive so they don’t have to worry about a deadline where their choice to not address it becomes a responsibility.

"pro choice" means women dont have to suffer consequences for their choices

Even if they get what they want it won’t stop them from complaining

It actually isn't the example of the show declining in writing. The first half of the show had some episodes dedicated to political topics but they were sort of self-contained. The real damage was done in the post MeToo era when the creator was deeply affected by Harvey Weinstein casually mentioned that he liked the show. His shame seeped into the writing and it as many people have pointed out, the show twisted itself in a pretzel trying to villanize Bojack more than necessary. It couldn't hide that the show became a vehicle for virtue signaling and Mea Culpas for creating a character like Bojack that people enjoyed to watch. I would have rather had a single post-election cringy Trump episode than the entire show going off the rails.

The fundamental disconnect between urban and rural areas, and especially the urban areas that the entertainment industry is in and everywhere else, are a major cause of the current "culture war".
People who have only ever lived in LA or San Francisco look around and see diversity everywhere, people of all races, all sexualities, and many gender identities. They see old media that has less of these things and actively work to add this stuff so that media better reflects what to them is the real world, fixing a perceived injustice.
On the flip side some random person in a small town in middle America will look around and see a 99% white population, they've never met a gay or transexual person in real life. They see all of these things in modern media and see it as some plot to change the real world to be more "diverse" and "progressive".

Despite the internet too many people are still trapped in cultural bubbles.

      >They see all of these things in modern media and see it as some plot to change the real world to be more "diverse" and "progressive".

You used the word plot but you meant conspiracy theory. It is quite literally their mission statement.

        that's the same thing

You're looking at this through a fundamental misunderstanding of their perspective.
They arent seeing where you live and thinking "oh this place should be more diverse! Let's change it so that it is!"
They are seeing where they live and thinking "media isn't reflecting how diverse the world is, we need to change it so it does!"

They actually are thinking that though

That's quite literally what is happening. Nice try though.
