My memory is that there are various asymmetric information games prior to the final split and steal where the penalty for deviating from Pareto (win-win) outcomes is being voted off the show by the other contestants. Of course in the final the deviation penalty would be public derision, but snakes don't care about that.
Which is the issue in a nutshell, and so the entertainment of the show, there are always complete snakes who manipulate their way through the rounds and then knife their competitor. Iirc the woman here did already knife this man, and then sobbed and apologised. Him being a giga-cuck white knight forgave her. Then she did it again in the final, hilarious.
