Was he insane or just stupid?

Both
He was female brained. That's why he couldn't stop screaming, bossing everyone around and unable to assess and act accordingly in a level headed manner during a dangerous situation. I bet he didn't even see any action in the field like you see in the second half. homosexual character.

Why is such a highly decorated man in a lowly drill sergeant role?
Shouldnt he at least be in an advisory role on tactics at the front.
I bet he did something stupid and this was his punishment. No wonder he's so angry all the time.
Being a drill instructor is basically the Marie Corps equivalent of going to an Ivy League school. It sets you up for success for the rest of your career. Once your three years on the drill field are up, you get first dibs on all the cool assignments and preferential treatment during promotion boards.
t. Marine vet
He was insanely overqualified to be a drill instructor and his medals speak for it. That being said he was not equipped for a situation like that because the words to defuse it weren’t in his vocabulary.
SQUEEZE IT homie
EY EY WAT CHU SAYIN' homie??
He died as he lived.
But he tried the other way first.
he was based.
if he cucked down to a private the shame would be enough to drive him to suicide. he was a man with an unshakable code of conduct forged by fire and tempered by years of anger
>dying is based actually!
Cool, I look forward to seeing you do something based.
The real question is why he didnt run back to his hut to get the 45 he kept in his desk
He lived in a hut?
DI hut for you neverserved
Naw he knew he fricked up as soon as he walked in there and saw dude holding the gun and smiling maniacally. His only hope was to try to scare him out of it so he went into his routine. That's my interpretation of it.
test
You got banned, huh?
nah
Well no one would be dumb enough to admit to it.
He decided to die as a man rather than live like a b***h. You wouldn't understand.
>Didn't pick up that this 80IQ midwit was mindbroken and posed a threat to the rest of the unit
>Get plugged by an overweight moron cause of it
>Bleed out on a filthy bathroom floor
>"He decided to die as a man"
lol lmao whatever you say bro
what your Black person pea brain might not realize is that Ermey was an actual drill instructor and this is a concocted scenario Kubrick dreamed up to kill his character and never actually happened in reality. I'm pretty sure in actuality Pyle wouldn't even be able to access the ammo.
He shouldn’t have yelled. He should have listened. That’s what no one else did.
Drill sergeant's entire job is to break people mentally and physically and condition them into losing their individuality and becoming part of a group that follows the orders of their superiors.
Drill instructors primarily use intimidation to get you to follow instruction. They do not ask you, they do not console you, they do not bargain with you. They only know how to break you.
He did what he knew, he used intimidation against a mentally unstable man. The entire scene is meant to show how fricked up the entire concept of building a soldier really is, how dehumanizing it is.
Lol out of shape incel Zoomers that never played sports that would never serve in God's Glorious Corps have opinions.
