This guy is an idiot

Why would he announce the reboot of the DCU before the movies (Shazam, Flash, Blue Beetle, Aquaman) hit theaters?

Superman Legacy is planned to be released in 2 years (11th July, 2025), and that's meant to be the lead-in into nuDCU.

2 whole years.

Now no one gives a shit about these pre-reboot universes and Warner is bleeding money and risking another bankruptcy and buy-out.

what if the true problem is with the DC characters themselves?

It isn’t. It’s extremely clearly with Warner Brothers. This is not to say disney would be better, they’d be worse. Really no owner would be better. But Warner doesn’t like the fact that many of the characters are straight and white and bumping up against public domain. So it’s gone full moron on diversity and bait and spite and misery porn and alternatives to hold on to the IP in perpetuity.

Because the fricking Flash movie should be released in 2020. Now is too late to care.

Because those movies are getting done and dumped. It happens all the time. Sometimes a movie is either shelved or shoved out to get back some of the money spent on it.

Yes, but he should've waited with the reboot announcement until the movies had come out. That way they would make more money and the company wouldn't suffer financially.

The moment the Rock was fired and Gunn got the keys to the Castle he fired Cavill and announced that he'd reboot the Universe.

If Gunn had shut his mouth for 1 year, it would've worked out so much better.

And he would still had 1 year and 6 months to build up report before before his Superman movie came out.

You make it sound like Gunn was allowed to keep quiet about it for that long. WB is a huge company. They want to move on and let people know. Flash has been mostly done for a while, it had to go out. Same with Aquaman when they finally release it. Blue Beetle might be made standalone so that it can fit with Gunn's new universe later.

        >Yes, but he should've waited with the reboot announcement until the movies had come out.

We don't know if it was Gunn himself who decided to do it, or Zaslav and others at WB requesting they do it to make WB look good.

Remember that one of the rumors going around is that Zaslav's intent is that he wants to sell off WB

He also said The Flash resets the DCU so supposedly we are already in the nuDCU. Which is even worse to me because it means it won't be a full reboot, they'll just pick and choose what they want to keep and throw away. Peacemaker S2 is coming after Superman Legacy, so I guess all of the Peacemaker adjacent characters carry over.

What I would say is that he said what he was going to do because the studio announced that he had been put in charge, people wanted to know what he was doing to do, and IIRC, there was a stockholder meeting where these plans were shared, and as opposed to it being reported second hand from a source viewing the meeting, they decided to put cards on the table.
If I were going to call him an idiot for anything, it would be because of the choice to continue the DCEU, as opposed to an altogether new canon where he could make a point to include dialogue conveying that certain things from the DCEU happened in this universe too, making them pseudo canon, and allowing him to bring back characters or actors, or continue plots from TSS, or Peacemaker if he wants to, without unnecessarily burdening himself with the full albatross that comes with the DCEU.
Secondarily, If anyone was the idiot, I think it could be argued that it was WB, for confirming his hiring before these movies were released, because once that cat was out of the bag, that immediately meant Snyder was not coming back in a similar or significant capacity, which meant that people were going to seethe on behalf of their guy.
Yes, WB is a house on fire right now. They needed to do something to turn a corner, as best as they were able. If they were willing to eat Batgirl as a tax write off, why not do it with other projects? If Flash doesn't even make back it's budget, they prob should have killed it too. WB is supposedly saying Aquaman 2 is unwatchable. Why not that too? They are already skunked at this point. If they make themselves stink worse on behalf of strengthening the books, unironically make the butcher executive "A Dark Knight" before tossing them out the water tower with a golden parachute, then give themselves a clean cut to make clear that there is pre-Gunn, and it isn't connected to this new Gunn era. It wouldn't be pretty, but it might not be as ugly as it seems right now.

There was no way they were going to kill the Flash film, because not only did Pre-Zaslav people sink a lot of money into it, they already had contracts locked in with movie theaters and licensors. If they threw it in the vault like they did Batgirl they may have ended up with multiple lawsuits on their hands for breach of contract. People in Hollywood can't do anything about a movie of theirs that gets shelved as they got paid for the work, but licensors expect to be able to sell stuff that they made to tie-in to films because they expect the money to come in when retailers order their stuff

Batgirl was an HBO Max movie that WB started to wonder if it could be upgraded for theatrical before Zaslav took over. There wasn't as much thought to tie-ins and shit and they hadn't signed with theaters yet so that could be easily sacrificed.

It's unknown how many contracts Aquaman 2 has locked down but I assume they probably had some if they're intent on releasing it despite its problems

Batgirl wasn't thrown into a vault, they destroyed/erased everything. Those working on it wanted to copy their work on it so they could do a snyder-style call out later but WB tech guys beat them to it to prevent any legal issues with the tax write-off

    >Hurr durr I'm not gonna watch this movie I think looks cool because it won't lead to another movie
No one thinks like this aside from some really moronic capegays. If these movies have underperformed its because they looked like shit.
The only ones with a true excuse to underperform were WW84 and TSS (who also had to fight the R rating, lesser known characters, and negative stigma from its predecessor), since they were released during Covid.

Audiences can pass a mediocre blockbuster movie if they feel they're gonna be rewarded by it in the long run of the series, like Thor 2 for example, that achieved its goal of moving the story arc forward despite not being remembered fondly. A sense of progression and world building it's one of the benefits of a cinematic universe, a long time reward. The DCEU had none of that after Justice League, not only the tone completely changed and became run of the mill superhero schlock but every movie felt like it lived in isolation except for cheap cameos, nothing was being told in the long run therefore audiences had no incentive to not skip what looked bland and just wait for them to end up in steaming.

Shazam 2 definitely was affected by the Gunn announcement because there's no way it would perform that badly on its own when the first one was that well received.

People fail to understand that he knew these movies were mediocre shit, he knew that there's no tricking audiences since the DC brand was damaged already. Might as well announce that there's going to be better things in the horizon and power through the duds until Joker 2 and the first Gunn/Safran project lands on screen.

Also are people here actually that stupid to think that someone from Hollywood actually believes all the projects they promote are good? They need to back every project because the same producers and financiers will be involved in the future and they don't want to see you shit-talk a bad investment.
