Doctor Sleep? More like Fall Asleep

I thought it was surprisingly decent. Not great or anything, but better than it should have been. Of all the "legacy" sequels to crop up in the wake of Kingdom of the Crystal Skull it was one of the best despite being the least promising.

Agreed. Definitely one of the best Stephen King adaptations in a long time.

I thought it was really good but slowly turned into clap bait.

It was okay. The big problem was that it wasn't sure if it wanted to be a sequel to the Kubrick version or the book. The lookalike actors that they got did a pretty good job though

Agreed, Lloyd the bartender was convincing in that light. Weak pour though. And Danny unlocking his starving demons was great

I was surprised how they kept with the scene where the villains torture an 11 year to death, I kept expecting them to cut away and leave the rest implied but they kept at that sucker.

Thought it was one of the best I've seen in awhile. Actual stakes with threatening villains. No out of place comedy that deflates the whole thing.

How were they “threatening” in any way. The first time the little Black girl interacts with the main antagonist she overpowers her. Yeah, the supporting cast is in trouble but the main character isn’t in any danger.

She lays a trap because she knows they are coming and the villain doesn't expect it. That's the protagonists acknowledging the threat and taking reasonable steps to not die. That doesn't mean the villains aren't threatening. Most modern villains are constantly made the butt of jokes by the main characters left and right. There's never a single moment where anyone seems to take the threat remotely seriously.

Weren’t the bad guys like 100’s of years old and get completely logged by a 13 yo. Come on that’s moronic.

            >Completely
She's a psychic powerhouse but still a little kid. Most of the story directly deals with adults trying to keep her out of harm way.

i liked it because it was played straight and the story wasn't put aside for horror movie cliches, they didn't make this into an American Psycho 2 situation. seeing Ewan Ewan McGregor do an American accent is so fricking weird though, constantly threw me off after seeing him play Obi-Wan so much. i have a similar problem with Matt Smith from Doctor Who playing Americans.

It honestly bordered more on good old fashioned Urban Fantasy than horror.

i think the other problem is what is horror? this is a horror movie but it didn't have a bunch of jumpscares or anything. in that respect i still think Doctor Sleep qualifies as horror.

a sequel to a classic horror shouldn't be that good

Honestly "It shouldn't be that good" is my main opinion of hte movie. I have plenty of complaints, minor and small, but as a whole it's still a very pleasant surprise of a movie that genuinly took me aback even knowing it got reasonably positive reviews.

Yeah, they were old and complacent. They were giddy because they thought they stumbled upon a fountain of youth. They weren't expecting the girl to be as tapped into her power as she was and they weren't expecting her to know they were coming and have set up precautions. Once they knew what she's capable of, they capture her pretty easily.

Don’t you think it’s a bit stupid to have some kid be as powerful as old beings? Sorry, it’s childish writing. The clinic of the food is a 2 v 1 of an enemy you’ve already shown can be beaten. Literal homosexual script.

But that's part of the whole story. It's not muscle strength.
They always go after children since they have the purest strongest power.

Powerful child psychics have been a trope pretty much forever. They've been an even bigger trope specifically within King books. I don't have an issue with it.

I liked it. I watched the director's cut. I had low expectations because all my favorite reviewers said it was bad. I'd say this movie is underrated. It wasn't afraid to kill off likeable characters or kids. No kids died in The Shining, so this movie is more edgy than the prequel.

It`s actually pretty good. Coomer motivations aside Rebecca Ferguson`s Rose the hat worked great as a villain and the pacing and way to build up tension actually match King`s writing style. From the many adaptations of his work this is one of the few ones that does.

The child torture scene was actually pretty brutal and I'm surprised it made the final cut.

fun fact, the director wanted the scene to be as realistic as possible so he swapped the prop knife with a real one without telling anyone

i think it helps that it's really not a sequel until the very end, the other 80% it's telling its own story with its own characters.

The problem is that most of the people here don’t care about some flop from 5 years ago and the contrarian gays in here will try and convince you it’s good. It didn’t even meet most people’s already low expectations.

It takes a serious lack of self awareness to put a shitty blue filter over everything when you're making a (sort of) sequel to a Stanley Kubrick film, a guy who was known for his visuals. How dense and incompetent can you be?
