    >blue
    >comical relief who also drives the plot forward
    >first line of dialog in the show is a Flintstones reference
Boy, I wonder who this character is based on

Such a weird thing, he even transforms into caricatures as well. Like how was this pitched in the show bible? "A show about a boy and his pet newt... who is the genie from Aladdin."

The intro is amazing wtf are you talking about? Also the Pilot for the show was more interesting.

Ned's Newt was good though. If they used it on a better show it would explode.

Nah, the show was good, but like Room 402 and What's with Andy, it was fated to die.

I loved the Genie from Aladdin so of course I liked this cartoon as a kid

Oh was the Newt gonna talk in stock audio like Bumblebee? Better than just being the genie I suppose.

      >Oh was the Newt gonna talk in stock audio like Bumblebee?

Yes, but to clear all the audio clips that would’ve been used as dialogue would’ve cost more than the producers were willing to pay (talking millions of dollars), so they went with an impressionist instead.

Makes sense, and I guess you really needed him to transform into different shapes and costumes to go along with the impressions, so he gradually became more and more like the Genie even if that wasn't the original intent.

        Interesting!

This is the ultimate "I reached a point where cartoons went so downhill, I literally have nothing else to watch" cartoon. When anime killed my interest in cartoons for like a decade.

Oh boy, if I'd only known I was wasting my fricking time with anime.

When an anon wrote to Andrew Nicholls, one of the head writers and exec producers of the show

Yeah you could tell from the scripts they were getting a lot of unusual stuff through unchallenged. I remember the last time I watched an episode I noticed there was a direct reference to Topo Gigio in there, of all the fricking things.

      >Andrew Nicholls
I recommend reading his book "Valuable Lessons: How I Made (And Lost) Millions Writing For Over A Hundred Shows and Series." He talks about the challenges of his writing career in an industry where corporate interference always gets in the way. He goes into detail on shows he's worked on like Ned's Newt, Jimmy Neutron, Pelswick, and W.I.T.C.H. to show just how completely moronic TV executives can get.

I remember there being a character that did nothing but lick on random bridges throughout the city
I think he even had an entire episode about him

Frickin kek, I remember him. He had his own theme song too.

I vaguely remember him turning into Marilyn Monroe at some point in one of the early ones.

Ah, I have fond memories watching this on Teletoon.
I remember the intro featured Ned in a different colored shirt, I assume the opening used clips from the pilot maybe?
I haven't watched it in years, but I would wager it holds up fairly well.
Reminds me of TTA/Animanics a little, with all the pop culture refs the newt drops.

      Possible Dolly Parton ref?

Did David Feiss work on this? Some of the newt's expressions remind me of Cow and Chicken

No, he had no involvement whatsoever.
