I disagree. You’re saying 9.5/10 technical visuals aren’t as impressive as a 10/10.
I get what you are saying but this movie pioneered the tecniques that Pinocchio perfected, so give it props for that.
Also, if you are going to watch this or Pinocchio, get a Domesday rip of the Laserdisc since those have the least alterations.

Most Disney movies get altered after the fact. Hell, even movies like Lilo and Stitch get censored on home release for ridiculous reasons.

Huh, that does look pretty bad. Do you happen to know where online might one find the earlier versions?
Some of the DVDs have lower bitrate, but contain the grain and detail.
What I'm saying though is where online can you find a rip of that specifically? A quick look through the normal torrent sites showed the earliest file being a 2003 DVD xVid, nothing for the 1999 DVD and especially not the laserdisc. If people care about preserving these versions surely the files exist somewhere online, correct?
Go to Laserdisc Databases, if you want Anime LD for either Video or Audio use nyaa dot si and every release of Seed of Might or what they reccomend, they even have an uncompressed Stereo Audio from Akira's LD that better reflects the Original Run in theaters audio of the Film.
Thanks, lddb seems to just have info and a marketplace though, I'm not really interested in starting a laserdisc collection, I just want to see what that version looks like.

Kind of, yeah. They had to take out a loan, so you could quite surely describe it as an all-in gamble. Disney was obviously already well known by the mid 30s, but people very reasonably had doubts that they could do it for an entire 1:20 hours. But the movie being a success story is very nice. Even looking past how lavish/ambitious the animation and music is for the time, I think it still stands as one of the most solid and well-executed movies of the 30s.
Holy frick, if I were the animators I would be pissed this got cut, so much work and talent unused. I've never seen fully animated deleted scenes like this in any other animated movie, I guess they learned their lesson.
There's more animation that went unused in the final version.
There's also cut content that didn't get animated but exist in art none the less
The impressive feat is the fact that it exists in the first place. It was made to prove that you can make a feature length cartoon. Not keeping it to 8 minute shorts and singalongs.

I like that the first 5 feature-films by Disney are all in the library of congress. The golden age is my favorite era.
