When the ocean recedes like that you have less than an hour before the wave hits, more like 15 minutes or less. The 2004 tsunami made it about 2 miles inland in the worst places so running or driving would be an option and better than sitting on the beach. The question would be when do you stop running and try to climb or take cover, or keep trying to run to get more distance but risk being washed away at ground level.
