This is better than every other Godzilla film that isn't 54, Shin, Minus One, and 2014/KOTM.
Everything else is painful to watch. The worst acting, worst excuse of a plot, characters you couldn't name on the spot and autistic Japanese sci fi.
The kaiju action doesn't make them worthy of being objectively watchable films.
They're dumb flicks you skip through.

Agreed. The marketing heavily implied that Bryan Cranston would've been a big part of the movie, of not the MC himself. Only to die fifteen minutes in. Also who the frick thought about casting Juliette Binoche only to make her die in the prologue 3 minutes in the movie was a good idea?
Its a lot worse after you watch Monsters by Edwards. He recycled a lot of elements for the MUTO design in Godzilla

I was born in 91 and this was my introduction to Godzilla so I enjoyed it then and am nostalgic for it and its merchandise now. I like to watch the marketing cartoon with my 2yo
