Tony has a compelling premise as a character trying to make up for his past as an arms dealer who also has a knack for experimental technology and pushing the limits of what he can do. He has so many different types of stories you could tell, like corporate espionage, geopolitics, AI/transformative new technology, or just a good old-fashioned story about him being a billionaire in a power armor that gets with models and fights other guys in power armor. This guy should have been the EASIEST IP (outside of Spider-Man) for Marvel to promote and sell, even before the MCU push, as he arguably has more potential appeal than most characters. And yet, we only ever get le alcoholic frickup who's broke or Iron Fascist/authoritarian punching bag.

Maybe Marvel should bring in some former STEM writers and see if they can bring any degree of belivability to marvel science

It's getting closer to 20-25 years. And a lot of them were writers Marvel considered as some of their top-tier guys. Extremis was basically Patient Zero for Iron Man getting a writer who can't stop being a lefty long enough to stop himself from sperging out all over the story about how bad it is that the protagonist of Iron Man is a rich white genius man. They keep getting people to write Iron Man who refuse to just do the job of writing Iron Man, they want to tear him down because he's everything they hate in real life. We need editors who can tard wrangle writers again.
