All style no substance, basically a music video with shitty acting and plot.
Done absolutely nothing new and will be forgotten by next week.

idk the hate boner people have for this movie? what did it do rape your fricking mother? or are you just mad the ugly twink has a bigger dick than you?
I haven't seen a legitimate criticism about this movie besides that its predictable or not as CRAZY as someone who recommended it said

      >style over substance

      >Muh recycle class satire
      >whole thing is just a music video not a well directed film

It's an Americanized version of Pasolini's Teorema. The twist is stupid, but otherwise it's not terrible for what it is.

It felt like a wannabe uk version of parasite with a Muh dark twist.

        >It felt like a wannabe uk version of parasite

That's what it is, lol. Some anon tried to say it isn't, but it's just Parasite.

That scene was extremely forced trying to imply the in denial British nature, yes I got what it was getting at but just so unrealistic

        >just so unrealistic

I don't know about that, because other movies portray the British similarly. Have you seen The King? There's a scene where Timothee is shouting and giving a rousing speech and all the soldiers are just silent. I think it's accurate.

          Anonymous

I have seen the king and yes it was trying to show the up tight in denial British family but as I said was too forced to execute its point. Hardly groundbreaking filmmaking even if it did the scene well. Yeah just parasite , also Barry broke his scouser accent multiple times so I couldn’t take him seriously.

        >Muh recycle class satire
it barely has anything to say about class besides that the rich have it a little easier. the rich people are shown as just incompetent as everyone else. Even the MC lives a cozy middle class life. It's not b***hing about class.
        >shit acting and unoriginal plot
who was shit at acting in this movie?
you know theres only like 30 plots in stories right? show me an original plot in the past 5 years
        >style over substance

I enjoyed it a lot considering it had next to no plot, I was hoping it would turn into an Argento style film by then end. The twist felt very lazy but it didn’t detract from the film very much because there was so little going on plot wise. Too many music video scenes is my biggest complaint.

You're right about everything, OP, except that the movie is still good despite your criticism. It's beautiful to look at and entertaining. I understand being annoyed because this type of movies attracts psueds pretending like they 'get it', but you're being a psued yourself by resorting to hyperbole just because you recognize it has no depth.

      >It's beautiful to look at and entertaining

I'm not sure what else people want from a movie. If I'm going to watch some shit for two hours then it has to look good, and also be interesting, which is what this movie is. I've never seen a school like the one in this movie, or been inside a manor.
I watch movies for this exact reason: To see stuff I'd never be able to in real life.

    >female director/writer who is a nepo baby
Of course it's trash. And this is not to say that there aren't good female directors working currently. For example, Marielle Heller is a good female director, and I like most of Bigelowes work. But they're more the exception than the rule

The real issue is that there are no really great film directors of any kind working today, male or female. I haven't seen an American movie in the last 5 years where I left the theater thinking to myself 'that director is special'.
