This is kino of the highest order. Already know the second season will be a let down compared to this one (?).

Love these two fellas and their strong bond born from their common hardships.

Just pretend the second season doesn't exist. It has absolutely nothing in common with season one.

should I skip it altogether? Is it maybe just a different breed of kino? Or will I feel like True Detective season 1-season 2?

There is absolutely nothing kino about it. It's boring and the acting is local theatre tier.

Dear god no, the story is idiotic and the characters are insufferable. You'll wish they'll all die but absolutely none of the ones you want to will.
        > Or will I feel like True Detective season 1-season 2?
A better comparison is Blair Witch 2 to Blair Witch Project.

Skip it, it's a Grudge rip off at best, and plain annoying at its worst. Isn't scary because it spends too much time humanizing the angy ghost and taking away all the mystery of what it was, and after the first episode it doesn't even feel like they were trying to make a horror.
It literally had George Takei doing the "Oh my" thing at the end.

The second season having frick all to do with the first is forgiveable since it's supposed to be an anthology and S1 had a pretty definitive ending.

What chapped my ass is that they saw what worked in season 1 and did none of it. Changed showrunners, hired a bunch of Hollywood writers to come up with a story instead of finding another quality book to adapt, and used that as an opportunity to get political, emphasize diversity, try to connect it to contemporary issues blah blah blah whereas the first series gave no fricks about any of that and was just trying to tell the best story it could. Basically, they took a series that was unique in style, tone and setting and turned it into the same shit they always make because it's all they know how to make now. It's a miracle season 1 turned out the way it did

the title actually made sense for the 1st season as well since it was the name of one of the ships

best scene. My gf keeps belittling me because I get "emotional" during such scenes of brotherhood between men and keeps telling me I have daddy issues. She just can't understand.

I watched this with my girlfriend recently. She was emotional at a few different points towards the end but the scene that got her the most was the older guy that gave the younger one books collapsing and dying. I thought that was one of the less fleshed out storylines through the show, she didn't even react to 'are we brothers?'.

I really have no idea what women think bros...

      >the scene that got her the most was the older guy that gave the younger one books collapsing and dying.

That's a scene about parenting, the old caring for the young, women understand that. They can perceive themselves as mothers or children and can relate to it in terms of them being in those positions and seeing analogues to their own parents.

      >she didn't even react to 'are we brothers?'.

That's a scene about camaraderie and honor. Women don't understand that. A good woman would die for her children but not for a friend or comrade its simply not their role.

I think the fading of him between walking and being on the ground was him losing his mind and not being able to piece together a continuous memory of events. He just gave up.

Any boatkino coming these days or in the near future? We had The North Water a bit after The Terror, which wasn't exactly on the same levels of camaraderie/sovl, but still had quite a survivalist and grim atmosphere in it to compensate.

No and we probably wont get anything like it ever again. Boatkino in general is rare and having a 95% white male cast is basically illegal now.

I was surprised to see that thw author of this was the same that wrote Hyperion. On the third book now, people say to stop after Fall of Hyperion but i want to know whats so bad about then, then im ganna read The Terror because anons said it delved more into wtf the monster was

i, too, was surprised by this. the book has a lot more mysticism involved compared to the show, which like you said, delves more into about the monster. honestly, both the show and book are equally good.

Yeah im excited to get to it because i like stories with mysticism or religious undertones even if its for a made up religion. Stories just feel better when its about people involved with shit they can't even really comprehend but have to deal with.
