It's a great friend simulator. Really feels like hanging out with your friends and telling stories at a bar. As an incel though it's depressing how Ted has a new girlfriend every episode.
When I first watched this as teenager I was like Haha Ted's silly haha. Now Im the same age as Ted in Season 1 and it hits completely different.
Ted is such a loser, Marshall is funny but ultimately a Lily simp, but Barney is still based and hilarious pilled.

Excellent show ruined by the final season being totally underwhelming (except shocker: the one episode centered around "THE MOTHER") The finale is literally one of the worst episodes of TV ever. So bad that it retroactively made the entire show have no rewatch value. That finale must have cost these guys millions in reruns/syndication because it gave the whole rest of the show a sour metallic taste like a saltine that has gone bad.
Its not that bad. I rewatched it recently and sure the ending was bad decision but rest of the show is perfectly rewatchable.

Its an ending so bizarre that cannot even be called "bad." That was legitimacy absurd, on a parody-post ironic way. Like on, "lets make the worst possible ending we cant think of" they ruined the ethos, the concept of the entire show in the last 2 minutes. Its still amazing not a single producer or actor stood up to the showrunners and stopped it
People stopped caring soon because its a comedy, but the ending of HIYYM is easily the worst finale in the history of television. Nothing ever comes even close

They had to make it that Ted is telling the story as justification to go after "Aunt Robin" which is the narrative frame of the show. They tried to do a heartwarming montage like the opening of Up to make you feel nostalgic for the mother. They also gave the mother an entire season of focus before the finale where she had seperate endearing life changing adventures with each of the main characters. They tried, but I agree it didn't work. I like how unpolitically correct the early season jokes are. I feel like the showrunners made How I Met Your Father in an attempt to apologize and redeem themselves to Hollywood to show how not problematic they are.

This could have work if they had ended the show by S2-3. Its clear that the showrunners came with the finale idea since the beginning and never tool a second to realize how different is the show after 9 freaking seasons.
