I don't know what it is about it in particular, but the montage segment towards the end really takes me out of the movie. It feels like it was never supposed to be a montage, but either the editor was pressed for time, or the studio wanted the runtime cut down. It feels like a chunk of the story is missing.
>It feels like a chunk of the story is missing.
I love Tombstone, but it really does. The third act rubberbands and then rushes to the ending like it's late for work.
this
All of the good westerns were made before 1980, everything after that is revisionist trash. Tombstone is a cheesy 90s action flick dressed up as a western, and not much else
incredibly overrated "western" that's lauded for "deconstructing the western" the way The Long Goodbye "deconstructed film noir." In other words, abject trash for pseudo intellectual film school types, not for real western fans
I kinda agree. Went into it with quite high expectations and it felt weirdly disjointed. Haven't seen the director's cut, but interested to see if it fixes some of the issues.
...it's a movie, yes.
It's not the greatest, but does have high points. It was way less about being a western, and way more about being edgy and up to date.
Hollyweird had run out of ideas (per the usual), so went back to docudrama "westerns" for a while. All of them way worse than Thumbstone.
It's just not an interesting movie, really.
Great actors, with good acting, yes.
>How the frick could be a fricking 90s western "up to date"
the original western shows were kinda goofy, and then the movies they inspired were more fantasy than reality. in the 90s the industry tried to promote 'real' westerns with 'real western this' and 'real western that'. back to the future 3 makes fun of it if you want an example of what i mean.
idk what it is about Kurt Russell but I just can't take him seriously as a "badass" in any movie
He has too much of a harmless good guy face honestly
I cringed hard at that scene where he screams something about being a pale rider or some shit
Skin that smoke wagon
Correct
It's ok if you're gay OP, lots of people are nowadays.
It's good until the shootout

That's one of the worst ever, old western are nuanced compared to this black and white absurdity.
Shut up gay, yes it is. Quit being a contrarian bonerboy.
It’s not a good movie but it’s a great kino

If they cut out the dumb romantic subplot it would be kino.

This but Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid
