It's more an adaptation of the French dub of City Hunter (Called Nicky Larson), which makes it more goofy and a little less dark than the original. But it's true to the show in that way.

      >diversity hires

The diversity is explained in the movie. It's basically the only piece of civilization left on Earth. This is actually in line with the Gunnm universe. The Scrapyard is literally built on the remains of St. Louis, Missouri.

To spread humanity trough space so they wouldn't (nearly) go extinct again. The Battle Angel Alita universe is pretty crazy and the movie barely scratched the surface.

        Anonymous

In the movie the scrapyard is in some south american shit hole because lol beaner director. Yet they kept the name kansas for the bar.
It doesn't even look like the scrapyard it's just mexico city with an occasional robot arm or leg.

          What

          Anonymous

No the scrapyard is in some South American shithole because space elevators are only possible on the equator, in the manga it's revealed that an asteroid impact knocked the Earth off its axis but even Kishiro couldn't find a way to explain that in an organic way without resorting to an infodump across multiple pages

            Anonymous

So in other words the moronic reason they gave for moving the scrapyard to a beaner shit-hole doesn't even make sense because they haven't read the manga

              Anonymous

Well duh, the movie is based on the OVA, not the manga. You should've figured this out from Jennifer Connelly's character existing (who also creates a huge plothole because we see Vector harvesting her brains despite her being from Zalem)

                Anonymous

you can't really say it's based on the ova either since desty nova, motorball, the ornate body etc aren't in the ova. The whole thing is a shit show and I hope it doesn't get a sequel.

                Anonymous

it's not a plot hole if the brain chips aren't going to be in the movies

But that's kind of a big deal, isn't it?

              Anonymous

              >So in other words...
Well you're right in that those are different words

Zalem is attached to a space elevator. They decided that one apocalyptic event preceding the story was enough so the setting was moved to South America because literally nothing about the plot requires that it takes place in North America aside from Nova's lair being in Cheyenne Mountain

                What?

                Anonymous

You are so mad about something nobody, including the original author, give a shit about. The movie has real problems with it but being set in South-America is not one of them.

                Anonymous

You're awfully defensive of beaner hacks making moronic changes to the setting for literally no good reason.

Damn, don't see this one get mentioned alot, or at all. I'm not going to sit and pretend that it's better than some other adaptations but I used to have this on rewatch. You would think Toku would have more attempts made on it, though. As I know it, only four have been made so far including Polymer (haven't seen it), Gatchaman (terrible), and Yatterman (entertaining with friends but Miike clearly wanted to make a movie in where all the female leads wanted 1's dick.)

Meaningless since the standard for that is non existant.
This was an extraordinarily bad movie.
None of the actors cared, that was clearly evident. The cgi main character was an uncanny valley abomination and even worse when put into a fast action sequence.
A general was kept alive by about a dozen trannies and their janny enablers for months on end, truly embarrassing times even for Cinemaphile.

It was maybe the best WESTERN adaptation of a manga. A random Netflix search will show you better adaptations from Asian studios.

But it is the best Robert Rodriguez movie in the last quarter century. The iron glove of James Cameron as a producer prevented this movie from being the usual cholo-cringe-egowank from Rodriguez. That guy can make a decent movie on his own.
