She was an animator who worked on the original Snow White (the first animated movie ever made). She died in 2021 at age 111. Imagine working on the first animated movie EVER MADE in the 1930s and living to see Spiderverse

It’s crazy how much the world can change in one lifetime

      >magine working on the first animated movie EVER MADE in the 1930s and living to see Spiderverse
I'd regret my entire life upon seeing Miles on screen.

Snow White is a lot more impressive looking than Spiderverse though. I feel like something like Spiderverse could be done using AI. You'll never make Snow White in AI.

Would have been nice to get a book from her to pass on what she knows

She was an old white women from the 30's. All she'd write down would be shit like don't let the colored folks into the studio.

And she’d be right, look at what “diverse” animators have brought us in the last 10 years. Nothing but Calarts garbage and faux-anime trash. Meanwhile all of the talented white men are stuck working on Modern Spongebob

that picture is from the 50s, dude. Ms. Tompson was born in 1911, she was already middle-aged at that time. This girl was young enough to be her daughter.

You think her advice is that good?
Maybe she should've written a book.

I wonder what other good advice she had.

She lived to see animation go from a unique medium into a soulless cashgrab of IPs. Personally I would’ve just killed myself the moment Scooby Doo came out.

Unironically I bet she was disgusted by how trash animation has been for the last 2 decades.

I want you to watch Snow White and pay attention to her facial animation. If you don't see anything wrong, then you have less than zero authority to say modern animation is trash in comparison.

Modern animation is trash in comparison.

Snow White was rotoscoped so of course she’d look a bit wonky. Pinocchio which came out four years later is a better comparison. That film looks stunning, even compared to other films about the same character

Pinocchio is easily Disney's most beautiful film aside from Fantasia. That sweeping shot of the village when Pinocchio goes to school is just amazing

The first animated movie was Fantasmagoria in 1908

The first animated feature film- depending on who you ask- is The Creator, which has no evidence towards its existence other than a few anecdotal pieces of text, or El Apostol, which is a lost Argentine film. Oldest surviving film is The Adventures of Prince Achmed. Snow White is the world's oldest surviving hand-drawn animated film, as well as America's first original animated film.
