That is the whole point of that scene, Tony was being such a prick you actually felt bad for Janice.
Tony was right to throw her homeless son in her face while she pretends to be a great mother. The anger management shit was just another one of Janice's phases, like the buddism or the born again christian shit. Within a few months she'd be back to her old self.
Sure, that's true, but at a certain point lambasting someone so mercilessly only hurts them. She was trying to improve in her own moronic way and you just come off like a jackass for not at least supporting your own blood. Tony became irredeemable way before this shit though.
Supporting your own blood only goes so far. Tony already put up with her shit for years, honestly way past what most people would, and he finally snaps and really lets her have it when he sees shes going back to her "turning over a new leaf" act and pretending to be mom of the year while her son is homeless.
What was the catalyst that made Tony such an butthole in the last couple seasons? They ramped up his sociopathic behavior even more toward the end but did nothing to indicate where it was coming from.

It was the complete deterioration of the character that was the problem. The guy did back flips on values and practices that had been established seasons prior.
Chase wienersuckers will explain this as showing the hypocrisy or contradictions of the flawed Mafiosos but I think that's a shield for laziness.
Basically they didn't like that people liked Tony. They wanted audiences to think he was a bad man but to do that they then needed to change the character they had already established without giving a reason.

Like when they suddenly act as if Tony only likes animals because hes a hecking sociopath thats has no emotions for people, when in earlier seasons his over the top emotional reaction toward animals are clearly his way of expressing his emotions towards people. Him crying over the ducks was really about his kid's leaving him, him killing Ralph over the horse was really about Traci. But no, David Chase is too good for sympathetic protagonists that do bad stuff, so Tony is a hecking sociopath that everyone in the audience should hate.

The writing was really falling apart by season 6. You might as well ask why Philly Readardo's entire character suddenly does a 180 in the last few episodes.
