Scott should've been banned from touching Alien after 1979. Thankfully there were four screenwriters before him who created the story so his take is just an alternative route and not anything he can claim was originally intended.

Your attempt to look sophisticated has failed. Horrors are simply genre cinema. Nothing inherently smart about that. The difference is that genre cinema, unlike drama and comedy, was seen as low tier trash for decades and decades until relatively recently.

They are both panned for ridiculous plot devices, unengaging story and characters, what it does to the Alien mythos and for pretending to be pretentious while being silly monster movies.

Isn't your kind always b***hing about this in regards to everything that followed the original Alien? So now it's not an issue? Ok then in simpler terms, Scott took whatever was presented in the original movie (that he didn't create) and fricked it up by making the unknown known and more pedestrian. Less the Forbidden Planet and more the Chariots of the Gods.

Scott said he was influenced by Lucas' thematic and visual expansion of his franchise. Funny how the kneejerk reaction by the average person is/was similar to the prequel asshurt except taken a step further or two as Scott is a much stronger filmmaker than Lucas.

Right Marvel and DC movies that critics don't pan like Thor 3 and Ant Man 2 have so much better engaging stories and characters

I didn't used to think so but I do now. I rewatched prometheus and it was good. I remembered that I didn't even like Alien the first time I watched it because I expected it to be like Aliens. Covenant is good too. I think these three movies are the three of all that I just will never stop being called to rewatch.
I rewatch Aliens and was like wow that was commercial - i'm not saying I don't like it but it doesn't have that unconscious psychoactive pull that these do.
I've no memory of three or four if i've ever seen them.

If only the moron studio had left Scott and Covenant alone...the Prometheus/David storyline is its own thing. It's entirely possible for it to exist alongside a Cameron "Space Marines" storyline rebooting from the end of "Aliens".

For a generic moronic bait picture it's surprising to see a poster for Matango there even if it sells that misanthropic social study a little short.

I think this view will be held by people who appreciate that a movie is something takes you to a place and makes you feel the sense of being there and what it means. Whereas these movies are less like by people who think of movies as a plot that exposes a set of facts about a world

Prometheus was shitty. Covenant was shitty. The alien movies after 3 are shit. Every single one is garbage.

But it's a stupid man's idea of a smart movie like Interstellar (except even normies had some fun laughing about how moronic the characters in Prometheus are) and if we count it as a movie related to Alien it does ruin the mystique. Thankfully Scott directed Alien but didn't write it and Prometheus is just his (very flawed) take on it.

different tones (prometheus a farce) but either way being in a place that has a feeling of hostility, unfathomable isolation, false hope falling away to perfect bleakness, alone with something that hates you, dying in the emptiness for absolutely nothing.
