It was suppose to be two movies. But the studio was about to be sold to Disney, so they cut it down to one. It shows. The villains are spooky but barely explained. Jean Grey suddenly exhibiting the Phoenix is barely explained. In the end you at least get Magneto being a chad among mutants again.
Overall its a pretty meh ending to the First Class set of films.
It's bizarre because there's almost a watchable movie here. I feel like they should have just left jlaw out entirely instead of killing her in the first half an hour. There's some weird pacing. The second act ends and it goes right into the finale with no time to breathe. Also Sophie Turner was a horrible casting choice back in Apocalypse. If those three things were addressed, I think it would be viewed more favorably.
>Jean displays the Phoenix force as if it's something she was born with, and defeats Apocalypse with it >Jean somehow has to get the Phoenix again, separately, from space, in the next movie >...
>weird pacing
They knew it would get bad reviews and stuff, and that the franchise was going out with a whimper, so their scheme to try and salvage some box office returns was to edit down and shorten the movie to allow for more screenings per day
It's really shit, but in a baffling way. If Apocalypse was excess, this feels like the reverse.
>Lighting is shitty, feels like a low budget direct to streamer >Villains are exceptionally vague in their appearance, goals and overall presence >Set pieces include: Fight in a hotel lobby and fight in a singular train car.
Like it somehow feels smaller than the original X-Men movie, and just nothing happens that's vaguely interesting. Feels like Bird Box tier.
It's alright, nothing special, but a solid 3/5. You can tell the butchered the ending in editing though after Disney bought Fox and wanted to do their own version of X-Men.
They changed the ending and opted for the train set piece because the original thing was too similar to Captain America Civil War's third act, where the scale is reduced and it's just Cap and Bucky and Tony.
Would be neat to see whatever that was- something like just Jean and Xavier and Magneto fighting, I guess

I liked it. More than some X-Men films.
How to explain? Well, a lot of these X-Men films have a character, "this is my power", show it once, and then maybe again at the end of the film.
When you watch these films, you just want to see mutants fight eachother. Frick the plot that always revolves around Wolverine or Mystique. I just want to see 90 mins of full on mutant porn!
Dark Phoenix scratched that itch for me, better than most.
Wasn't talking about that scene. But I'm sure fans preferred a telekinetic vs magnetism battle over Storm hitting Frog with a lightning bolt. You're too easily appeased if you disagree with me.
Would have liked some payoff for this.
But instead, nope, Quicksilver gets injured and vanishes from the movie, and he and Magneto never even share a scene together
I dismissed this scene before as trying to catch the same energy as the Time in a Bottle scene from DoFP but it actually has a lot of personality and that's worth a lot with how bad things have gotten since 2016.
She wasn't this bad in GOT before I dropped it, couldn't tell if it was her or the director
She wasn't this bad in Apocalypse either
>can't act
That's why she married rich. What other skills does she supposedly have?
But here's the twist: Cinemaphile forgets what a child actor is. Leo was one in a million. And he actually went to acting school. Arya, Sansa, Bran... they never learned the trade. Never had to.
Barely remember this one tbqh but remember thinking it was average. I only watched it for Jessica Chastain and I think I enjoyed the train(?) scene.
pretty good on god no cap
>Remember how much you hated Phoenix the first time?
>Well get ready to prefer that one!
It was better then apolocpyse
Boring and pathetic
more like x-flop

It's worth it for Fassbender.
And an underappreciated Hans soundtrack

absolutely one of the worst movie posters ever concocted how the frick did that get approved?
That's not even the worst x-men poster
>watching Legion
>they start talking about the main dudes father
>cut to the X rims spinning
I fricken died

anon, you're too easily appeased

They're both shit and you know it
Is this the one with the space scene at the beginning and a train scene at the end?
That was kino.
So bad I couldn't finish. Sansa and Cyclops are just, fricking awful. Watching them try to be romantic was enough for me.
Remember when people thought Jean and Cyclops were generic in the original cast?
Would have liked some payoff for this.

Get a room.
But yes, WandaVision dropped the ball with "Ralph Boner". He's returning in Wonder Man. So there's hope you'll see Fox Quicksilver yet.
If Quicksilver doesn't play a main role in it I'm not interested.
The only good scene in X-Men Apocalypse:
I dismissed this scene before as trying to catch the same energy as the Time in a Bottle scene from DoFP but it actually has a lot of personality and that's worth a lot with how bad things have gotten since 2016.
Great first 2/3, pathetic limp noodle of an ending. I wish I could see the version without whatever studio shenanigans happened
Lady Sansa can not act
She wasn't this bad in GOT before I dropped it, couldn't tell if it was her or the director
