Same reason Zendaya is even in it, let alone standing in front of him, and also not looking constipated like he does. The harpies and that homosexual Villneueve got their hooks into this story and turned it into pro-woman anti-hero garbage.
It is a shame but it is what most people deserve, trash, we do not deserve a hero, most people deserve trash.
>and turned it into anti-hero garbage
Please read the book. I'm not going to use the media literacy buzzword, mostly because you don't need to be that intelligent to understand what Herbert was going for.
The book isn't anti-hero at all, though, I don't know why everyone's saying this, both redditards who love this trope and chuds calling Herbert an anti-war leftist.
The bottom line of the book is that history is shit and participating in it sucks but you don't really have a better option and if something's gotta be done it's gonna be done. Remember that Paul saw the extermination of humanity the moment he sipped the water and knew exactly what he had to do to avert it but it was too hardcore for him so he stalled half-way through and remained a half-assed messiah. Remember also how he foresaw literally everything, except that he will have twins and Leto took the prescience gift from him, because history will have it's way no matter what and if you're too much of a cuck to do the dirty job, someone else will.
The harkonnens are great, Idk why some neet losers on Cinemaphile get so confident about judging believable performances, considering most of them only see a couple of people a week for the period of their shopping sessions, also dune is a compact story, it's as good as it can be, if you expected some opus of 5 hours for each movie delving into the characters personal lives and more nuanced perspective, that's on you, individuals of average intelligence and above, in my experience have been able to appreciate the movies for what they are.
Villeneuve has no idea how to make films with actual humanity. All his shit is just "spectacle" (CGI) with a tight narrative that is the equivalent of jingling keys. Exactly like Nolan. The fact that these two are the most venerated directors in Hollywood right now speaks volumes about how fricked American cinema is.
disagree on Villeneuve, his Blade Runner, Sicario, Enemy are very good, and Arrival is preddy good too, although a bit hyped.
Very much agree on Nolan though, I always feel like I slipped into some nightmare world taken over by brain parasites when everyone cooms buckets over a new release of his and all I can make out is shiny polished shit. His best films were Memento and The Prestige.
The marriage in Arrival is more believable than the one in Oppenheimer. Nolan is more high concept than DV but pulls it off with a spartan grit to his method that DV waffles on his "arthouse roots" where he meanders on mood instead of making blockbuster his own thing.
>why on earth did it get good reviews? >the dialogue, plot and characters are a bad joke >even the absolutely ridiculous harkonnen characters? >what an absolute mess i can't believe it has an 8.7/10 on imdb >nappy haired quadroon is such a fricking detriment to the movie
Oh, shit this guy resposted with a funny picture, representing OP and his foolishness.
Op in suicide watch, it is literally over. hello 911? I'm waiting for OP response, I'm worried. It's hopeless
there were a couple points where I think he didn't quite nail it, but mostly he was good. I liked him in the first movie, too
zendaya was definitely trash though, and the role itself only compounded this, with its awful writing and inexcusable departure from the book
He's stabbed by his own knife in the side, the emperor's knife goes in the shoulder. While he's pretending to be desperately trying to stop being stabbed in the shoulder, he takes his own knife out and stabs Feyd.
How did you miss the knife in his side being his own knife and pulling out the emperor's knife from his shoulder after Feyd died, then?

ok i see it now but don't you think it's really poorly done?

Not really. I think it's genius that Paul is basically using Feyd's own tactic from the arena against him. Paul also saw it was the only way to win, there's a vision of the knife after he drinks the Water of Life.
I liked the new Blade Runner but Dune is just atrocious, I can't believe both were directed by the same guy. Zendaya and Timothee are so fricking ugly.
Unironically, I hate nearly every piece of media produced these days because they seem to only appeal to women and homosexuals.
But I loved Dunc 1 and 2. It felt void of that modern twitter writing voice that infects everything. Male characters were actually competent and not b***hmade.
Could have used less Chani being a complete b***h. Like Paul is supposed to be the love of your life, be a bit more caring. Damn. Hard to find supportive GFs in film and tv today. Maybe just a reflection of the times haha.
the movie is amazing but for a reason even most people who like it wouldn't think to give you
it is mythological in the sense that it is the story of the messiah and it uses symbolism and scale to present a glimpse at the burden of true leadership (defining that here as leadership which isn't merely political as informed by the existing structures but one that stems from a communion of souls where the messiah becomes part of his people, an indispensable organ of sight not found individually in the others of the mass)
we see these burdens Paul is taking on briefly, in flashes, and we are not able to comprehend their full scope and weight as it should be - we are not messiahs, but we are capable of perceiving what such a figure could mean for us and what it can do for us
that is why the plot is not even secondary, because before it come the myth and the symbols and their meaning
if you've read the Iliad and understood it for what it is then you can make a parallel to understand this movie as well
gay
Dune was passible for entertainment today, but not great.
I had no hope for it being the next Lotr or whathaveyou but I loved the books and was willing to give this adaptation a fair shot… and it misses as much as it hits. It’s not visually weird enough, not narratively weird enough, Denis played it safe, and we got a serviceable adaptation in 5 hours between two films…. But it’s not Dune. Not in spirit anyway
When I was a kid I was reading one of the Dune books at the library and I saw a stray dog eat rotten shit out of a garbage can. He was really happy, wagging his tail and everything. It blew my mind how he could enjoy eating that.
I totally forgot about that dog until I saw all the people on Cinemaphile praising Dunc2
I think the movie brings these messages up through zendaya, but whether he intended it or not she's very unlikable in there for hard to side with. I'm not even sure what she actually wants other than to just b***h at Paul. Does she want a freman leader? Who?
They've been at War for however many years and never did as good as when Paul took over.
Idk what you expect, Cinemaphile has always been a place for bitter boomer contrarians to congregate, you should never take a negative perception of something on this website seriously.
The negativity increases because the shills get bored and move on. You don't get honest discussion about new movies on Cinemaphile, you have to wait untill the buzz has died down.
I thought it was amazing. I've seen it multiple times. Still thinking about it. The biggest weakness is obviously Zendaya, but everything else is perfect. Denis succeeded despite himself.
it's a bad movie but the shills are working overtime because they need to save the industry
it's popular on Cinemaphile because Villeneuve has a bunch of cultic zoomer anons who defend everything he does because they like 2049 (another overrated movie, inferior to the original)
Media literacy issue, it's too late now, people have been used to mediocrity for decades.
The same thing is happening in other fields, by the way, a friend of mine is a huge theater fan and told me shows that are being acclaimed today wouldn't even have got a review three decades ago.
>why on earth did it get good reviews?
People were paid to and criticizing a BLACK PERSON is MORALLY CORRUPT so you can't do that, regardless of the rest of the film.
damn why is Timmy looking like a Wish version of Walken in that pic?
Same reason Zendaya is even in it, let alone standing in front of him, and also not looking constipated like he does. The harpies and that homosexual Villneueve got their hooks into this story and turned it into pro-woman anti-hero garbage.

Please read the book. I'm not going to use the media literacy buzzword, mostly because you don't need to be that intelligent to understand what Herbert was going for.
I read the book and disagree with Herbert.
So you think when Hollywood makes an adaptation of the book they must align themselves with your opinion over the author's?
Villneueve altered his adaptation of the first book via Chani to make Herbert's (failed) intention less subtle and much more obnoxious.
That's fine, but that means Villehuehuehue didn't "turn" the story into anything. It's what it always was.
The book isn't anti-hero at all, though, I don't know why everyone's saying this, both redditards who love this trope and chuds calling Herbert an anti-war leftist.
The bottom line of the book is that history is shit and participating in it sucks but you don't really have a better option and if something's gotta be done it's gonna be done. stfu moronBlack person
well i liked it. visually it was great, good dialogue, the plot was easier to follow than the old dune movie and it kept me engaged
the dialogue, plot and characters are a bad joke
agree to disagree, i liked it
even the absolutely ridiculous harkonnen characters?
The Harkonnen and Sardukar were the best characters, the movies should have been about them
they are bald screaming clowns
This is only true because of how insipid the Atreides and Fremen are. Lousy American actors with millennial script writers, doomed from the start
sure why not
The harkonnens are great, Idk why some neet losers on Cinemaphile get so confident about judging believable performances, considering most of them only see a couple of people a week for the period of their shopping sessions, also dune is a compact story, it's as good as it can be, if you expected some opus of 5 hours for each movie delving into the characters personal lives and more nuanced perspective, that's on you, individuals of average intelligence and above, in my experience have been able to appreciate the movies for what they are.
I never expected it to mog GxK but here we are.
Get better taste in movies homosexual.

what an absolute mess i can't believe it has an 8.7/10 on imdb
>8.7/10 on imdb
lol. IMDB is as reliable as Rotten Tomato's for ratings.
It's always seemed pretty consistent to me, just because a small amount of unhinged con/tv/rarians disagree, doesn't make it so.
nappy haired quadroon is such a fricking detriment to the movie
>why on earth did it get good reviews?

Something tells me the mostly competently made sci-fi movie is not the worst thing you've ever seen and you're exaggerating for replies.
>the mostly competently made sci-fi movie
no i'd say it's even worse than the disney star wars movies
Please watch more movies if you think this is the worst movie ever. Actually, please stop baiting on this website like a 14 year old.
i'm being honest
You're being a Black person.
dunc mindbroke Cinemaphile because a good movie existing shortcircuits their nihilistic programming
It was designed to appeal to midwits. People who are too good for capeshit but think Nolan and Tarantino are peak cinema. It succeeded in that regard.
overextractiongay, you hate it because its popular.
i would never hate something because it's popular, i wanted to like it
maybe star wars and mcu is more of your thing
the two lead actors completely destroyed the movie
everyone keeps focusing on muttdaya but i hate chalamet way more
chalamet was based, you probably irrationally hate twinks and got filtered by his performance
there were a couple points where I think he didn't quite nail it, but mostly he was good. I liked him in the first movie, too
zendaya was definitely trash though, and the role itself only compounded this, with its awful writing and inexcusable departure from the book
i love twinks but hate xanaxd-out israelite zoomers
he has literally two modes of acting in the movie, deadpan xanax mumbling and YELLING VERY LOUD
>got filtered by his performance
what performance lmao. he can't act
Then how is he the biggest star of hollywood right now? Now don’t spew antisemitic conspiracy theories like israeli nepotism etc
>biggest star of hollywood right now
so? that has nothing to do with talent. he was a pretty boy and he got popular, big deal.
There are countless boys prettier than him. Why aren’t they as popular? Could it be that unlike Timmy, they lack actual talent?
>muttdaya
what were they thinking with those ridiculous fight scenes?
paul gets stabbed in the side and then moments later he's pulling it out of his shoulder
He's stabbed by his own knife in the side, the emperor's knife goes in the shoulder. While he's pretending to be desperately trying to stop being stabbed in the shoulder, he takes his own knife out and stabs Feyd.
what? he grabs feyds knife by the blade (which is also dumb) and stabs him with it
he was never stabbed in the shoulder
Rewatch the scene. Not being an butthole, just legitimately saying you've got it confused.
i just did
How did you miss the knife in his side being his own knife and pulling out the emperor's knife from his shoulder after Feyd died, then?
ok i see it now but don't you think it's really poorly done?
Not really. I think it's genius that Paul is basically using Feyd's own tactic from the arena against him. Paul also saw it was the only way to win, there's a vision of the knife after he drinks the Water of Life.
>8.5/10 movie until zendaya "WHOS A FRICKING Black person BTW" shows up and brings it down to a 1/10
its all so tiresome
she doesnt even get nude like in the books or mini series
shame since shes kinda hot fr fr ong
I liked the new Blade Runner but Dune is just atrocious, I can't believe both were directed by the same guy. Zendaya and Timothee are so fricking ugly.
