Old cgi hits different because it's uniquely it's own thing, it doesn't try to copy real life or cartoony stuff because it can't, it's extremely unique something 2d could never capture.

I was 16 when that came out. Not only a good song and a great album but I do remember the graphics being neat to watch on the ol' Much Music (back when they were good and not the millenial trash it dishes out now).

I remember seeing these little Pixar vignettes in the 80s. Yes, it was pretty amazing to watch. It always captivated the audiences. The technological jump was pretty amazing. Up until then the only computer animated movie was Tron and The Last Starfighter. Both were groundbreaking in their time.

Now there's nothing innovative about computer animation in media anymore. The graphics have advanced to such an extent that it's pretty common. It's neat to have witnessed it all which todays generation takes for granted.

Only voice AI is truly something, drawings still have problems with fingers and only seems to be able to do a few styles

Don't forget that they can't do characters interacting besides basic shit like sitting or standing together.
Though if you want something without that, SD can be pretty impressive.

Just compare this to the helicopter scene in Golgo 13 or the Chrome Walnut in Flight of the Navigator and you'll get it. The idea that you could do this with fricking ones and zeroes was staggering to people, after 75 years of pencil and paper or stop motion being the only feasible mediums this was electrifying. Imagine being there for the first Wright Brothers flight, never mind it only went a few feet and was slower than a car or walking, it was humanity peaking over and an entire new field of endeavor.

CGI animation basically was the way more damaging version of AI
No talent or creativity needed that destroyed the cultural beauty of what existed before. The Pixar and SIGGRAPH nerds should have seen it coming, they were the 80s versions of the AI techbros and they destroyed the entire industry with people who can't animate anymore and everything is a ugly globohomosexual mess of CGI.
Really Pixar is the most damaging disaster to ever happen to the medium and always will be

Just a small reminder. This is how John Lasseter was fired from Disney in 1984:

    >Create the first 3D/2D hybrid animation ever
    >Pitch it to the bosses so they can see the potential of the new technology
    >A few minutes after the meeting, Lasseter was summoned by Hansen to his office. As Lasseter recalled, Hansen told him, "Well, John, your project is now complete, so your employment with the Disney Studios is now terminated."[32]

But needless to say, hybrid animation and full 3D became utilized... Pretty much immediately after that.
