>This May the 4th weekend (so, from Friday 3 May), The Phantom Menace will be re-released in cinemas for a limited time, meaning you can revisit all your favourite moments as large and loud as George Lucas intended. Not only that, but the release is accompanied by epic new poster art from Matt Ferguson – with Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon ready to head into battle, Padmé standing her ground, and the ominous face of Darth Maul looming over it all. Now this is podracing!

I remember this shit breaking me as a 7 year old kid, when I kept asking my parents about why didn't Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan just sold the fricking royal private luxury ship for a cheaper one. why didn't they just send a message to the Jedi Order for a ride, why didn't they hire a smuggler or something to get them there, why didn't they sold the equipment and clothes and shit of the queen for local money, why didn't they just go to a money changer, why didnt they kept looking for parts elsewhere, why did they went all the way with that betting shit instead of just jedi mind tricking someone. Hell, they could have even just threatened Watto, "hey, we are Jedi and we are going to cut you down for slaveholding if you don't help us" with promises pf monetary compensation later instead of all that betting shit. In fact, they could have just bet their cash on some sabacc came in a cantina, control the dice like Qui-Gon did and get the money for repairs in like, an hour or so,

And the best part is, the ENTIRETY of this shit does not matter in the slightest. The journey, Coruscant, the Queen, NOTHING. 2/3 of the runtime of the movie are meaningless filler, just to get Anakin on the ship. All their plans fail, all the characters fail, all the background and world fails, all the plot fails. Then the obnoxious c**t just blurts in that AKSHUALLY they had an army ready the entire time, so just the movie could continue and all the CIS ships are conveniently gone too so the rest of the movie could happen.

As a fricking kid I was howling mad about how STUPID this is and it ruined me on media forever. FRICK this movie and FRICK the sóys trying to defend it

They needed to, because the movie insisted to enable its dumb plot.

Just curious. I've literally never watched this anywhere but on VHS

Amazing, the podracing part was the only decent part of the movie, with actual stakes at play and of course they cut down on that one.

        >dumb 7 year old has dumb questions
Not sure why you felt the need to pad the run-time this hard.

        >STOP ASKING COMPLETELY LOGICAL QUESTIONS AND JUST CONSOOM

        No. 🙂

Literally the entire movie is trash, every single tiny plot element they introduce, nothing makes sense. Like how they did not accept the testimony of two Jedi about the invasion, the same two they have sent to negotiate about it. Or everything about the Gungan army

Lucas has famously talked a lot about artists having the rights to control their work, so i'd imagine it'd be a priority for him.

            >helpless, moronic fanboy kvetching

Your tears are delicious. SW fans are the biggest sóys on earth, forcibly dumbing themselves down to be allowed to love the product they consoom

they couldn't have threatened watto because 1. he would've gone to the hutts and 2. it's not "the jedi way"

            this:
            [...]

by the point they got to tatooine quigon had essentially hijacked the entire operation and was adamant on doing things his way. his stubbornness and inflexibility is kind of the point, and also they didn't want to raise any alarm bells to the hutts etc by trying to publicly sell the ship. their operation was also ostensibly about keeping the queen completely away from danger

            >the greedy vendor going to the Hutts over being promised money if he shuts the frick up.

Yeah, sounds very plausible. Almost as plausible as the Jedi being unable to contact anyone, send a message, hire a transport or even just change their money to a local currency. No, they HAD to make a stupid stack of moronic bets, there was no other way, guys!

Plus it was already shown that Qui-gon had zero moral qualms, he tried to mind trick Watto who could only resist it because of plot and used the force to alter a dice roll. He was already unfair and underhanded, so why not just do wrong, right? Show a movie about Jedi being forced to survive and adjust their morality in a wretched hive of scum and villainy, see how they use their powers how do they think when forced into stealth.

And in the end none of that mattered. The prequels could have literally started with Episode 2 .

          >Which was moronic when you think about what was going on in the plot.

They just suddenly changed their mind with no structure or buildup or characterization, just random events going on and the stack of moron bets getting even higher for absolutely no reason, as there was nothing preventing them from just sending a message to Coruscant, hiring a Han Solo ass freighter to just get there, secure the queen and be done with it and just return for the weird Midi-Chlorian(lmao) prodidgy a few weeks or months later. Even that shit falls apart, as their escort quest to Coruscant turns out to be totally pointless and meaningless, for some reason the Republic does not act to protect its member planet, nor even accept the testimony of a Jedi knight or a planetary monarch of an invasion, which is both just so incredibly moronic that it boggles the mind, then the entire movie gets undone as they just GO BACK to Naboo. They even bring the little kid into the warzone! Also its never explained why its the same two jedi or even why just two jedi get sent back when they know that a Sith lord is active. Good thing a random ass army materialized out of plot contrivance, because it would have been the most awkward credit roll ever as they just stand there completely fricked.

Nothing, absolutely nothing makes sense about the entire movie, it falls apart on the slightest application of logic or common sense. Shitty scripts that cannot immerse you with their boring ass plots and flat characters and require you to turn off your brain entiretly is NOT entertainment.

It didn't flop since the the only cost was the 3D conversion, and that wouldn't have stopped George from just going on anyway.
But it is confirmed that Episode II and III were converted at the same time as I and so those masters do exist, but the releases were canceled since the mouse bought Lucasfilm at the end of 2011 and immediately made prequel media verboten to hype people up for their slop.

Does anyone remember when they re-released Phantom Menace in theaters in 3D back in the early 2010s? I went to go see that with my dad.
They were gonna do the other prequels too but Disney bought Lucasfilms and cancelled it.

I’ll definitely go see it again but man I feel old reading this, I hope they have it in IMAX so I can enjoy the Podracing scene in its full glory again.

The prequels are an eye-opener when it comes to audiences being too dumb to understand basic plots if they aren't explicitly spelled out.

Huh, never heard of that. I'll say it would have have helped the movie if they had political stuff on Coruscant to cut to during the whole Naboo to Tatoiine half of it.

I watched it in 3D in 2012 right before Disney bought them. I had a girlfriend then.

God I hope this causes a wave of "holy shit it's fricking trash" because I don't believe anyone actually watches the prequels and just consumes "lol funny prequel memes".

It was loser fat frick Gen Xers that b***hed to the high heavens about the prequels because it wasn't just like the OT. The freaks think THEY knew better than the guy who actually created the whole thing. And because they had ZERO media literacy, they didn't understand a damn thing about it.

Will they be doing autism friendly screenings or is it a more limited run?

I ask because I want to take my young nephew to see the Star Wars and introduce him to the film's as I was at his age. The thing is though I get funny looks at normal screenings of films when I run up and down the asiles shouting about my willy and waving my light up toy around. I want him to enjoy the film and not worry about all the haters picking on his cool Uncle.
