>cultural
It features legit aspects and characters from Japan, where standards and norms are very specific. The cultural contrast exists because they actually went to Tokyo and many of the scenes had not just local actors but local residents and Bill Murray improvised here and there, adding spontaneity to these interactions. >emotional
The movie's about 2 people at different phases in life whose existential crises are solved by their mutual attraction and complementarity. Their relationship dissolves their isolation and boredom.
>cultural and emotional aspects
it has none, it's a completely shallow film beginning to end
Sshhhh dummy, don't talk about things you're yet to understand
The movie is about a spoiled rich white girl who travels to Japan for a week and cheats on her husband during a moment of mild existential crisis. If you think this movie is deep you are either under 23 or a woman, or a genuine moron

kek it's literally just wide shots of tokyo with lol funny bug man moments mixed in
No, it's much much more than that and I feel embarrassed for you.
Pay attention next time. I also recommend you rewatch it and see how your "it's just wide shots of Tokyo" nonsense holds up
She's always been linked to indie bands and music and dated the guy from Phoenix I think?
The Somewhere trailer was a work of art bc the demo version for the Strokes' "I'll Try Anything Once" works beautifully, from the weary/wistful vocals to the lyrics
I went to the New York bar in the park hyiat in Tokyo and the view is very nice. I was expecting to be thrown out for being poor at any second. The food and drink was reasonably priced and rich americans dressed very causually which gave me cover. The interior of the hotel is like the nicest museum/library iv ever seen.
There wasn't nearly enough backstory or flashbacks for side characters and I do not feel like Bill Murray's character displayed a dramatic increase in his power level by the end of the film.
Perhaps they can release a director's cut where Scarlett's husband narrates about his childhood for an additional thirty minutes and Murray beats up some Yakuza thugs with his signature Suntory Time Jutsu.
This might sound stupid, but in the karaoke bar the Japanese guy sings 'God Save The Queen' in the Sex Pistols version. There are a whole bunch of 'rrrrrr' in it. And he nails it with a lot of attitude too. I thought like maybe it was an inside joke on how the Japanese are not able to pronounciate the 'r'.
Your argument attempt is entirely idiotic. John Huston was a "nepo baby".
As for being a woman, Sofia did a few great movies and later lost her fastball a bit. But the fact that she did LiT and Somewhere from a midlife male perspective was impressive
Its carried by the fact that Japan is still an ethnostate so they genuinely feel like they are in another world and not just a rip off of NYC or London.
I would watch pretty much anything in this setting. I heckin love japan so much and I don't care if someone calls me a basedjack for this. Japan just looks so cozy.

It's a factor but the cultural and emotional aspects are a major element of its enduring success.
>cultural and emotional aspects
Please explain.

not op but you are both too moronic to watch a movie beyond its face value, hopefully you are just underage and not this mentally challenged
Needless to say, filtered. You're looking at it from a resentful pov
Great counterargument. You've probably inexperienced and/or a midwit so your rationale and empathy are stunted-- you don't see past the surface
>cultural and emotional aspects
it has none, it's a completely shallow film beginning to end
That certainly is an opinion.

>No, it's much much more than that
it really isn't, please grow up
>This movie is carried entirely by the visuals
We're all friends here, Anon, you can just say ScarJo's ass

she was only 17 you sick frick
True but it's still 10/10
the visuals being prime ScarJo of course
>Just because we're apart doesn't mean we can't still be together
She really kissed that old ass geezer
great film
True, aside from the images and sounds this movie offers little.
This movie also makes fun of japs and their moronic entertainment culture
How is Sofia Coppola listening to Squarepusher? I guess it was the hip thing to do.
She's always been linked to indie bands and music and dated the guy from Phoenix I think?
The Somewhere trailer was a work of art bc the demo version for the Strokes' "I'll Try Anything Once" works beautifully, from the weary/wistful vocals to the lyrics
Actually, Bill Murray carries every part of the movie. No one else could play that role.
was about to post this
what a dumb fricking thread

oh no we got a lore/plotgay here. Let me guess you wanted more world building?

Lost in Translation isn't part of the MCU

this homie trying to argue that a movie directed by a nepo baby female is deep
Your argument attempt is entirely idiotic. John Huston was a "nepo baby".

So what? And no it isn't. If it was, it would be good.
Its carried by the fact that Japan is still an ethnostate so they genuinely feel like they are in another world and not just a rip off of NYC or London.
>visuals and music
Wow, the components of filmmaking made a movie good? Never would have imagined.
>OMG IS THAT GOOD WRITING AND DGREAT AESTEHTICS WTF IM SHITTINGFGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
Yeah, it's a movie.
This movie is also a blatant ripoff of Wong Kar Wai's style
>sounds like pots and pans dropped down the stairs
good
>early millenium tokyo and film

Hasn't had a good film since.
