This one has too many cartoon vibes to not be discuss here

Becky Brewster, and her world in general, it's early 2000's cartoon style combine with old Disney's fluid animation and that's just beautiful

An indie game. It's Binding of Issac featuring this girl and handdrawn animation.

As in a roguelike style gameplay, or a Christianity, parental abuse, mind break, horror, slathered with piss and shit theme?

More like inspired by Zelda and showing blood and stuff. The theme is more about school life and a vampire uprising. You can check out the free Demo on description from the newest announcement on youtube.

Ah, that makes more sense. The style looked too cute and clean to share such a theme, but I like roguelikes so I was hoping for the former. Zelda inspired doesn't sound bad either.

I see it, but it's definitely a much different, less visceral kind of gore. Just feels like an inappropriate comparison.

Oh I know this publisher, they the same guys that published A Hat In Time along other indie games that have interesting artstyles or specifics niches.
Their games are very hit and miss tho, sometimes they strike gold and other times it's just boring crap.
If I had to choose one of them and "try" to make it Cinemaphile related content I would have plenty of options.

It feels like it wants to be like Dexter or any other similar show, but the designs are too 2010s-y to really pull it off.

it looks more like late 2000's pre Gumball but post Savino's Dexter.

      Anonymous

I don't know what you mean, the designs are more reminiscent to the late 90's and early 2000's (PPG, MLAATR, The Fairly OddParents) than 2010's (AT, GF, Regular Show). The angles of the edges are smooth instead of sharp, sure, but the eyes, shape of the body and deformed expressions are not from the 2010's

I'm checking these games right now for the first time and I feel that many of them are like fangames based off other games but given a unique spin to them.
For example, pic is called The Wild at Heart and it's basically a Pikmin game but in a Tumblr artstyle.
Now this is both good and bad for different reasons but this is Cinemaphile so I'm not going to deep in this.

I've been saying for awhile that the video game industry is the last real hope for 2D animators to actually find work in the States since Netflix axed their animation division. Unfortunately, you can't make threads about it without being considered off-topic even though we get constant Cinemaphile spam and Twitter screenshots that go unchecked. Frick, I can't even make a Team Fortress 2 thread without there being a 50/50 chance of it being deleted for "not being Cinemaphile related".

funny you say that, this thing began because the studio wanted to pitch the idea to disney (or was it netflix?) and they got denied

Gris was intended as a netflix or disney pitch? Source? I saw it was made when an artist met some ubisoft devs

But can't we discuss the cartoon side of it? Not only is about the artstyle, it has very nice cartoon animation, both in the cutscenes and through out the whole game, and seems to be one of the best original works coming from Exit73Studios since Flex Calibur

What surprises me to no end is that it was animated using an old ass version of flash from 20 years ago. Fricking flash.

      Anonymous

That's cool. They seem to have been around for a while, wouldn't be surprised if some of the animators were from the albinoblacksheep or early NG days

      Anonymous

Cause it's mega easy to pirate that program and Macromedia Flash crashes WAY less than Adobe Flash. At least in my experience.

        Anonymous

but even then, this is coming from a settled animation studio with many years and many projects. It may have some logic and reasons, but it's still very weird, specially for handdrawn animation

          Anonymous

Titmouse also still uses Adobe Flash because they developed so many plugins and custom scripts that they use for their productions, switching over to ToonBoom where their animators might not be familiar with the program and may not be able to recreate some of their plugins isn't worth it.

It's like how many South Korea animation studios we outsource to still do the initial animation on paper even though it's digitally cleaned up. The infrastructure is there and there's not much incentive to change when the pipeline is working.

            Anonymous

that makes sense. Any sources for Titmouse still using Flash?. I like to see behind scenes or at least blogs on how studios make their stuff

Here's probably one of the more "recent" interviews I can find on the fly that mention that they still use Flash. It's from 2016, but this isn't really a question that they're being asked on an annual basis anyway. If you go on their website now, they still have open job spots for Flash animators.

                Anonymous

Oh, wrong article link. That first one only mentions they got their startup using Flash. This one mentions that they still use in as of 2016.
