Yeah that's what ruined it for me too. Protagonist is too much of a sue so there's no tension. The only time there was a single exciting scene in the phone was when he had to coach the black dude how to escape the motel because at least the black cop is actually a mortal and not a demigod so I could believe he was actually in trouble.
The Tom Cruise version was unironically better.
Reacher fans actually complained that the mooks where too threatening in the show, and book reacher dispatched them without breaking a sweat.

I liked the Tom Cruise version but he was Ethan Hunt without the resources. The character is supposed to be based on 1980s meathead musclehead shoot 'em up heroes like Rambo and John Matrix from Commando.
It's a role that would have been offered to Stallone, Schwarzenegger, Chuck Norris, Jean Claude Van Damme, Kurt Russell back in the 1980s or early 1990s.
Only criticism is that the main actor look more grizzled. He looked like a WWE wrestler or male stripper in the last Fast and Furious.
Character is supposed to be a smart frankenstein motherfricker. A smart beast.
Eh, there were parts of Terminal List I liked, but it was also a super downer for most of the season. Reacher wasn't amazing, but it was nice watching a show that didn't go super dour and just had fun setting up some nice action schlock. Ryan *could* have been excellent and I like Jim Krazinski in the role, but it has a tendency to lean a bit too hard on the "drama that results from people making blatantly moronic decisions" trope, though that may just be a problem with the source material (I remember some of that showing up in Clear and Present Danger, Patriot Games, and Hunt For Red October as well)
Yeah. It has a more grim, darker tone than Jack Ryan and Reacher. Ryan and Reacher are more fun. Terminal List is closer to Homeland in tone which I don't mind.

Who wrote the death scenes for the main bad guys, they create a giant piece of shit we want to get his comeuppance he attacks reacher with a crowbar, they are fighting constantly with the crowbar, instead of what shouldve happened where reacher rams the crowbar through his chest and he dies giving him time to realise he has been bested, reacher just shoots him with his desert eagle a bunch of times killing him instantly

I didnt mind it, as long as you entered it knowing it was gonna be schlock.
The reveal at the end of the 1st episode actually got me which was refreshing.
Then there were a few decent scenes sprinkled through the whole thing (not that many) and the overall plot with the fake money reeked of something the author had just found out on wikipedia two days before he started to write the script.
On the other thing i really enjoyed the Cruise ones, they had a lot of personality, except for all the shit with Robert Duval, every scene he was in was garbage.
Second movie was weaker but funnier.

The Cruise films were pretty good - Werner Herzog showing up halfway through the first movie threw me for a fricking loop.
The Cruise movies made more sense with how people underestimated the small guy who then kicked their ass because he's got training and they're drunk yahoos. The show made zero sense with how people thought they could beat Reacher's ass, when he's so frickhueg.
I also loved the fact that movie reacher only survived the ambush at that guy's house because his attackers couldn't swing their baseball bat/crowbar in the small room. Not only would he have died if the first hit had connected with his head, which brings in some realism, he actually looked surprised at not being hit which made it funny. Meanwhile the show had Reacher tank crowbar shots as if being a big guy somehow makes it so that your ribs and arm bones won't break. That whole fight was fricking moronic.
