This show completely mogs nu Trek so badly it's insane. I just finished the episode with the bio ship and if you yanked out the pop culture references it's a really good TNG episode. What gives? Why did it take Family Guy to save Star Trek?

Stay mad.
It blows this out of the water, SNW is too melodramatic.
>nnoooooo the robot committed suey side black woman sobs and blames whitey so sad
>apple store parody
nuTrek is not Trek, lmao
Stay mad
I enjoy both.
this.
Orville is definitely a stronger show overall, but I think Strange New Worlds is at least as good as the earlier seasons of TNG
SNW has potential to come into its own as a really good Trek series, Orville came out stronger for sure though.
They look uncanny. And the middle guy looks like the "Buy the dip" guy.
I'd been having my doubts so far about season 3 but the most recent episode was some top tier 10/10 kino that wouldn't have felt out of place in TNG. I want more shit like that.
This whole season so far is really great. Weird that there's no threads up about it, or maybe that's a good thing because of how shit generals can be. I've really enjoyed it so far
>fun enjoyable show
Cinemaphile is only for bait, seething, and troonyjak threads. It makes perfect sense no one wants to talk about it really.
Nobody knows it exists mate
Not even this board who lost interest during S2 which is fair that season was kinda meh
I wait until the season is done and watch it all in one sitting.
Everyone does. But it’s too expensive. Apparently all the contracts are done. This is the last season because Seth has his NBC Universal deal.
>the most recent episode was some top tier 10/10 kino that wouldn't have felt out of place in TNG
>they just get tortured by an uncharismatic version of Q for a full hour. no commercials
>by extension, so does the viewer
eh
>someone who obviously likes Star Trek, and has the talent to make good shows
It's a mystery.
me on the right
thorville?
I just can't do it. Literally half the cast cannot act. Their line delivery is just fricking awful. Also, copy pasting the Star Wars score over top of Star Trek doesn't really work.
It's just very highly budgeted fanfiction. Made by fans for fans. The only things that hinders it it's Seth's autistic style of comedy but he overcomes that aswell.
His pop culture references are usually lame to meh but giving those red aliens reality TV to replace their human zoo was hilarious.
DS9
VOY
Babylon 5
TOS
TNG
The Orville
LD
ST
TAS
ENT
PRO
DSC
PCD
>LD
>ST
>PRO
>DSC
>PCD
I have no idea what these are and you fail at acronyms.
I know DSC is the Disney-approved shortening of STD that shills use.
The robot and Bordis are the funniest characters to me because they're just Worf and Data but with their defining characteristics turned to 11.
>robot tells niglet to brace for pain as he resets his broken leg
>just resets it without giving him time to brace it
>"Bortus gay" somehow less gay than "Strange israelite Troons"
Gay hyper violent Klingons is a joke that just never stops being hilarious to me.
Especially when you consider that Klayden is played by Chad Coleman, hammer-wielding Tyreese from Walking Dead and Fred Johnson from the Expanse.
also
Frick. Why can't we have more funny shit like this?
Not just gay, but ultra mega gay. They cant stop shitting up the sim room with their pirated gang bang rape torture ROMs
the series finale should be about how he misses his shuttle to board the ship and it smashes into something
It really does holy shit, it's weirdly satisfying how the tone changes over the seasons too.
I want Liz Gillies.
I don't care if she's larping TRON
Better TRON than Troon.
>manface
>manbody
>manvoice
>manmovements
>adams apple
what the frick were they thinking
unsurprisingly the resident troon schizo in /trek/ thinks it's the greatest thing since that time his dad raped him
jesus christ i dont even want to know
I didn't either but it's his personal tumblr apparently
I want her to show up in a human disguise that is her normal IRL self.
She makes me hot
Season 2 devolved into shipping garbage and I dropped it. Is 3 back to TNG with family guy jokes?
no, now it's deathly serious and pretty boring
Because MacFarlane actually likes startrek unlike the people who currently make startrek shows
>elderly Cassidy Yates sleeps with slime Norm MacDonald
>elderly Cassidy Yates sleeps with a robot
>elderly Cassidy Yates sleeps with her israelite med school professor but now he's an evil space spider
enough
Captain Sisko btfo
7 episodes left and it's over forever
Seth ripped off classic trek and no one likes nu-trek. Simple as.
>Why did it take Family Guy to save Star Trek?
Because Seth MacFarlane literally lives and breathes TV "of that era".
His brain is Sinatra x Star Trek x Simpsons.
It's not even hard to a write an episode of a show that resembles old Trek. Even a kid could do it. A full season of stories is a different matter, but that shouldn't be a problem with a room of writers at all.
There are plenty of people alive today that are capable of writing stuff of that frankly not so high calibre... you start with a mystery premise or hook in the vein of weird fiction/adventure pulps, make sure you have sufficient twists and turns (three or four unexpected/unforeseen plot developments should be sufficient), invent a thematically appropriate b-plot, then simply imagine how the characters react. There are so many stories out there you can simply put a spin on. You could directly steal and repurpose ideas from Ray Bradybury stories like Night Call Collect, and you don't even have to restrict yourself to pulps. You could just rip off mainstream movie plots like Die Hard like TNG did and make an enjoyable episode. Even rudimentary knowledge of Asimov, Heinlein, Arthur C. Clarke, Philip K Dick, H.G. Wells, Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, Ursula K Leguin, Jule Verne, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Rudyard Kipling etc stories will allow you to conceive of a passable bare plot, something that nuTrek seems to struggle with on the most basic level. They're trying to inject too much interpersonal character drama in the stories when the main focus should be on the plot and any character drama should be directly related to stuff that's happening.
And as I said tons of people are capable of writing high quality original speculative fiction. I'm like listening to Escape Artist podcasts, District of Wonders podcasts, drabblecast, etc and people are writing creative shit. They're just not being hired.
they very recently plagiarized LeGuin's "The Ones That Walk Away from Omelas" but this time the suffering child gets murdered and Starfleet just shrugs at it and says 'oh well'
What exactly did you expect Starfleet to do? This is showing that not all civs are ready to join the federation.
there's a whole splinter colony of non-child murderers? doing something more than saying welp and zooming away?
t. Chud
>What if family guy in space
no
It stopped being that less than halfway through the second season. Now it's grim as frick and you're lucky if there's even one joke per episode.
>if you yanked out the pop culture references
This shouldn't even need to be an issue. This is why I will never accept a Trek alternative or new Trek product. There is no replacement. Showrunners today are incapable of making it.
Why are we pretending this show is good
am I the only one who thinks Orville is taking itself a little *too* seriously this season?
yeah the jokes were cringe, but now that there are no jokes, it seems like the jokes were what was holding it down. Now it just seems like "TNG but not as good".
The jokes are what made it a different show.
Norm died
I feel the same way. The beauty of Orville was that it could laugh as star trek. But now Seth just wants his star trek.
So? Was he raped and murdered? Is his ghost lurking around saying "whoooo noooo moooorree jookkkess seeetthhh ittts hhhooooww I diiiieeeeedddd"
Seth didn't even say the "jar of pickles" line when he needed Tala to break down a door. 🙁
True
I want her to sit on my face
Fun show, I'll miss it.
