I'm gonna take your thread for a second and air out something that's been on my mind for a while.
This "Winning" culture... This "My side won, your side lost" nonsense, the need to believe that two things that aren't opposites nor enemies or competitors are somehow at odds with one another, to assign them to your very selfhood despite having no connection with them and their creation, directly associate them with your self worth and then claim victory based on arbitrary criteria. I think it's a result of a sense of worthlessness, people who have no skills, no real passions, nothing they can prove themselves with nor anything that drives them or any association with or loyalty to anything that truly matters in the world, feel the need to supplement their personal lack of accomplishments with those of others, or with arbitrary rules. Why do we play games? Why do we cheer when we win in a game of chess against another person? Because we worked hard, competes, tested our knowladge and ability, and ultimately succeeded in something that took effort. It's not just the act of winning that makes us happy. I could win every second of every day if I decide to play a game with myself wherein a "win" for every breath I take, games are made up and so are rules, and there's usually no reward. So I won, right? But then why aren't I happy? Because it's a worthless empty victory. I can do better, I don't need to set an arbitrary stage for me to win, I don't need to win an argument by making the other guy get bored and leave, or win a culture war by saying "See that guy who's winning? He's my guy, if he wins I win too- Yup he just won, I'M THE BEST!" Most of us would rather achieve something by our own merit, but many don't, or cannot, so they boil 'victory' down to nothingness to make themselves feel good.

Agreed. I have no love for Vivziepop, but personally caring whether or not she's commercial successful doesn't impact my life any more than it does hers, so threads like this are absolutely pointless and insanely pathetic.

While I agree with you, for shows like this, it's like validation after years of people mocking the project due to the creator, the animation, the designs, and things like that. All before the actual show ever came out, and now seeing it get a positive reception in spite of all the seething rage, it's understandable you want to flex that.
Not all hatred against this and Vivzie is unreasonable, there's a lot of dumb shit she's said and done, and her other show is cringe. But there's also some annoying obsessed people who got beaten the frick down by this success.

From what I hear, the series itself is a downgrade from the pilot.

Unironically, the plot of sinners trying to reform themselves to get into heaven was far more ambitious than the actual story. Which a lot of people predicted would be the case beforehand, but such is life.

          Anonymous

Not really, there's a lot from the series that people have enjoyed that's not in the pilot at all. Most of the popular characters now are exclusive to the show, not the pilot. Better songs too.

While it is a success, and I'll admit there are things in it I liked, the challenge is going to be if it can remain good. Being a decent work is somewhat easy. Either have and show an interesting idea or have a "Thing" that just draws people in(Primal is a good idea of the latter with its methodology). But when you hook people you need to keep them on and that can be harder than people realize. Mainly because most people don't think that far. They only have the initial idea and think that's enough for long lasting fame.
Vivizie might suffer from that soon if she's not careful, but I'll admit that her concept allows fro and easier continuatuon

Everyone who gets their own show in animation is.

Matt Groening? Dad knew Tracy Allman, little nepobaby.

Adam Reed? His mom worked on Space Ghost originally and with Disney as a colorist.

Seth MacFarlene? His dad invented a flavor for Baskin Robbins, had money out the wazoo growing up so he could afford RISD.

Pick a creator, they all started at the top and just fought it out with other creators. None of them worked their way up.

It was a different landscape then, but even Crumb I would say had connections. Can't say anything for Bakshi, but he might be the only exception to the rule.

Wouldn't you say that's what networking is? I've been trying to contact Myrkott so I can animate Masameer stuff.

                Anonymous

...ish? Because we can't quite call it networking in the sense that not everyone can get to certain levels, but there are plenty of examples of people "networking" where they got ahead without any prior relationship. Norman Reedus comes to mind who had no prior relationship but got in a party about how famous he was an was hired based on it. I think it might be though that every industry eventually becomes optimistically nepotistic given immediate learned behaviors and at worst incestuous, gatekeeping for a small family. But I ain't a sociologist, because sociologists are just introverted psychologists.

If I can't go through certain levels, then I might as well appeal to the lowest common denominator once or twice.

Short: even people usually not keen on anime or cartoon give it a try because it's so short

Available on prime: so easy access for most people

Designs: are unique compared to other cartoons available

Plot: the premise is very simple to understand

Competition: there's not much, or at all, competition for it. It's market is currently NOT saturated so it's easier for folks to gravitate to it

Character diversity: everyone has a character they can get behind. You like the goodies two shoes nice girl? There's one. You like mysterious and suspicious? You want tumblr wet dream, horny gay Character in abusive relationship that needs saving? Everyone has something

There’s characters that appeal to everyone
Normoid characters (Charlie, Sir Pentious, Husker, Lucifer)
      Tumblrina characters (Angel, Vaggie, Alastor)
      Cinemaphile characters (Adam, Lute, Vox)

I'd say Lucifer is more tumblr folks, what with his depression and whatnot, and Alastor is more normie

          Anonymous

Alastor is riding a fine line between tumblr and normie for me because he’s the asexual tumblr edgeman character but he’s also the show’s most popular character.
Lucifer seems more like everyone’s “literally me” character, a depressed do-gooder

            Anonymous

A lot of his tumblr status is outside the show itself. Him being a sexual isn't a thing in the show, outside one throwaway line, and even his edgy dexter serial killer part is not in the show yet. So the normies just see an interesting and complex character *when compared to the more simple and black and white motivations of most of the cast). Mystery man: he's witty, he acts cool and there's suspense over his true goals, but he's not flawless or too overpowered or mentally ill. It's not surprising normies love him too

Frick forgot to reply to the lucifer part

Lucifer has mental struggles, looks silly and acts way too pathetic. I think that's the sort of "twist" for the king of he'll that tumblr would lap up

Not that normies dislike him, but I just think tumblr would be much keener on him and his struggles

The sad truth is that lost people who spend all day online are in fact lonely and lack real friends. Like I get you’re saying they should get IRL friends but most of them can’t for a multitude of reasons and they use the internet to cope until it often consumes them.
