This show would have been 100 times better if Tony's mother and Doctor Melfi weren't in it at all.

Melfi yes
Livia no
I'm pretty sure her name is Dr Milfy.
Either way, she is essential to the story.
I disagree. That's part of what elevates it beyond just being another show about the mob.
No.
>not liking Melfi scenes
#1 way to spot a pleb, unironically
yup that right there
huge chunk of the show just disappears without her
Lol Melfi was a terrible therapist
that's the point in a way. the show is kind of blunt about this, with the other therapist characters calling her out, her ex husband as well.
Melfi starts to feel very superfluous about halfway through. Like she only existed to give the show an initial "hook" to get picked up before eventually just becoming a mafia crime drama.
The show would've been better if T fricked her, and she had an arc of spiraling into corruption and self-loathing.
Also, did Bracco actually show her breasts or was there a nudie double involved?
body double
I'm like 90% sure the psychiatry stuff got dropped because David Chase (who goes to therapy) realized it was a scam. It works out better though since the show became less ABOUT the therapy and more as a way to have natural soliloquies for Tony.
The show was cynical about therapy right from S1. The jungian dream interpretation is what stays as a theme throughout the show.
I WISH THE LORD WOULD TAKE ME NOW
So what, no frickin ziti now?
I think melfi's character was kind of fumbled as the show developed, but that's different than saying her character made the show worse.
The psychoanalysis themes run deep through every part of the story and that's why it's so interesting. It really is what makes the show what it is, and without that you just have a different show entirely. Almost every character has some kind of archetypical struggle drawn directly from psychoanalysis.
MY OWN ANON HATES ME
>This show would be better without the central premise
It went over your head.
I get it. So he drives a lincoln.
both those characters elevate the series as a depression kino
will we get the whole series in 4k?!
I think the mother for one season was perfect. I do wonder how it would have gone if the actress never died. They clearly wanted her to be one of the core characters in the show.
Janice tries to murder her. It's outright hinted at in 'do not resuscitate'.
A lot of the Melfi plots were annoying and contrived. Shit like her being raped or her family drama and whatever.
If she wasn't going to become Tony's mistress then they should have kept us away from her personal life since it was just time wasting melodrama
>if Tony's mother and Doctor Melfi weren't in it at all.
absolute AJ-pilled opinion
MILFi
what did they mean by this
The lynchian aspect of the sopranos is so fricking staggering whenever it becomes apparent. I don't know what chase was thinking, but I wouldn't change it.
Does anyone have a list of all the weird little moments, like Pussy's ghost appearing in a mirror at Livia's wake.
It’s so strange because outside the dream episodes, you’d never see it coming.
It’s so blink and you miss it like Paulie’s Mother Mary vision and pussys ghost it makes you question if it’s even happening
There's stuff that's Lynchian, but not in a "lolsorandom" way as well, like the shakedown scene from the pilot, the communion scene from college, both of the slow motion laughter shots. There is an immense whiplash between mob film homages and surrealism.
most disturbing moment in the series
If there's a fire use the stairs because elevators are dangerous.
>greatest work of American art ever created
>BUT IT COULD HAVE BEEN BEDDER IF IT HAD LESS STUFF IN IT
and this is why all critics should hang themselves for thinking they could ever create anything
