There not being a god is something no atheist feels sad about. It's liberating.

The only life after death you have to worry about is the reputation you leave behind in the memories of the living.

      >Religion used to be the opium of the people. To those suffering humiliation, pain, illness, and serfdom, religion promised the reward of an after life. But now, we are witnessing a transformation, a true opium of the people is the belief in nothingness after death, the huge solace, the huge comfort of thinking that for our betrayals, our greed, our cowardice, our murders, we are not going to be judged.

One of the things atheists miserably fail to understand for some reason is that religion doesn't just cover what happens to you after you die. It is, most importantly, about how you conduct yourself in life.

Literally the core tenant of Christianity is that we're all irredeemable sinners at the mercy of Jesus' forgiveness which is why every meth head posts "only god can judge me" on Facebook and every guilty husband just goes to confession. It's quite possibly the worst ideology for accountability. All of this is pointless. Morality requires your own strength of will regardless of what you believe.

I conduct myself in life as well if not better than any religious person I know. I don't cause trouble for others, I don't let people down, I always pay my own way, and I clean up my own mess (which I do everything to avoid creating in the first place wherever possible)

Tell me again why I would ever need religion?

i wish most people believe in god again, im an atheist, but i rather have christians and religious people than homosexuals and trannies roaming freely wtihout telling them that they're gonna rot in hell.

I think of religion as a way of instilling morals and togetherness and community in people.

But atheists think that's a bad thing for some reason.

I don't care if people believe. I just roll my eyes when writers are scornful toward Christians but put every other religion on a pedestal. I know the real reason but a person spouting that nonsense screams npc to me.

I grew up with evangelicals and had their shit shoved down my throat. I think it's for the better that people are turning away from them. Spirituality is good and all, but not required to be a decent person.

        >Spirituality is good and all, but not required to be a decent person.
I have adhd and high functioning autism, and I can't do shit without someone standing over me making me do it, a tool called body doubling.
I think if I more strongly believed in God that this wouldn't be a problem. He's always there. Having a community that also believes would reinforce that tenfold. And I wouldn't have to resort to this cheap fake community on Cinemaphile.
The strongest therapeutic technique is called Wise Mind where you connect with the higher power inside of you. It's still a secular version of a higher power, but it's completely necessary in DBT, one of the only really effective therapies that exists.

That's the experience most ex-evangelicals have. They turn away from Christianity because the adults forcing it on them are often abusive.

            >turn away from Christianity because the adults are forcing it on them
That’s a truly terrible argument. The philosophy of a preteen. I have no sympathy for any adult who feels this way.
