This was even more mentally handicapped than I thought it would be. It's like a 10yo got a massive budget to work with.

People try to use aliens (who are hiding in the clouds) as a kind of circus act, then the aliens turn on them. And trust me, the execution of the idea is as moronic as the idea itself. Just unbelievably stupid.
Aside from the idiotic concept, everything about the film is bland. The dialogue, the cinematography, everything.
I saw the movie, I thought it was mostly well executed. Also it's not that "aliens turn on them" it's a wild creature that doesn't really have an emotional connection and can snap at any moment. I think it's a cool idea through which the theme of how people often abandon all self-preservation instincts for the sake of spectacle and adrenaline.
Also I did not find the direction bland at all, great cinematography, interesting way the movie is structured.
I agree that the dialogue is quite bland and overall character work could've been better. There's also some questionable editing choices. But overall the things that I liked outweighed the flaws. Found the movie to be decent overall.
>industry standard
How is that industry standard? How you seen the bullshit Hollywood shits out? It was very well shot, especially that action bit in the end was very well done. And Peele has an interesting use of panning, he had that in previous films too, but I think it's most noticeable in Nope with the "sky panning" shots. The alien design was also quite cool. I know he possibly riffed it from an SCP entry, but he expanded on the idea but making it look like a UFO, which is an important part of the movie, and then having it "expand" into the weird looking thing.
>Also it's not that "aliens turn on them" it's a wild creature that doesn't really have an emotional connection and can snap at any moment.
I get it, dude. They literally spelled it out for the audience. I just didn't feel like going into it because it doesn't really matter. The exploration of this idea was surface-level.
The SFX were pretty good, I'll give you that.
I do agree that characters were mediocre. And it wouldn't be such an issue if he cut down on the talking. Peele obviously tried to balance between making a more formalist thing and a blockbuster. And it didn't work all. The film dragged at points. Peele thoughts his characters were way more interesting than they actually were. It wasn't too terrible but I get why someone would find that an issue.
Okay. It's just in so many threads about this movie people were actually not getting it. Somehow.
>And it wouldn't be such an issue if he cut down on the talking
Which ranges from knuckle-dragging Black-speak to pretentious. There wasn't a single good line in the film.
>Okay. It's just in so many threads about this movie people were actually not getting it.
Then they're either literally moronic or being willfully ignorant.
Pretty much everything is explained in plain language.
>sheeeit, homie tried to tame da apex predator, dawg. Muhfrickas are unpredictable, mane.
Monkey scene was good though
It's a movie about respecting nature and not tempting fate just for money or amusement. Literally a cautionary tale about the same carefree arrogance that killed those dipshit Richie riches at the bottom of the ocean.
It wasn't a great film, but it was nice to see a filmmaker give us an alien that isn't the same shit we've seen over and over again.
>It's a movie about respecting nature and...
We've already been over this. And like I said, all of this is explained in the film. There is precisely 0 ambiguity.
Cool monster, terrible execution.
Whatever you say, but I really liked it. Technically flawless film and I liked the geography of the place. The horror segments are great and I found it enjoyable how it became an adventure film near the end.
>Technically flawless film
Are you talking about the industry-standard cinematography by Christopher Nolan's cinematographer? I can't imagine you're referring to anything else.
Also the directing, the sound design, and the music, which always successfully accentuates the scenes. I found the themes of the film pretentious and uninteresting, and the characters empty (although the Yup line was interesting to me, but it was given less time than I would have liked), but that didn't stop me from enjoying it. I found this movie to be original and fresh.
How was it pretentious? I mean he didn't really make the themes too obvious, but that's not a bad thing. If you're not trying to present a theme in some special way, why make a movie?
I know for sure there's a scene from the Gordy sequence that was cut. Originally there was another fat Asian guy was was obsessed with the actress on the show. He goes to kill her, but arrives at the scene while Gordy is going insane and shoots Gordy dead instead. I think that was an overkill, it's good he removed that scene. But there are also scenes which I think could've helped, for example it seems there were more screentime for Holst (cinematographer guy) which were cut. I assume there was more of a setup for what he does in the last act in there.
His did the fat guy relate to the story at all? Wat
Anons consider anything that's not based off of a franchise to be pretentious. Yes they are literally that moronic.
>Also the directing, the sound design, and the music, which always successfully accentuates the scenes
Nothing stood out to me - at least not in a good way. I was actually laughing out loud at the slowed-and-"spooky" version of Sunglasses at Night.
Sure, it was original. I'm sure most 10 year olds could come up with a pretty original film if they were given free rein.
>I was actually laughing out loud at the slowed-and-"spooky" version of Sunglasses at Night
I mean Peele was a comedian, and both Get Out and Us had obvious comedy bits, I assume it was intentional. The whole Jupiter's Claim scene is by itself kinda funny. What happens is fricked up, but there's also a huge irony in how Jupe got so fricked up in the head by the Gordy incident he basically replicated it on a bigger scale by accident (the idea is that he decided that universe chose him for something after his encounter with Gordy, and when he encountered the creature he started feeding it horses, which made it stick to the territory which caused the events of the film).
Another theme of the movie is the theme of coincidences, lucky (a miracle) or unlucky (bad miracle). I assume that was there to add another layer to the coincidental nature of all that happened, but it would have been an overkill.
You can stop writing essays explaining the film, my friend. It's very easy to understand.
You give off a very stuffy atmosphere, my friend. Also, you have no right not to love what I love!
Sorry, I'm just in a foul mood today
> how it became an adventure film near the end.
??? What?
Adventurous Adventure. The cards were solved, the characters found a way to fight and began the hunt for the Denim Jacket. Also this chase scene. Apparently you're a very rational person and it's not how but what that matters to you, but I think differently. I really enjoyed the whole thing.
It was okay but it was too stop-and-go in its storytelling.
As if it was structured for a tv show then made into a movie instead.
>it was too stop-and-go in its storytelling
Yes, one of the many problems with it.
No flow whatsoever
I definitely need the director's version (I think it exists)
Maybe I'm crazy, but I fell in love with the mood of this poster and the first trailer and the movie totally lived up to my expectations. I'm not a fan of the director's past films, but something about this one clicked for me immediately.
Why would you even watch something called "nope"? Huge red flag.
it was a good twilight zone/black mirror episode
too long, but OK nevertheless
I'll never say it enough here - race doesn't matter
education does
