This. What is it with Hollywood and the fear of making content with a more serious tone? It's the apocalypse, you'd think things would be a bit serious. Capeshit has done more damage to cinema than anything else.
The kind of people who can write a serious post-apocalypse story probably don't want to have the stink of a "video game adaptation" attached to their name. The people working on this either see it as a safe paycheck and are just phoning it in, or are actually into the video game series (most likely moronic then, given what Bethesda did to it).
