People don't surf the north atlantic because it's cold as shit year round. Warm water flows north past europe into the arctic then swings back south. You can watch videos of people surfing there and everyone is in a full body suit.

Wipeout was intended to attract an audience of kids my age, at the time. I did like the teen drama stuff. Made me feel sophisticated and grown up.
