Thoughts on the new episode?

Kamalas new powers come from the NOON dimenson which is where the Djinn are from completely cutting out any ties to the inhumans/kree and seemingly no way out for her to get stretchy powers back

Eh, not a fan of making it all Oriental in origin, but the costume is nice and like said, the casting is pretty great.

I'm so glad they revealed Kamala's powers to Nakia this episode, it's good for the scooby squad to be in on it. Though it's a shame the show is already half over, so Nakia probably isn't going to get much more screen time. They're going to spend at least one (probably more) episodes in Karachi without the secondary cast, and then a lot of the final episode is probably going to focus on the bigger superhero stuff.

Would be cute if Nakia makes the Ms Marvel outfit for her though. Bruno did the mask, Nakia does the suit ... cute as frick.

This is the most depressing thing about the Disney Plus model. Loki got a confirmed S2, but it'll only come after She-Hulk, Secret Wars, and who knows how many others down the pipeline. We won't see Kamala until next year in a movie and then there probably won't be a S2 until at least a year after that.

White people are so racist despite thinking they are tolerant its insane. You can't have a non white character like her or black panther or Shang Chi or Falcon with his own show these days no everything has to center around their race. I don't even think War Machine ever made a big deal about his race but once you got Disney and white guilt homosexuals and their claws on this shit, non whites only personality is their race or religion.

      Anonymous

This is so true. But then blacks treat Black Panther like the second coming of Christ, AAs crow about 'finally' being represented by Shang Chi and probably now muslims are happy their lifestyles in a marvel production.

It's just a point scoring exercise and the end products are nothing special (though I did like the action in Shang Chi).

I thought the bangle was originally on a Kree's arm? So in a way Kamala's origin is still tied to a race connected to the Kree, just instead of Inhumans, it's islamic themed with the Djinn.

Djinn are evil spirits in Muslim religion.

This reminds me in the Arthurian Myth Merlin is a human-demon hybrid *because* of Christian censorship. The religious consensus at the time was that *acquired* magical powers could be only bestowed by God and otherwise could only come from deliberately consorting with evil, meanwhile *innate* magical powers were fairgame. So Merlin got retcon ed from wizard/druid to the child of a nun that got raped by an Incubus and the supernatural heritage is what gives him magic powers

Are you moronic? Djinn aren't from Islam. They're general Arab folklore, like elves or dragons are across Europe. Complaining about this is like complaining about Captain Britain having a connection to Excalibur.

That said, the thing was literally on a fricking alien, so it's likely that the characters' understandings of what's going on is limited. The 'djinn' are probably ayys being filtered through an earthly culture's understanding of the world.

No, but neither does Kamala. Hell, even her family scenes don't do this - her being Pakistani has far more influence in regard to how her parents and her relationship to them is portrayed - which isn't any more prevalent than the cultural ticks you see in all such scenes, it's just not a culture you like seeing. Why is it a problem for her parents to be sort of stereotypical cloying Pakistani Muslim parents, and not a problem for, say, Aunt May to be a sort of stereotypical elderly white Christian parent?

Does it really irk you so much that a character is occasionally seen in a mosque rather than a church?

It's a regional term used by people roughly from that region. If she was Irish it'd be Fey. If she was Far Eastern it'd be any number of capricious spirits. But she's Middle-Eastern so Djinn.

Reading through a lot of the details noticed online, it seems like the Djinn stuff might be a misdirection that only relates to Kamran and his group. There is still a lot of Kree stuff being related to Kamala and the bangle (the bangle was found on a severed blue arm, one of the songs that played during that scene was from a Kree-based episode of Agents of Shield, the speculation is that Captain Marvel might show up by the end to generate the power needed to send the Djinn folk home, etc). I guess the speculation would be that Kamala is both part Djinn and Kree, or that Kamala is actually related to a Kree that was trying to help the Djinn get home all those decades ago? It wouldn't be too surprising if the Djinn group was lying about some of the details to Kamala ... which would partly explain the trip to Karachi? Why would the plot need her to go if she already knew the details about what was going on?

I guess I just don't know how many layers "deep" we should expect the show to go with this sort of stuff. It's easy to imagine the fandom just grasping at straws while the show is just putting it all out plainly.

        Anonymous

Since MCU Phase 4 is all about multiverse stuff, I'd lean towards the Djinn folk telling the truth. But it does seems a tad too convenient. That said, I wouldn't be surprised, particularly because of the blue arm, if it tagged back into the Kree/Skrull conflict to tie Ms Marvel to Captain Marvel.

          Anonymous

Oh, I get the impression that the Djinn folk are telling the truth about themselves, especially given that we saw them talking about it among themselves while Kamala wasn't there. I'm just not sure if they're telling the truth (or the full truth?) about Kamala's relation to them. At the very least, it seems like there is a Kree connection somewhere in there, even if she doesn't end up being related to one.

That said, it makes some sense for Kamala to have a relation to another dimension/universe, given that comic-Kamala's powers work explicitly through the multiverse (she borrows/exchanges mass with other versions of herself). I guess it'd be weird to introduce a multiverse-linked character during the multiverse arc, but not have her do anything with the multiverse.

It's all a misdirect. The Djinn bullshit will be revealed to be another rogue Inhuman faction, similar to Jiaying's group, but they call themselves Djinn for some idiotic reason. Djinn are Inhumans, Inhumans are Djinn.

The problem I have with this is that they spent an entire season meandering about with regards to Kamala's origins and gave a fake reveal, rather than just starting with the Inhuman backstory from the beginning. It's a dumb and ultimately pointless diversion

Inaccurate on many levels and there's many heroes like that as mentioned.

        Dante is a popular one.

Does anyone think Bruno is cute? Also I have to say, I'm not too impressed by the villains in the MCU Disney+ shows. We're supposed to believe these guys are big deals, but all they do is just punch and kick. Flag Smashers are supposedly a terrorist group that can bring any government to their knees, but what do they do? Just punch. The Destine are multidimensional beings with the power to "kill everyone here," but what do they do? Just punch. The TVA are the highest authority in the multiverse, able to vaporize entire universes, but what do they do? They swing around a baton.

With the exception of Agatha (who even then was reduced to just shooting energy blasts), why is Marvel so afraid of making the Disney+ villains actually have powers? Are only movie villains allowed to do things beyond just punching and kicking? And why is Bruno so darn cute?

They aren't invested in the villains. The villains are there just to lose. They don't want to waste money on something that isn't going to show a return. Why pay so much money animating them when you're just going to throw them away? It's a bad investment.

This is a money game and everything else is just an illusion.

Worst and most boring episode so far. Pretty dumb how they made Kamala a Djinn and involved interdimensional stuff. Still think that they might be building up for an Inhumans and Kree angle/reveal, seeing as the dead Djinn was blue, and that the change of Kamala from an Inhuman to a magical extradimensional being seems unneccessary

I assumed it'd be something like this. We're not getting the Inhumans, and that was the worst part of Kamala's origin, serving only to get her mixed up in dumb series-derailing tie-ins, so there's no real point being salty about it.

Kinda funny that it's a djinn thing though. Islam explicitly forbids calling upon the djinn for help, so technically, whenever a Muslim asks Ms. Marvel for help now, they are being extremely haram.

From a leak earlier, it sounded like the enemies this season would be some sort of pro-Inhuman faction looking to release Terrigen.

Yes they obviously are. If not Black Bolt wouldn't be in MoM. Mark my words, the "Djinn" are going to be revealed as a Kree experiment by the end of this show. The Marvels movie is going to be about Carol and Kamala dealing with the Kree, and meeting more Inhumans, possible the royal family.

I've marked your words, but I am not so sure you are correct. They could go any which way with this.

There's already been a few subtle hints. The armband awakening a "power" that was already inside of Kamala, and which Bruno could detect with tech(aka not magic). Why would Kamala need the armband to awaken her power if she was a Djinn? Probably terrigen mist of some sort.

Also the blue corpse which had the armband in the 40s. Almost definitely a Kree, unless the Djinn are naturally blue, but then why isn't Kamala and her family?

              Anonymous

Both in the MCU and in the comics there are Kree with different skin colors including human pink, and these sometimes lived on Earth in incognito because they could pass as Humans

          Anonymous

I think the djinn will definitely be some kind of way people in ye olde days contextualized ayys, but I still don't think we'll get Inhumans in this universe. Especially not since Kamala being an Inhuman was part of a widely disliked and mostly tossed aside plot that only existed to try to replace the X-Men for movie rights purposes - and now the X-Men are coming to the MCU, making the whole Nuhumans thing pointless.

Shit will be way too cluttered with three alien manipulated human offshoots around. It's just clunky to have the mutants and the inhumans AND the Eternals and try to make them all relevant at once. Unless that's the theme they want to go for for the next phase.

            >Shit will be way too cluttered with three alien manipulated human offshoots around.
Nah, I think they can make it work if they have their own uniqueness, and we technically already have all 3 with Black Bolt in MoM. I don't think we will get earth-wide nuhumans, just a few like Kamala, and the Royal family. No giant terrigen cloud going around the world, but certain individuals being subjected to it, like Kamala and possibly Quake. Mutants will be the only offshoot numbering in the millions for example.

What would we actually want from a Ms Marvel Kamala Khan videogame?

    [...]

      Anonymous

We don't want it. What I want is an expensive Iron Man game done by a big company, in which you can unlock dozens of different suits, upgrade them and your weaponry, and you'd have to pick a suit, and pick weaponry, depending on which environment you're going to, and which supervillains or tech you're expecting to fight. I'd imagine the game as half fighting action, and half "detective-ish", where you're going to have to travel to and investigate certain areas for clues, objects, or foes for the story. You'd have to know which tech or weaponry to use to discover some of these clues, or reach new areas of the map. I imagine you'd have to go deep undersea perhaps Atlantis, deep into lava, the Savage Land, the Moon, and underground facilities etc. If you're fighting Namor you need the underwater armor. If you're fighting Juggernaut you need the Hulkbuster, which gives you more power but less speed. If you're fighting Baron Mordo maybe you need to visit Doctor Strange to enchant your armor etc

I love it. It was a really fun episode, but alot of stuff they've opened up for things. The opening clearly set things up because of the 10 Rings symbol showing. Meaning it could be the cave Wenwu got his rings from, since the movie itself did mention him getting the rings from a cave. This could also tie-in with the mid credit were Carol appeared as she, Bruce, & Wong saw the rings emit a signal. Which may explain why Carol left earth

The severed arm is clearly a Kree. Meaning they are keeping that part for the Inhuman connection, but would likely change things considering how the Inhuman TV series went. So it's possible the bangle could be the Nega bands since they mentioned a second one

The Noor dimension is an interesting one. Maybe it could be translated into something else, because the way they describe it almost sounds like Attilan. The Inhuman city

They may likely change things. Possibly to tie into the upcoming Avengers event since Doctor Strange 2 mentions the incursion, & both the bangle & the rings with play into it

I just don't like how the exiled Djinn took stupid pills because anyone who wants to change the status quo must do so in the most impatient and destructive manner possible

A lot of the drama/conflicts rides on Kamala being a dumbass teenager. It kinda sucks.

      >can you help us
      >sure just give me enough time to make sure i can do it safely
      >FRICK you time to kill everyone you love
I don't blame Kamala for the Djinni flipping their shit after waiting a whole 24 hours

All I wanna say about this episode is they have no idea of how to create tension. The whole action sequence after the wedding scene was terrible, and not just from the choreography.
Also the villains turned way too abruptly.
    >Kamala, can you help us with this?
    >Sure, just gimme a little time
    >TIME TO KILL EVERYONE

You would think people that have been alive for hundreds of years would have patience

      yeah, that was very stupid
I'm enjoying the slice of life of this show more than anything though.

This show has been more fun when Kamala is interacting and dealing with her family and classmates, being a nerd, being in love, discovering herself, etc. The capeshit feel incidental.

I liked the fight scene and as for their turn it made sense to me. People seem to ignore the actual thing the Mom was angry about she's angry that Kamala found out it's dangerous.

They wanted Kamala to be ignorant but once they found out she knew it was dangerous they knew they had to force her since the Djinn believe there is no safe way it's not about patience at all. Not to mention this is clearly why they split up from Aisha.

So the white people did it again? They probably applauded themselves at how amazingly "diverse" and "woke" the episode was gonna be.

Probably thought they were gonna get awards, absolute gushing love from the Muslim community.

I might be wrong but I thought a major thing about Kamala's conception was that her powers and origin story weren't linked to her heritage? Like one of the reasons for making Kamala was to make a hero of color that wasn't tied to their ethnic background. Like how all the Japanese heroes are samurai and ninjas or all the Egyptian heroes are linked with Egyptian Gods etc. It was to normalize a Muslim hero by showing her Muslim background as just part of everyday life, and giving her an origin and powerset that anyone could have, white, black, brown or otherwise, to help show that they're just like everyone else. So that Muslim finally have a representation of a hero that is like, just an ordinary hero, like a Peter Parker type, and isn't thematically a muslim hero.

Doesn't making her a Djinn not only undo that, but is the exact opposite of that initial ethos?

      No.
Her power origin was considered irredeemably fricking stupid and her powerset unmarketable to 99.9% of normie girls.

Even then the characters popularity was yotally contrived and its absolutely failure to take hold ever e poses it.

This is the second ms marvel show and it's bombing.

Stop acting like Inhumans have always been universally hated. Inhumans have been loved for years. The only thing people didn't like was the push for Nuhumans to replace mutants as the de facto human off-shoot race across the world. No one has had problem with Kamala being an Inhuman

    >Disney considers it to be so shameful and pathetic to be a 30 year old NEET living in your parents house that they had to retcon it as having Aamir be in grad school
    Haha.... thanks Disney.

still thinking they are all extremely stupid: just make her MCU Quasar if you don't want to give her stretchy powers!
It's the perfect alternative, given Quasar even started as Marvel Boy!

The Djinn were so fricking stupid. You'd think after spending so many years hiding among humans and calling themselves "Clandestine" that they'd be a little more patient and subtle. I hope Damage Control dissects them.

Just watched the third episode. So I guess the blue arm is probably a Kree. I doubt it's actually like an actual Aladdin Genie or something.

Bruno is based. There's a fat girl as a background character, I really hope they just skip Bruno dating her and the whole wheelchair arc.

Bruno is cute, but he doesn't feel like his comic book character at all. But none of the characters really feel like their comics equivalent, so I guess that's fine.
