the chinese tv show is just filler and promos for chinese singers, you could cut out 80% of the runtime and not lose a single moment of character, plot, or thematic development

            >I didn't just remove material added by Tencent, I also removed scenes written by Liu Cixin himself. No 100% faithful adapatation exists, as Tencent didn't include some scenes either. But I think 6 hours is an optimal balance for the most engrossing video adaptation possible.

Lmao. Basically "Americans don't want to read subtitles for 22 hours, so I cut it down to 30% so it's more digestible".

Yea the Chinese show was so painfully slow. It's also a language that I can't stand like many others. Japanese okay. Euro languages or romance trinity fine.

When China isolated itself from the world due to hubris, and European powers barged into their lands/waters, the Chinese still thought they spoke Latin, as though the Roman Empire were still around—they just assumed westerners would be as slow/unchanging as they are.

Chinese are slow, but are obsessed with catching up and copying their superiors, not sure why. Deep down I think they hate themselves but also think they should be on top. Typical Han.

The century of humiliation did a number on them, and then fricking communism happened, ripping apart their culture irreparably.

And to be fair, the white man IS overly ambitious.

you don't have a defense of course because the books are terribly written sloppy wet turds pushed out the maw of a chinese moron who's prose can only be classified as barely above a modern journalist writing articles for the special interest section of a newspaper. I tried reading the book after all the hype, I got pretty far but it was just hard for me to continue because I am somewhat familiar with these concepts in physics and to me it felt like putting in the "babbys first physics facts" together and writing a book about it, like the writer would read reddit facts and then decide to write a story around them.

The second and much bigger point is that I just could not fricking buy the VR spacesuits, they were so out of place in the story, I would have much rather them have some experimental drug that gives you DMT trip that takes you into this world than having rural chinese people booting up windows 98 and putting on a swimsuit to be able to play a fricking MMO game, I dunno, I just could not get over it.

Is it really good? Should I give it another chance and go further? I really love sci fi stuff and would love to love this book like everyone else but I couldnt on my first try.

The author's a boomer, and I don't think he understands or cares enough about how people enjoy video games to try to make the hardware in the book seem like a real consumer product. If it makes you feel better, I think there is a line somewhere in it that says most of the people who play the game are academics, and not Chinese bumpkins.
The second half of the first book has some more novel ideas in it, and I think The Dark Forest is basically everyone's favorite of the three books.

I'm not sure about that, even. I think the reviewers will just scramble to justify Cheng Xin's actions, and probably come up with something like Guan Yifan says to her near the end. Things like Cheng Xin's internal thoughts about the consequences of the feminization of society probably won't make it into the show.

theres one scene that has the potential to be extremely gory and fricked up near the end of the first book. I am sure when the directors of this show read that part they were jumping up and down with glee, you can just tell they want to make this series into a bloodbath

Is funny how Netflix defends the difference between art and the writer when it came to these books despite the author being ok with concentration camps and forced sterilization.

    >the Chinese novelist was asked about the mass internment of Muslim Uighurs in Xinjiang.

    >“Would you rather that they be hacking away at bodies at train stations and schools in terrorist attacks? If anything, the government is helping their economy and trying to lift them out of poverty,” Liu said, adding: “If you were to loosen up the country a bit, the consequences would be terrifying.”

Sure the Chinese version drags on, but it's got a simple sincerity to it that's absolutely missing in the West. There's no pretension or tryhard writers injecting their spin of events or acting as the judge of what can be adapted and what must be skipped. The tencent adaptation was faithful to a T, and the cast was S tier for the main characters as well. That alone makes it 1000000x better than any other adaptation can possibly be, especially this Turdflix one.
