Good video. He finally admits the franchise is on the right track with people who understand its premise. Name drops New Vegas as an embarrassing failure in particular.
Who cares. He caught lightning in a bottle one time and then went on to make a bunch of slop like Reddit Worlds. Fallout 1 is the product of a collaborative effort.
He also haven't made anything good since F1 and wasn't even involved with NV, so it kinda makes you question if F1 being good is even his merit to begin with. Just like with Kojimbo.
yeah. he's not half as clever as he thinks he is, that's plenty clear when you look at what shit games he's made and what he says in his videos.
He also haven't made anything good since F1 and wasn't even involved with NV, so it kinda makes you question if F1 being good is even his merit to begin with. Just like with Kojimbo.
Like most media the game were a group effort. A person can have a good idea but it take others to make sure it doesn't go off the rails. Like star wars.
It was. He even talked about it a bit in one of his videos. He mentioned how he and Leonard Boyarsky would argue with "raised voices" which was just how they got things done, but other developers at Obsidian would kinda hide and say how it made them uncomfortable. Kek.
It's not stunning at all. In my experience homosexuals are no different than me. Of course they can decide to act butthurt and ruin someone's day but only a minority of them will do that.
The creative drive is partly the sublimation of the sexual and physical urges felt at the prime of life which is why so many young creatives will innovate but stagnate with age. Tim Cain in particular is retired and if he had his hands on Fallout today it would not be the Fallout you remember
The guy who made Deus Ex didnt do anything of note after either.
Todd Howard was behind Morrowind, but also lead Bethesda to sell out and make rehashed slop for the next 20 years.
Fallout setting looks cool as hell while Outer Worlds looks gay as hell not worth trying out in the first place. If a gamer tried Outer Worlds for any other reason than "the fonv kotor2 guys made this" then I fart in his general direction
They don't really look that different though?
Fallout (and pretty much most games) is heavily influenced by whatever was popular at the time. The game humor is heavily influenced by Sierra/Lucasarts adventure games. The graphics were heavily inspired by games like Myst, which is why it has that ugly static rendered aspect where all the small details blend into everything.
Fallout was a low budget game that sat in the bargain bin and was mostly forgotten about until a large studio swooped in and decided to franchise it. Before that happened, the number of people that cared about that series was pretty small.
I'm not saying Fallout 1 was bad; it obviously did well enough for a sequel to be made. A lot of 90s games that are hidden gems were like that. Take Blood for example. The difference is nobody is throwing israeli money at Blood to turn it into a consumer franchise of overdeveloped mediocre installments and a TV series.
But at the time these games were released, they weren't massively popular. The RPG market for PC was more or less stagnant with more focus and better sales on consoles. People were more likely to have heard of Ultima Online than Fallout.

Fallout did not invent retro-futurism. It seems like you have some difficulty understanding what the word copy means.
When game is widely popular and successful, a lot of low-budget clones will be created by competing companies trying to cash in on that wave. For example, after Super Mario came out there were countless platforming games, even some that blatantly copied level design and style. This didn't happen with Fallout simply because it was not successful enough. Interplay still went out of business.
I'm not saying Fallout was a bad game or disliked at the time of it's release. But the only people that knew about it were ones that were paying attention to PC rpgs at the time.

They don't really look that different though?

as far as video games, lead devs/writers/directors peak in their late 20s and early 30s. it isn't like writing novels where years of experience improves your craft, because a big part of designing games comes from youthful, high energy ambition where you're concerned mostly about what's "cool" with no self-conscious baggage attached
Tim Cain explicitly stated Bethesda's lore made no sense. He's an old homosexual and likes money. Plus he said he didn't even pay attention to it and just watched the props.
>he said the opposite in his "why i left fallout 2" vid
Yeah because he's a psycho social ladder climber who wants to look good, but he still let this one slip.
Just watch this, typical "eat shit from people above, take shits on people below" loser:

This fat gay frick has refused to comment on literally anything and suddenly he is talking about the tv series? What repeating boring tales about how much of a c**t he must of been to work with?
