to this day i dont see what everyone so vehemently hated about this that wasn't already present in TFA and made worse in RoS. its at the very least an entertaining popcorn flick. a decent follow-up to a fairly lackluster start to a trilogy. people who act like RoS was shit because JJ Abrahms didn't know what to with Rian Johnsons script are full of shit, Johnson is clearly the better screenwriter
(this isnt me defending the triology as a warning in advance for those with shit reading comprehension
just stop already, reylogay. you fail each time anyway.
>safe retread of a new hope promises lots of mysteries to be elaborated on in the sequel
>SIKE, none of that shit matters, here's some dumb capitalism bad metaphor involving space horses and a slow speed space chase.
Those elements may have been present in TFA, but they were much more out in the open and dwelt on for longer in TLJ so the greater backlash is understandable. Still, all three are absolutely vile and deserve nothing but contempt
I always preferred bad movies that are someone's vision vs decent movies that are assembled according to corporate notes and focus group results.
For this reason, I enjoy TLJ a lot more than TFA and RotS.
I agree completely, well said
I agree completely, except TLJ was a jumbled mess devoid of vision.
>devoid of vision
>t. brainlet youtuber fanboy
I agree but Rian's "vision" (if you could even call it that) was "how many elements of Star Wars can I subvert"? Doing the opposite of everything is barely a step above copying everything like TFA did.
Because people were hoping snoke would be Plaeguis or something special and they killed him off unceremoniously. Kylo doesn’t have a rematch with Rey. Luke doesn’t do anything cool combat wise okay he projects himself then just dies barely got to see him do anything then he dies. I could go on but frick it
>i dont see what everyone so vehemently hated about this
Youtube and reddit aren't everyone.
And they hated that it didn't cater to them.
We hate TLJ more because it half the movie could have gone somewhere but still decides to end up where we were at the start of TFA
ROS nobody with brain cells cared about, it was more comical but as a result couldn't be taken seriously enough to hate as much
It was kino, plebs gonna plebs
>movie ends up at the previous status quo regarding jedi heroism when it spent half its runtime critiquing that status quo
>spent half its runtime critiquing that status quo
>t. Star Wars fanboy too stupid to understand a simple message because he sympathizes with the antagonist
no dumbass, i'm talking about Luke's stance against dogmatic light vs dark side thinking
>i'm talking about Luke's stance
You mean the stance that he changed after a pretty elaborate talk with Yoda that literally spelled out the whole theme of the film for the sake of people like you?
yep, I missed that, sorry
that's the point i'm making
Luke starts off the movie by subverting the previously established status quo by having Luke be a jaded potato but instead of committing to it, Yoda shoots some books to hamfist a bridge between Luke's opposition to dogmatic thinking with him still doing the exact same shit he was doing in the past with saving the day and all
Stop talking to him. He's that one moron who'd been autistically screeching about TLJ since fricking 2017. He doesn't care what you say. He's not arguing in good faith.
So the point you're making is that by undergoing a chance, Luke ends up at the status quo? Maybe you don't know what "status quo" means ...
It's still just not very good. Luke's motivations make no sense. Poe learns a lesson about how he should listen to his betters and that haste makes waste but the only reason his plan didn't work is because Finn and Rose didn't do what they were supposed to do. Rian Johnson forgot the Knights of Ren existed. Holdo's master plan is to drift lazily through space and abandon ship to a nearby base, something considered so clever the empire couldn't see it coming. They cut an excellent scene with Finn and Phasma and replace it with BB-8 bullshit.
I could go on, but the movie's been talked to death. Rian Johnson isn't smart for aping KotoR's Jedi discourse.
Can't believe they didn't just radio another fricking ship to warp in front of them and cut them off
it's the laziest attempt at making a star wars film
>first boring quarter of the movie is luke playing a grumpy version of yoda
>next quarter is finn, rose and that narcos guy going to a casino with zero chemistry
>third quarter a strong, evil character is killed off like kylo swatted a fly like WTF?
>last quarter of the film literally plagiarizes escape from los angeles of all fricking things and includes the worst lightsaber duel of all time
first disney ignored lucas's suggestion for a story arc in the force awakens. then they allowed rian to ignore abram's movie completely and create his own lackluster vision. then they re-employed abrams to obviously save the shitfest that was TLJ, but even a movie as decent as TRoS couldn't make one forgive that turd of a movie that was TLJ. yes, i said it. TRoS was literally the best nu-sequel in my opinion but that's obviously not saying much
>TRoS was literally the best nu-sequel in my opinion
As if anyone needed more proof that your opinion is utterly worthless.
why? TFA was an unoriginal knock-off of ANH. TLJ was written by someone who hated TFA, tried to improve it, but made it worse. TROS was the best example of damage control in a movie franchise sequel i've ever seen. not only is it the most visually impressive of all the nu-sequels, it didn't ignore TLJ, although i'm sure JJ wanted to lol (you can tell he tried to keep rose in it at a bare minimum) and it wrapped up the nu-sequels as best as possible. i felt good after seeing it like i did after seeing RoTJ for the first time as i expected to. the only thing i was upset about is that i wanted to see "chrome dome' one last time because it would've been the perfect running joke
>made it worse
Only complete morons with no knowledge of either storytelling or filmmaking think so.
>not only is it the most visually impressive of all the nu-sequels
Case in point. You have no idea what you're talking about. It looked like shit, and has by far the worst cinematography of the three sequels.
>i felt good after seeing it
Good for you.
>knowledge of storytelling or filmmaking
i'm sorry your parents raised you on shit movies like big daddy to make you feel this way
>worst cinematography
cinematography was great. the editing felt like abrams was trying to mimic mr. arkadin-era welles, neither great nor terrible
>then they allowed rian to ignore abram's movie completely and create his own lackluster vision
it was literally Lucas' vision, and a great star wars movie in his words
>it was literally Lucas' vision, and a great star wars movie in his [HEADCANON]
ftfy
?
The point was, explicitly: frick your lack of commitment, if you're going to burn the texts, burn them already.
Great, now that's done, are you going to stop your inaction and act already? Yes the world is a complex place but he should get off his ass and at least try instead of >much jedi >much ideals
Same as how you're posting on Cinemaphile instead of living your life
Why didn't Yoda just kill Palpatine with ghost lightning?
It only worked on that island
Where do they say that?
Lmao
So it's just your headcanon. OK.
Did any force ghost use lighting outside that island, or is that your headcanon?
So it's nowhere said that it works only on the island. OK.
Maybe it's said somewhere is some book. I don't know, OK?
So it's just your headcanon then. LMAO
samegay
moron
TFA was shit, bit it held the foor oprn for potential good things in the future. TLJ was shit and made us realise nothing good is comming ever again
>held the foor oprn
Food porn?
Door open. He's wrong though.
If finding Luke was so important, why send Rey who has know the rebels for a few hours?
the same as literal boomers hating mission impossible 1.
>y-you made muh favrit character a baddie i hate u
Nolan makes movies for midwits who want to feel like they're smart.
TLJ is a movie for total morons who want to feel like they're smart.
That being said, episodes 7 and 9 are also shit.
>Have Ben turn because Luke thought he could "fix him" instead of properly having him reject the dark side
>Make Rose a FO spy that hides her sabotage behind good ideals and goodwill
>Put some exposition lines to give an outline about Snoke other than "Why did you ask frick you"
>Turn the Canto Blight scene into an SOS mission where the party has to ask for support and reinforcements from an unwilling ally
>Put some hints that the Holdo manuever requires fricktons of setup to be properly pulled off
>Make Holdo a better general with an actual communication strategy, even if she doesn't reveal the plan
The worst thing about TLJ is that it was so close to being good
Shitting and burning down every setup from TFA and refusing to provide any way to progress surely didn't help
i walked out of the TFA utterly dumbfounded and went into TLJ expecting to hate it (and couldn't even believe how bad it ended up being). you're right, the entire trilogy sucked from the word go
Even its better ideas fall apart in the context of Star Wars lore and continuity.
