What, you want another overly optimistic girl again
system makes no sense
magic is nonsense

Super cute. A shame it got canned.
If you scroll it really fast is almost like a flipbook.
You can use the arrow keys to advance page by page.
>the cat talks instead of being a non-verbal physical character
>the girl dreams of learning magic and she's quirky and klutzy
This is just a more boring version of The Owl House. I can see why it was cancelled, there's nothing to do here other than aping Little Witch Academia again. Also
>leaked
This was 100% posted by Faust or one of her associates, the same way Deadpool's test footage was "leaked".
>the cat talks instead of being a non-verbal physical character
>the girl dreams of learning magic and she's quirky and klutzy
You sound like a mouth breathing moronic weeb. This kind of trait isn't special to Little Witch which apes The Worst Witch. They're all good in their own right, stop with the tribegayging nonsense.
It's not tribalgayging, the pitch just looks fricking boring. Imagine how much more interesting it could've been if the cat was an actual cat, like Miyazaki's Jiji. And if the protag was something other than a dumb wide-eyed optimist who believes in the magic of... magic.
It was done before, and it was done well enough. Faust of all people should know better than writing this trite. I am disappointed, because the designs promised much more.
Jiji does speak for most of the film, though.
It doesn't seem so wise to be pitching another magic-based series as the Harry Potter kiddies are old enough to pitch that shit en masse.
>Jiji does speak for most of the film, though.
I was thinking about the times he acts like a real cat, with no dialogue. Those were very memorable.
>It doesn't seem so wise to be pitching another magic-based series as the Harry Potter kiddies are old enough to pitch that shit en masse.
Magic is an evergreen topic, kids always loved it and will love it. But because of that, a ton of it has been done to death before. What I expected here was a story about an actual witch, not another apprentice who doesn't know anything. Maybe even a picaresque story with a witch who is a bit of a villain.
But no, this was just another "a girl and her talking animal companion go to the magic place to learn magic and meet a cast of very diverse and quirky characters". Bleh, let it stay cancelled.
Anon, the show is clearly about the two of them, why is it an issue if the cat talks? The way Kiki develops with Jiji is unique to that story and completely unrelated (not to mention he speaks for a majority of his screen time), so I'm not sure why you brought this up.
>And if the protag was something other than a dumb wide-eyed optimist who believes in the magic of... magic.
The storyboard and pitch mention how they're doing it to get rich.
>Anon, the show is clearly about the two of them, why is it an issue if the cat talks?
Because that could be a great challenge. It's easy to have a talking companion, every magical girl under the sun has one. But a mute one - that's a different story. That's where you could really flex the strength of animation as a medium.
If the animal doesn't speak, then it's effectively a pet, and focusing on it would only take away from the plot of a magical girl trying to learn magic. This isn't HTTYD where the non-speaking animal companion is essential to the flick.
No need to focus on it, just make it a character who doesn't speak, and communicates exclusively in expressions and movement. Less like HTTYD, more like Pikachu. Would've been fun, I think.
I have to agree here, is anything the animation of a non verbal can be extremely cute if exaggerated
It beats mouth flaps and an occasional expression change, but what do I know I'm just a consumer the silly creature talking is such a toyetic thing that I can't argue with the people that want to sell plushies
>if it doesn't speak it's just a pet
nah that's bullshit. the other anon is correct about using animation as a medium. yes language is a HUGE part of sentience and sapience, it isn't the only qualification
>But a mute one - that's a different story. That's where you could really flex the strength of animation as a medium.
I mean, that's usually what you find with the "a boy and his (insert whatever creature here)" trope. I can't see the familiar behaving as a normal cat being particularly interesting or "flexing the strength of animation" if I'm being honest here. With Kiki and Jiji it was great because of what it represented with her growing up and finding real people to talk to rather than her cat. Jiji sort of just disappears afterwards and does his own thing, it's not like he could do much. With Toil & Trouble, the familiar is suppose to teach their witch magic but Trouble seems to suck at that looking at the storyboard.
>I can't see the familiar behaving as a normal cat being particularly interesting or "flexing the strength of animation" if I'm being honest here
Maybe not a normal cat, but a cartoon cat. When I look at him, I see a very expressive design. He can bend in all kinds of ways, he has a huge face and large eyes, his tail is very unique. You can do anything with him. But I know that all of this potential would've went unused, because he would've just sat there and talked most of the time, like in the OP post storyboard.
Would the challenge still remain if it was a cartoon cat? Since they seem to use hexes it could just draw out what she needs to do (or with words) and if not, playing charades for comedy sounds like it would get pretty old fast.
>a
Pretty much this. They're meant be more like two halves of a whole relationship, hence the name Toil and Trouble. The show also looked like it would've had a pretty large cast of characters, and having to set aside time to have the cat communicate, could've ended up eating up time that could've been spent elsewhere in a storyline.
Eventually he'd just end up getting lost amongst cast members who could do what he does, with the added benefit of being able to communicate more clearly.
The boilerplate "witch and her familiar" setup is played out and the cheap way to revitalize it is some gimmick.
>cat can't talk, may not be a familiar, girl maybe just crazy if magic isn't expressly shown to be real etc.
>cat can't talk, tone and responses come from looks and actions because quirky
>cat is a stuffed animal or something, entirely projection by cracked character who may or may not actually be magic
etc.
The whole idea of "a witch that's green and a cat that can talk... do stuff" is so obscenely cookie cutter the only reason it got this much attention was fausts name. Maybe netflix sanitized it into this and somehow the OG napkin sketches speak to a unique take on the formula, but it's unlikely. Witch girl does things with all the subversions and gimmicks to the template was already attempted, also failed, and only Cinemaphile bothers to remember.
>The boilerplate "witch and her familiar" setup is played out and the cheap way to revitalize it is some gimmick.
It all depends on the execution of the story anon. LWA isn't all that unique doing the same shit you see in other series but the reason why it's liked is because of how those ideas played out. Also, the kind of ideas you brought up are for a comedic setting which this show doesn't seem to mainly be.
Probably not since she still has the rights and material (besides the art), and did she abandon Galaxy Girls? She made redesigns sometime ago, I'll bet she's still refining it but keeping it on the backburner or something.
>cartoon witch show
>not a light comedy
I reiterate how Faust's name is the only thing that kept this on a desk instead of in the trash bin below it for this long
>and did she abandon Galaxy Girls
She absolutely did. Brought it up like it was her big personal project post-horseshow, and nothing.
Hopefully Faust isn't capable of being as obnoxious as Owl House.
>This was 100% posted by Faust or one of her associates, the same way Deadpool's test footage was "leaked".
But that does describe a leak. I imagine most leaks are done because the leaker has some interest like that./
>Magical girl show
>The magical companion speaks
Go watch Primal.
>This is just a more boring version of The Owl House.
The Owl House is the boring version of The Owl House.
>the cat talks instead of being a non-verbal physical character
if talking animal pisses you off this much, you might be on a wrong board
>Jiji literally speaks for most of the film
>But... but... I was thinking about the times he acts like a real cat, with no dialogue!
lol frick off

Wait, so these characters were not designed by Faust herself? I always assumed so, but she's not mentioned here, and her notebook sketches looked very different.
The notebook sketches are years old, some dating back to the 2010's. It's more likely Faust had a general idea of what she wanted her character to look like and then the designer on her team refined it. Doesn't really matter anyway because even though Faust has the rights to the show back, Netflix still owns all the material they produced, so Faust can't even legally use this version of the design if she gets the show greenlit on another network
>we could get a version with the earlier cute designs
I'm down for it.
It was prolly redesigned while in development like how Tulip from infinity train was redesigned during development not by the creator
There are a couple of password-protected pdfs, what's up with those?
Thank you leakanon.
Can you reshare The Twits boards?

A cat is fine, too.
Aaaand nothing of value was lost, Netflix made the right call for once by canceling it
I somehow read the storyboards with the voices I imagined them having with the Cat having a Phil Hartman impression (which I first had in mind until I found out that the Cat was a girl) and the Witch Girl with the voice of either Lacey Shadows or Agent Xero from The Modifyers
It would have been Tara Strong and Grey in the end based on DCSHG & Horse Show for Tara.
My suggestions were because the Cat to me looked like Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service and the art style along the backgrounds and the setting in the concept art (seen here) looked very exactly like The Modifyers own art style and setting
>Cat to me looked like Jiji from Kiki's Delivery Service
It's a black cat. They all look alike.
Only Zone can revive this
I don't want a shitty meme porn parody though.
Zone can't even revive himself. Maybe someone else would bother, but certainly not him.
He still hasn't delivered his Dominator and Chel animation
Do you guys think this will ever become a thing, or will it be abandoned by Faust like the galaxy girls?
Why must you hurt me so
Just let it go, it's not gonna be a show.
it could be a comic book
She's fricking cute, so it's unfortunate.
Faustkino
I dont remember when, but i used to have a comment on her fyre-fyre deviant art page when a sketch page for toil and trouble was on there maybe back in 2014
She has had the idea for years now and i think the pages are even included in some Lizzy videos on youtube discussing mlp
Waiting for someone to turn it into a voiced animatic
