What's worse Cinemaphile? Him or Geoff Johns?

Tom King hands down is the worst. Johns at least tries to keep the existing characters in character instead of just making them OC’s to fit the story he’s trying to tell

Every main character in a Tom King book is a ptsd-afflicted manchild who committed war crimes who simps hard for his sociopathic dommy mommy gf/wife

Exactly the guy has no real range when it comes to writing it’s basically the same shitty story over and over with some slight variations… or he completely rips off the script of a movie and changes a couple things

He uses similar themes in a lot of his work, but he's hardly writing the same story. What do Batman/Catwoman and Sheriff of Babylon have in common? What about Grayson and Strange Adventures? Danger Street and Omega Men?

              >Grayson

King gets a lot of credit for Grayson but I think Seeley did more of the heavy lifting

Seeley had to tardwrangle King by telling him that Dick Grayson is not depressed. King wanted to write him just like every other protagonist he does.

King gets credit because his issues were better written. But they were only good because Seeley was there with the clear vision of who Dick Grayson was supposed to be. Characters like the Skullgirls, those were Seeley.

Considering the Seeley issues were weaker, I'd say that's a dumb assumption.

They all share a goth teenager’s nihilistic worldview, grandstanding empty prose, and repetitive nonsensical dialogue that lacks even an ounce of humanity. Across the board.

Oh yeah I forgot violence and swearing as substitutions for depth but that kind of falls under the first category.

Yeah, of course. What's this have to do with that guy saying King repeats the same story?

Johns stepped up his game with Forever Evil, who knows what was going on with him and Jim Lee before then.

      Easily King

Johns at least likes the characters he depicts and wants them appearing as cool heroes that stop bad guys and save people.

King keeps on depicting the exact same PTSD addled depressed guy is depressed no matter what hero it is. He just keeps writing the same story of random hero is depressed and feels bad about things, they don't know how they can go on.

It started to be cool to hate him when he stopped doing comics to do movies and tv shows. No matter who it is, Cinemaphile will eventually turn on writers they once liked.

He is a spook, so there is certainly a deliberate element of subversion of the hero archetype in his books imo, but that being said I truly feel like TK can write. Human Target is one of the best things I have read in a while. I liked it so much I bought the first issue of Fire and Ice assuming that comic featuring ice would logically follow the events of the critically acclaimed Human Target comic as it also featured Ice, but nope. It was just shit and had nothing to do with anything.

Penguin is good, but Wonder Woman is kind of gay. The only thing I really am interested in is the main Illuminati villain guy and he is not featured very prominently at all.

I haven't checked out Wonder Woman at all. Supposedly it has a lot of "social commentary" that I'm really not interested in. But I do like Penguin. I would understand if it's not everyone's cup of tea, but I enjoy it.

The social commentary is pretty vanilla tbh and imo kind of strawman for the actual commentary which is “the world is all a stage and those we consider ‘leaders’ are all just puppets for an agenda”

My problem with it is that it’s boring and decompressed, not that I consider it overly “woke” really at all
