DiDio wanted to push 5G and age all the characters up. DiDio hired Bendis to do the hit and Super-Sons got buried with the fishes as a result. While 5G was in the process of being pushed and had several books out promoting it, A hit was eventually placed on DiDio and DiDio was removed from power. With the lost of DiDio, the 5G push was voided and years of planning along with it. Bendis also fell out of favor with new management due to Bendis's lack of performance in contrast to his contract and the lost of DiDio whom favored Bendis as some superstar hitman. Black woman that replaced DiDio eventually got a hit placed on her and went missing as a result. Lee survived because he was a loyal yes-man.

I’ve been pleasantly surprised with DC Black Label. I just read the first issue of Rafael Grampa’s Batman Gargoyle of Gotham and actually quite like the art and story so far (dialogue/ narration is a little ESL stilted in places but everything else more than makes up for it).

dc thought bendis was a big get for them and paid him tons of money and gave him free reign. bendis didn't want to write a kid so when he said he wanted to age up jon dc just shook their heads and went along with it because they thought he would be a big seller. super sons was only a middling seller in floppies, so the killing it didn't seem like a bad call.
fast forward a few years and super sons just had it's omnibus reprinted for the third time. they've also announced super sons trades are being reprinted because the title sold extremely well on the book market. meanwhile bendis got the boot and he is over at dark horse now pumping out books most people haven't even heard of.
So why not undo it? Why is it that even when the Big 2 throws Bendis out like a leper, they still insist on giving his additions and changes preferential treatment? I understand Gay Bobby is basically held hostage by the gay Twitter Mafia threatening social assassination and Miles got memed as "the only thing worth keeping from the Ultimate line", but why not undo something less controvertial like an age-up with Didio gone?
They're probably afraid that if they undo it entirely they'll be seen as "disrespectful" or playing into their stereotype of retconning willy-nilly solely because it's in recent memory .

Then, when they're reunited' Kid Jon and Gay Jon can coexist, have Gay Jon also gain a special power, gain a new name and costume, keep his gay boyfriends and still be part of the family but can have his own separate adventures, etc.
If you want you could make the two Jons the new Red & Blue Supermen, so now there's more a difference between them besides just their color.
