Mission Impossible®: Dead Reckoning Part 1 will have a bigger third weekend than Barbie and Oppenhaimer's second weekend.
People will complain about floppenheimer being too slow, Barbie will lose half its audience once people realize its woke beyond belief.
MI7 will be the only movie with the support of all the american political alignments due to no woke bullshit, in the end it will be the biggest movie of the summer.

    Barbie’s literally always been woke

the complaining about everything being woke is annoying, but i do think the politicization of the barbie movie will hurt its box office through word of mouth. if they made a self aware goofy movie that had broad appeal, especially to kids, it would make bank; but they made it explicitly about gender politics / feminism and that will make it unappealing to a good chunk of the audience and make parents refrain from taking kids. my sister isnt taking my niece to see it, despite her actually liking barbies and ostensibly being the target demo for a barbie movie because "its a grown up movie".

it’s literally why barbie exists in the first place and why they sold so well

thats just not true. barbie was made and sold well because it was the first "adult" doll for girls, as opposed to baby dolls. the appeal was having different clothes and outfits. the idea that barbie can be an astronaut or doctor or whatever she wants didnt happen until barbie was already popular. and even after that fact they never explicitly stated barbie was "fighting the patriarchy" as they do in this movie. also the inclusion of fat and transgender barbies isnt what made them popular, that was all after it was established as a global brand.

I hate having to copypasta wiki to chan but la dee da

            >During a trip to Europe in 1956 with her children Barbara and Kenneth, Ruth Handler came across a German toy doll called Bild Lilli.[1][11] The adult-figured doll was exactly what Handler had in mind, so she purchased three of them. She gave one to her daughter and took the others back to Mattel. The Lilli doll was based on a popular character appearing in a comic strip drawn by Reinhard Beuthin for the newspaper Bild. Lilli was a blonde bombshell, a working girl who knew what she wanted and was not above using men to get it.

            >Louis Marx and Company sued Mattel in March 1961. After licensing Lilli, they claimed that Mattel had "infringed on Greiner & Hausser's patent for Bild-Lilli's hip joint", and also claimed that Barbie was "a direct take-off and copy" of Bild-Lilli. The company additionally claimed that Mattel "falsely and misleadingly represented itself as having originated the design". Mattel counter-claimed and the case was settled out of court in 1963. In 1964, Mattel bought Greiner & Hausser's copyright and patent rights for the Bild-Lilli doll for $21,600.

            >Ruth Handler believed that it was important for Barbie to have an adult appearance, and early market research showed that some parents were unhappy about the doll's chest, which had distinct breasts. Barbie's appearance has been changed many times, most notably in 1971 when the doll's eyes were adjusted to look forwards rather than having the demure sideways glance of the original model.

here you are seething they made a movie about adult themes when the doll exists and sold as an adult with 50’s “wokeness” even her first outfit was scandalous being a swimming suit. it actually appears the movie is an accurate adaptation of the property and the doll’s original design

nothing in what you quoted refutes any point i made or supports your claim that: barbie being woke is why it was made and why it sold well in the first place.

I don't know if that's woke so much as marketing a doll to little girls which was an untapped market with lots of money to be made? I mean sure it's kind of feministy but making money off selling toys was probably the primary motivator. Like the other anon said, becoming an astronaut and doctor came later, once there was a huge following and loose Barbie needed some substance (whilst still selling dolls)

Yeah okay that is sort of 1950's woke, but there was still plenty of money to be made off selling dolls, having toys marketed to girls as well as boys doesn't seem that woke when there's a bunch more money to be made.

                >a mongolian basket weaving forum are mad at a barbie movie for being “woke”
im not mad about the movie being woke, im saying it will hurt its numbers.

im going to bed now, so im going to reiterate: my original point was the politicization of the movie is going to hurt the movie's box office because parents arent going to take their kids, and i gave an anecdote about this happening.
your response is: parents are hypocrites for not taking their kids to a barbie movie that promotes third wave feminism and aims to normalize transgenderism because barbie wore a bikini in 1950.

the controversy about an adult doll in a removable swimsuit is about sexual implications of having a toy with exposed breasts. it has nothing to do with woman in the work place, fighting gender roles or equal pay for women which is what would be considered "50s wokeness".

Absolutely agree. They could have made an "in world" Barbie movie with some drama and some self-reflection to the adults, would have been great.

Feminism used to be implied, it was so much more effective.

Heavy handed shit doesn't go over well.

Mission Impossible has, for most people, actually improved as a series and in 2023 it stands out as a breath of fresh air for having real stunts, less shitty CGI, more real locations and less green screen backgrounds/skyscapes. Supporting this this along with Top Gun 2 is supporting a better film industry
