skateboarding just became an Olympic sport in 2020, with the Paris 2024 games also on the way. Not to mention the stranglehold skate culture has had on pop culture and fashion for decades (Thrasher hoodies, Nike Dunks, Supreme). Tony Hawk's discipline of skating isn't even popular anymore, he's just a figurehead for the general public's perception of skating
