Tony Soprano

Why was he so evil. He actively enjoyed it when others suffered and failed even when it hurt him

>LOL Paulie (who I almost killed for nothing last week) made a joke about how Chris baby daughter will be a moronic stripper at the Bing by 17 years old.

Puss' death broke him so badly. He just bottled up his emotions and went down a spiral as the series progressed

Tony Soprano is a mob boss who grapples with various personal and moral dilemmas throughout the series. He's a deeply flawed character with a criminal lifestyle, but he also shows moments of vulnerability and self-reflection. Dr. Melfi's therapy sessions serve several purposes:

Confession and introspection: In therapy, Tony has a space to openly discuss his thoughts, feelings, and moral conflicts. This allows him to reflect on his actions and the impact they have on others. At times, this introspection can lead to moments of self-awareness and growth.

Coping and stress management: Therapy provides Tony with tools to manage the stress and emotional turmoil of his criminal life. It helps him cope with the pressures of being a mob boss.

However, it's also important to note that Tony is a highly manipulative and complex character. As the series progresses, his therapy sessions can have unintended consequences:

Rationalization: Tony is skilled at using his therapy sessions to rationalize and justify his criminal behavior. He sometimes twists Dr. Melfi's advice or interpretations to support his actions, essentially using therapy to reinforce his own perspective.

Lack of accountability: While therapy should hold Tony accountable for his actions, it often fails to do so effectively. He may reveal his criminal activities in therapy, but legal or ethical constraints prevent Dr. Melfi from reporting them. This lack of accountability can reinforce his behavior.

Emotional manipulation: Tony occasionally uses his vulnerability and emotional struggles to manipulate those around him, including Dr. Melfi. This manipulation can be seen as a way to maintain his criminal lifestyle while appearing to seek help.

In summary, while Dr. Melfi's therapy sessions with Tony Soprano offer some potential for self-reflection and personal growth, they also serve as a backdrop for his manipulation, rationalization of his actions, and lack of accountability. Ultimately, the series presents a nuanced portrayal of how therapy can interact with the complexities of human nature, including the potential for both positive and negative outcomes in the context of a deeply flawed character like Tony Soprano.

I also thought this was hack writing out of leftfield, presumably to push the character to get killed off by Tony eventually. Chase fundameally doesn't understand the mafia if he seriously thinks anybody would say that about a made mans child. A child. It's absolutely unthinkable for oldguard Italians to even think such a thing. You can see Tony laughing along with the joke but in reality as the head of the crew this would never happen.

Old-guard Italians are low iq monsters incapable of empathy, and tony wasn't even that, he was just some boomer hack.

You've clearly never been to Italy. Come to Solerno today and see how the criminal underworld here protects the family unit. There's literal civil wars about this type of shit. Italians still have old values ingrained in them that's why the country is even led by a fascist.

Meloni is 100% fascist. I live in Salerno, what do you think is a larp? Italy is literally based and you have no idea how italians think, especially the mafia in the south. Family is everything, the outliers even only peddle drugs to immigrants. The oil scams are also sold only to outsiders, national identity is at an all time high

        He's right

The mafia was ran like a business/paramilitary organization. If you did something wrong and someone ran to HR you'd be paying a big fine or dead

Families were off limits, you couldn't hurt or insult other made guys, you couldn't step on other people's toe's when it came to business, etc

In the entire arc they almost started a war over comments regarding speaking ill of other families. The whole incident with Johnny Sack and his wife. Families in the mafia were always off-limits, that scene was complete nonsense. You are the moron here.

Tony Soprano is way more complex than just "an evil villain". If he was truly a monster he would have let his son drown instead of struggling to save him.
