Cinemaphile veteran here. I left Cinemaphile in 2020 during the BLM riots to train, stack and get fit.
I had limited success but now I lost my job and my girlfriend and am checking in here for old time sake... all of culture is erroding OP. Music, vidya movies literature... BlackRock and StateStreet are buying up all creators to make literal new age propaganda... that is why all the movies suck, why the only movies making money are from name brands... cause the moment someone does something innovative they are crushed by the investment banks.
But yes the death of Hollywood is the least of our problems
Making stuff for kids should be the highest honor. I can't even name half the shit I watched last year, but the stuff I watched as a child lives on forever and continues to shape me.
man if i could invest in video game movies somehow I would, its taken them waaay too long to realize even semi-faithful adaptations of normie games will do blockbuster numbers.
fallout and mario arent even great adaptations, they just simply are offensively dissimilar, and thats all they need to be, and people will flock to the shit
zelda movie is next btw, its gonna be more lukewarm mediocre stuff thats just faithful enough, written and directed by some guy who has made 2 movies and it will rake in a billion dollars
>zelda movie is next btw, its gonna be more lukewarm mediocre stuff thats just faithful enough, written and directed by some guy who has made 2 movies and it will rake in a billion dollars
Zelda is more niche, IDK about that one
Dude Zelda triforce tshirts still sell at walmart, it might not have legs but it will do fine especially considering how cheap these movies actually are
any of the zelda games adapted straight would do great with the whole zelda audience
but they will change character races, make link talk, and have the story being political rather than just a generic fantasy with references
>they will change character races, make link talk, and have the story being political rather than just a generic fantasy with reference
I don't know, I think Nintendo has learned its lesson about letting the US interpret their media after those DIC cartoons. I can't see the changes being any more severe than girlboss Peach was in the Mario Bros movie, but I guess we'll find out when the first trailer drops.
It's usually one of the following: >movie just uses the game's title to draw interest from built-in audience, is a patchwork of terrible ideas from hack writers and changes demanded by the lead actor(s) who wouldn't have signed on otherwise
or >movie is obviously some guy's own original script that he changed a few names in to make it seem like an adaptation
or >director thought "wow I can make a much better version of this story" and it turns out no, he couldn't
Lesbian Gundam and show about two lesbians and their gay black dad are the most profitable anime of 2023. It's not about wokeness or girlbosses it's about terrible writing and baffling corporate decisions.
it had big marketing and of course some of that 1b goes to cinemas, THAT SAID this is the example of hollywood accounting. Even considering what i said before it made more than 202m but they are doing financial tricks (like borrowing money to yourself) to underreport profits so they pay lower taxes
>three animated films in the top five
Considering how expensive animation is, I'm impressed, but confused. What on earth are live-action films doing to inflate their budgets that badly?
I only saw oppenheimer, somehow that movie which spent three hours whitewashing the traitorous actions of israelites was the least israeli on the list.
the world is ending and this is what you spend your time obsessing over
This.

Touch grass
everyone I talked to is suffering from inflation and rising food and housing prices... like literally everyone. Do you mean talk to rich people?
Stop living in the past, anon.
>only 1 movie not made for kids
Adult bros, it's over...
>mogs Oppenheimer with style
Kids still long for that cinema experience so parents are forced to take them
The perfect double dip
Real adults pirate their kino
Making stuff for kids should be the highest honor. I can't even name half the shit I watched last year, but the stuff I watched as a child lives on forever and continues to shape me.
The absolute state of cinema

After Pokémon and Mario it's the third most profitable and known IP Nintendo has.
I'm still not convinced it will do that well
Dude Zelda triforce tshirts still sell at walmart, it might not have legs but it will do fine especially considering how cheap these movies actually are
Zelda movie will be live action so expect a bloated ass budget
If they can appeal to the romance/princess audience that Disney's up and abandoned, it'll do fine.
any of the zelda games adapted straight would do great with the whole zelda audience
but they will change character races, make link talk, and have the story being political rather than just a generic fantasy with references

brother, Zelda is in the top five of most well known game franchises ever, FNAF cracked the top and it's not even close of their popularity
Feels like the movie industry is intentionally sabotaging video game movies.
Borderlands movie will be a kino dumpster fire.
It's usually one of the following:

how are they getting $204.5 million for TMNT? Physical media sales? Streaming estimates?
https://deadline.com/2024/05/teenage-mutant-ninja-turtles-mutant-mayhem-movie-profits-1235902581/
>Not Ourselves paid Ourselves $100 million for the rights to stream the movie
I bet that merchandising was for all of TMNT and not just this movie
>1 (ONE) film not based on an existing IP
>and it's a biopic
I would argue Taylor Swift counts as an 'existing IP.'
Uhhh, JigCbros?? We still rockin'?
fricking hell you will never see another cultural decline like hollywood. only thing that could surpass this is the destruction of israel itself.
good for oppenheimer, one movie on that list that proves you can make an actual good adult movie and still be successful
>mario number one
Comfykino wins again.
Chris and Charlie were great m4ario bros
gross profit is a useless figure, net profit is all that matters
These are the net figures tho
Hitler, good, good, mid, Hitler, Hitler, Hitler, Hitler, mid, Hitler
Hollywood still won't take animation seriously even though it's the only thing consistently making money at the boxoffice now.
Animation is cinema!
They are beyond hope. It would require a massive management purge and that's not going to happen.
Girlboss agenda is more important than silly things such as profits
Lesbian Gundam and show about two lesbians and their gay black dad are the most profitable anime of 2023. It's not about wokeness or girlbosses it's about terrible writing and baffling corporate decisions.
Yeah I doubt it.
Lesbo Gundam literally broke records.
If its the kit sales then it's more believable I suppose.
Gundam revenue was always 90% kits. Anime was free on their official youtube.
Gundam is a franchise built on overpriced model kits. The anime series for the last like 40 years have been advertisements for toys.
What WfM managed to do was get a ton of new people into Gundam and gunpla. Something they tried and failed for 20 years.
I must have been born with some wrong chromosone 'cuz I don't into guns, cars, or mechs. the only gundam i finished was Wing and I saw it 2-3 times
> show about two lesbians and their gay black dad
Name?
Panty and Stocking
they aren't lesbians
panty is a bawd and stocking fricks chuds
It's about Lycoris Recoil bro.
Im pretty sure I remember them both wanting to frick each other at one point
they're sisters you sick frick
it's been a while since I watched it though so maybe they did
Black Widow was actually decent. I went in expecting a cash grab pile of shit, and got a reasonble B-tier superhero movie.
Black Widow was not decent, you just want to have sex with Scarlett Johannsen, but not Gal Gadot.
Reasonable
>the 4 most profitable movies are all woke
Go woke go broke bros ? How are we even supposed to recover ?
It's over.
There are video games that made more money in 2023 than this entire list combined.
No wonder movies are a dying medium.
B-but muh streaming will save Hollywood! Whoops nvm only Netflix has profits with streaming.
Games > boomer legacy entertainment medium
>Oppenheimer cost 100 million
>made back 1 billion
Where did profit go?
it had big marketing and of course some of that 1b goes to cinemas, THAT SAID this is the example of hollywood accounting. Even considering what i said before it made more than 202m but they are doing financial tricks (like borrowing money to yourself) to underreport profits so they pay lower taxes
>Barbie loses by over a 100 million to a movie that literally has BROS in the name
HOOKED ON THE BROTHERS
They should have crossed over with mario bros so Ken could be a bros and give the bros some brewski beers
The Chris Pratt effect
That's some sad shit
>IF WE RESPECT THE SOURCE MATERIAL, WE CAN MAKE MONEY
woah....
the craziest fricking concept known to man...
>three animated films in the top five
Considering how expensive animation is, I'm impressed, but confused. What on earth are live-action films doing to inflate their budgets that badly?
>Considering how expensive animation is
Dude it's 2 to 3 times cheaper than modern Hollywood CGI crap. Mario was 100 million.
>Sloppenheimer made almost a billion on a $100m budget
>Only 200m profit
??
Add 150-200 million for marketing then cut box office by half.
That's pure profit for the studio with all expenses and cuts accounted for.
I only saw oppenheimer, somehow that movie which spent three hours whitewashing the traitorous actions of israelites was the least israeli on the list.
>little mermaid didn't make the list
Good. I will never forgive Disney for casting a Black person as a beautiful dutch redhead mermaid.
>INB4 Spiderman is black now
At least they had the decency to make him a new person and not retcon Peter Parker into being black just because.
>little mermaid reboot was 2023, not 2022
Wow, I memory-holed that movie harder than I thought.
From a business perspective, Taylor Swift was the most impressive because the production cost was 1/10 of the other movies on the list.
