I have looked through the list and isolated the top 250 animated shows and movies, including anime. I cannot guarantee the completeness, as it's done manually, and I've probably missed shows from other countries. Also, if you're wondering why Netflix gutted their animation department, look no further than this list.
Their live action shows bring in FAAAAR more viewers than any of their in-house animated shows, even their foreign stuff is far more popular, in addition to being far cheaper.
At the end of the day, it all boils down to money.
Viewing hours are a shit metric though, Netflix isn't paid by the hour.
10 toddlers can rack up 200M hours on Paw Patrol in a month but that's only 10 subscriptions, a streaming service is much better off going by unique watchers that saw the whole thing, and stayed on until the next season too, even if the total viewing hours are smaller than something people leave on in the background all day.
Viewing hours tell you roughly how popular something is, and Netflix doesn't really care why you subscribe, just that you subscribe.
If a parent only subs to Netflix to keep Cocomelon on in the background to keep their braindead toddler that they're too lazy to raise properly occupied, that's still a retained sub for Netflix, and they care more about retaining the subs they have than spending millions on a show to potentially gain a few thousand subs from a niche group.
There's a reason they fill their platform with dozens of shitty reality TV shows from around the globe every year these days.
It's still a misleading metric taken raw given how differently toddlers/binge watchers and adults consume media.
There's 8760 hours in a year, if 10K parents leave Cocomelon on 12 hours a day for their toddler that's ~43M viewing hours of Cocomelon, but if 1M people see e.g. Arcane's first season in full and want to stay subscribed until the next one, it'll show up as only 6M hours, going only by the hours without looking at the unique account views would make Cocomelon appear 7x more valuable than Arcane, when Arcane is actually 100x more valuable.

If you're worried about Netflix over-valuing preschool shows, remember that Netflix also knows how many individual devices are watching. They know how to account for this.
Yeah they supposedly use some "stickiness" method that's close to what I described in my first post (because that's where I got it from in the first place), I'm saying these raw hours they released aren't really that useful or transparent when it comes to preschool shows at least, we'd need the actual metrics they use internally to judge media.

They will be, whenever the new contracts for actors kick in. Netflix is just getting ahead of the curve. They're not afraid to show these stats, because they blow everyone else out of the water.
Someone should go through the contracts again and find out at how many hours do extra royalties kick in. I suspect most SAG actors won't see an extra dime from streaming, and they delayed negotiation for several more weeks for this. They got screwed hard by their union.

Yes, but that's still pretty darn bad. 300,000 hours across 6 episodes at roughly 20 minutes each, that's a maximum of 150K viewers who watched the entire thing globally, for a period of 6 months. That's a very low number, and that's assuming they only watched once. The real number is probably lower, and Netflix knows what that number is because they can track by device.
Yeah but it's still 2 years after its release when you'd expect an obscure new IP like it to get most of its views on release when there'd be *some* sort of promotion on it either on social media or on Netflix itself, how else would anyone discover it 2 years later save for explicitly looking it up. That's because Netflix paid for Inside Job out of pocket since it was animated in-house, while Edgerunners they only paid for exclusive licensing, since CDPR had already paid for the production.
Before Netflix paid for the exclusive rights CDPR was planning on just releasing Edgerunners on Youtube for free.

Anyone looking at my youtube history might be tempted to come to the conclusion that truecrime videos are my favorite thing to watch, because I play several hours of them almost every week. When really, I just put them on as background noise while I do the cooking or chores. My actual favorite programs are things I only set aside maybe one hour for only once a week, but which I pay close attention to.
This doesn’t seem much different. These kids and their parents are probably letting Paw Patrol or Cocomelon play on the tv while the kids are doing coloring or eating breakfast.
Those shows are very good at getting kids to just gawk at the tv rather than being background noise

No they don't, the most popular seasons correlates to how much controversy the show generated, season 1 being so high because that was when it debuted and season 6 sparked lots of interest since that's when inside job got cancelled so people went to watch the newer episodes to see why the show is still ongoing, this also explains why season 4 which is in the middle of the pack has the lowest viewership compared to the rest since the controversy from the earlier seasons killed most of the interest

Netflix knows. They know way better than you could imagine. They even know which specific person in the household is likely to have watched something based simply on time of day.
The individual performance of these preschool shows don't matter as much as the performance of the entire category. Yes, these shows would never be able to get this kind of view hours on tv, and that's exactly what makes them valuable to Netflix. Because it makes Netflix valuable to parents who use their service as a babysitter.
What doesn't matter? Netflix Animation. They're being beaten by licensed shows and anime, handily. Few people are subscribing to Netflix just for those cartoons, but they sure would for preschool and anime.
