People hate on Scott to much. His plan to sabotage his own team wasn't even bad.
it's a lot more solid than even the show gives him credit for. all the best players are obviously on the Toxic Rats: Dawn, B, Lightning, and later Brick. getting rid of them before the merge greatly increases your chances of winning. he also makes a point to gain Zoey's trust and get dirt he can use as leverage over Mike. that's a really good position to be in. but the writers make some really strange decisions that make Scott look like kind of an idiot.
the biggest snag is when he swaps teams and starts sabotaging the maggots, which torpedoes all the work he's done up until then. it would be a lot easier to let the Rats implode, seeing as how it has the three physically strongest campers. it also gets most of the maggots pissed at him, and he ends up having to play his idol. episodes 7 and 8 are the worst scott episodes, i don't think the writers really knew what to do with him. or maybe they felt he had to be part of the action even though at that point he'd be better off laying low until the merge.
You pretty much nailed it. His strategy was solid in the beginning, taking out heavy hitters before the merge, and before people have time to form strong bonds on his team. It was when he lost sight of the original reason for his sabotage that everything failed. It started out a really viable strat that he took too far in the wrong places.
I'd like to see more contestants in the future sabotage their own teams to get an early vote-off for strong players.
your mention of strong bonds reminded me of another advantage to sabotaging your team so they always lose: it puts everyone on edge, makes them irritable. they start blaming others for the losing streak. they'll judge others for every small mistake, and become self-conscious about their own shortcomings.
some people might think B's elimination was an asspull, but I could see the Rats believing it. if B's such a genius, why does the team keep losing?
Scott's putting himself in the crossfire as well, but he's not psyched out like the others because he knows what's really going on. and he's got an idol.
The two smartest players have their own reasons people wouldn't trust them from the start too. B never talks which brings up the quiet kid memes and Dawn was already seen as a bit creepy. Scott meanwhile is pitiful from the start because of his home situation. It was easy for him to get rid of those two who would have likely crushed post-merge.
and by episode 5 at the latest Scott is clearly “one of the guys”, he’s got quite a bit of sway over his team.
Scott’s a really frickin’ good villain. I’d say he’s Total Drama’s biggest pleb filter.
Finally, a thread with intellectual discussion.
I just wish his plan made sense. All it took was a simple adjustment. His plan is to get his own teammates eliminated to give the other team a "false sense of security" and then he'd "pick them off" later. Whatever sense that makes. If it was instead he was getting rid of his better teammates (Dawn is socially popular, B is a gadget genius) so there'd be less competition at the merge, that'd make way more sense.

Priya already felt like the nice every-girl based off her design, so I did assume she was going to be a writer's pet and stay at least 3/4 of the first season.

I was predicting that either Raj, Zee, or Caleb would be Bowie's love interest since they gave the strongest gay/bi vibes. Especially since cartoons favor using brown skinned characters for extra diversity points.
Bowie had more character interactions and was involved in a lot of game moves in both seasons in comparison to Wayne.

It had it's moments but it wasn't that strong of a season. Since it was a short season most of the 3rd Gen cast felt like elimination fodder
It had a few redeeming qualities, but it's definitely one of the worse seasons.
Jazmine is boring. Shawn is good though.

Rough cast that relies way too much over the top or on the nose pop culture references to get by, which Revenge was already pushing a bit too much. You have in this one Honey Boo-Boo, Dr Evil, a female Crocodile Dundee, Wreck it Ralph, Snow White (though the idea that she signed up solely because she liked the songs from World Tour only to be disappointed there's no songs this season is fun), the sound effects guy from police academy, and the most over the top Dungeons and Dragons nerd you can do taking up half of the cast.
Shawn (who is himself a Sean of the Dead reference) is great and mercifully makes it all the way to the end as a saving grace for the series where they actually picked the right winner.
Topher is a great concept for a character by giving Chris a rival vying to usurp him, and it's just a shame he's lost in the shuffle of this season.
Amy and Sammy being evil twin and good twin provides one of the best elimination moments in the entire series.
But while Mal is probably far worse as big bad villains go, the abrupt Scarlett twist sends the season into complete madness at one stage where it reaches jumping the shark territory. Yet somehow you also have characters like Sky, who is all of the blandest points of Zoey and Priya combined with none of their interesting traits, making it to the end.
Dave is also there.
Sky had at least one redeeming quality.
She's fun.
Honestly, the final three episode was Sky's best. She actually talked about athleticism like running track and giving what's left in the tank. A rivalry with Sugar while bantering with Shawn. And an explanation as to why she burps like this. (It's because of her ab training).
If she was more like this for the season she wouldn't have been such a Zoey 2.0 with a annoying romance that ate up screen-time.
Not even going to comment how Priya got that same fate this season.

I remember trying to rewatch it awhile ago after not having seen it since it first aired and getting really bored after Leonard was eliminated. I think I stopped after episode 4. The cast is way too over the top for its own good and it's just not very funny.
To put it one way, 7/13 characters are some sort of one-note joke and literally nothing else. Only six characters are ones that have literally ANY sort of depth. And yet one is just an incel that goes into an actual murderous rage when rejected. One is just Zoey Again. Then there's a pair of twins with an unfinished arc, with one of the twins existing for the sole purpose of making the other one miserable. She doesn't even care about the competition as long as she can torment her sister.
My mistake, there are fourteen contestants, but still, seven is half of the frickers that exist to tell exactly one type of joke. A lot of them are just "X Character, but a Total Drama contestant" and more than any other season.

I thought it was all fanfic, there's no way they'd make an allstars 2. the last non-dramarama non-ridonculous season they did was 2014, it'd be a total headache to get people to reprise their decade-old roles for characters nobody particularly liked.
I think the best case for a new All Stars is that the reboot's season 3 is an entirely new cast, 26 episodes total, and then in five years from now we get an All Stars with two different reboot casts. Frick the OG's they had enough time to shine.

That's not really true. Most of the Dramarama cast has the same actors just with their audio pitched up to be kid-like, the few that don't are usually ones that were fired instead of quit and TD actors almost always express a lot of love for the characters they do.
Sure you probably won't get, say, Eva's voice actor but a lot of them are still in. And maybe it was a weird line read but Pete didn't exactly sound like himself in his cameo either.
Forgot to add that the Pete thing probably means they aren't all that fussy about changing the voices if it isn't the same actor. Could have easily done a different cameo or got one of the other old Dramarama characters.

There's obviously other problems, but All-Stars and Pahkitew both suffered from the shortened episode lenght.
One thing I realized today, if Terry gets his way and we get the same caste a third time in a row, is how the triple-player finales work out. If we're assuming characters can only be in a finale once, that means six characters already can't be winners in Season 3. Nearly half the cast will not make it to the finals, and that gets rid of a lot of tension. It was the same problem with All-Stars, where nearly half the cast was made of finalists, so we knew they wouldn't make it to the end.
The best solution in that case is to have the finalists all be the first 6 to go. Pull that band-aid off early, and allows all those early eliminated characters a true chance to shine.
Sadly, I don't think the writers have the sense to do that. They let Gwen and Priya make it to the penultimate episode after already being a finalist/canon winner. Something tells me they won't learn their lesson anytime soon.
As much as I'd love to do that, it also comes with another problem. Of the 10 left, there's certain ones that HAVE to go much like we knew that one of each duo from this season had to go or a lot of comic relief that, let's face it, there probably isn't gonna be two of them in the finale.
Axel and Ripper? No way they both get to the finals. If one of them is final 4, you know the other two characters are safe. A final 4 that somehow consists of, say, Chase + Zee + Lauren + Emma? Pretty safe bet that Zee or Lauren would be the one going.
Millie and/or Bowie need to at least be lategame so it becomes less predictable. Even if you know they're going, you don't know when. Then again this season fricked us up with Raj and Damien going before Priya so who fricking knows what they'll do at this point

Well who do you think would make for a compelling hero and villain plot without them around? Genuinely asking. Emma is the closest bet I have for a hero main character. Ripper feels too mellowed out to be the major antag. Chase is too laid back. MK has already cheated and stolen, what else is there for her to do that’s evil? I guess we have Scary Girl?

If it's not MK, it basically has to be Chase. He just has to be played completely different from Bowie and Julia, but he can work as a Lightning kind of villain. He's not a schemer, but he can certainly be obnoxious and selfish enough whilst still having enough ability to carry himself through the challenges.
The other option is Nichelle. She's honestly a bit of a b***h, and now that she's actually competent at the challenges, she could be a total monster who is not going to believe any deals falling into her lap this time.
Nichelle as villain would basically be season one Julia but worse.

MK is funnier and smarter than Bowie and Julia combined. which is to say, she is funnier and smarter than Bowie. everything she did had a massive impact on the game, which inherently made her interesting to watch. MK could 100% carry the villain title on her own, the only hurdle would be keeping her in the game long enough.
that being said, there's a reason World Tour introduced a new character to serve as the villain. the reboot is in much the same place the gen 1 cast was at the end of Action, except worse because there are less characters and they were all brought back.

Given the crazy things Total Drama did in later seasons, why not do time travel and use different famous areas during different periods of time as the locations? You could solve the timeskip with this by having the characters join in from the past. The punishment for losing is being left in the time period you lost at for gags until everyone comes back for the finale.

A new elimination device is a rocket. Shooting to the stars. MacArthur now works for Chris alongside Chef.

now Chase is the main target for elimination letting MK and Scary fly under the radar for a bit while Emma gets forgiven and uses that to gain a power dynamic over everyone in the merge
there, a way to get rid of the screenhogs, keep MK/Lauren in for a while and get an unconventional "villain" in Emma

It's so weird how Courtney became this giga powerhouse in Action and World Tour. Looking back at her time in Island, it wasn't impressive. She didn't jump off the cliff or face her fears in the phobia episode. And then the only time she did anything noteworthy in a challenge was staying up decently long in the no sleep episode, even then she just barely scraped by the top ten. Then Action comes and she's stronger and faster than everyone else and powers through everything with ease.
