anyways, i'm always #teamjulia and have been since designs got leaked, but i never thought i'd get my way this much. her defying the dakota-esque early boot predictions, the tda heather premerger predictions, as well as her numerous immunity wins and orchestrated eliminations of several annoying characters has been such a godsend.
it feels wrong to call her my favorite character since the early seasons had much better writing and will always be hella nostalgic for me, but she's literally been perfect in every single second of screentime she's received. courtney may just lose her crown yet.

i sooo get you julianon! dakota was my favourite character back when tdri aired (probably because of sympathy for her mutation since i was little but i still grew to like her over time). being able to consciously process a total drama season now and see how well julia was written is honestly a blessing. i'm really happy they saw her potential again and didn't ditch her pre-merge.
definitely a top 5 character overall for me.
love dakota too, i so wish they did more with her, and i feel similarly about amy and taylor so i'm stoked they finally came through with julia being such a major villain.
i could be overanalyzing it, i just feel like caleb feels like the protagonist of the season right now and narratively there's been a lot of hints to this season being an incredible redemption story for him. we'll see though!

Exactly. Now I have to continue to speculate on various scenarios on how this person could get eliminated next week. The last season being dropped all at once killed that sort of speculation which was disappointing.

This. Unlike previous seasons, they have actually made the reboot seasons sort of hard to really guess who's getting eliminated where and such. Especially with this second season. I'm glad all the episodes didn't get dumped like before because now I have more time to think on who could be eliminated.

A big problem with All-Stars that I don't see brought up a lot, thinking of it. about half the cast were already finalists, so we knew they wouldn't get that far again. Sucks a lot of tension out when we know for a fact that half the contestants aren't making it to the finals.
they don't even have the decency to boot those characters early. we know gwen's not going to be a finalist, you don't need to keep her around until the penultimate fricking episode.

ages ago I came up with a challenge for coming up with a fan made alternate version of All-Stars and the "hard mode" challenge was to limit yourself to only choosing one or two characters out of the "Popular" choices from the first two generations of cast members(cause otherwise you just end up with a dull cast selection like the actual All-Stars we got), and you had to give an in-universe reason why they weren't selected

I'd rearrange the characters from TDI. They're the exact same ones we saw in all stars except Owen, who are all the same characters we see all the time.
Heather has literally nothing left for her character, especially with Julia making her redundant. Swap with Lindsay
Owen and Duncan are also overused with not much left to do. Owen had RR and we really don't need more Courtney Duncan Gwen love triangle. Swap with Tyler and Cody who need redemptions.
With TDRI cast, it's also a lot of the same as All Stars. I'd swap Zoe, who was way overused, with Dawn who was underused.
For Pakhitew, Sugar and Max suck, so I'd swap with Amy and Samy, who seemed to have been wasted in their season. Sure there's a slight gender inbalance but who cares?

A part of me kind of hopes that the next season, if we get one, doesn't leak. I'm unable to help myself from looking, but seeing these spoilers sure takes some of the fun out of it. Watching Ridonculous Race (which apparently only came out four years ago, it feels way longer) weekly and talking in the threads that cropped up was pretty fun since none of us had any idea what was assuredly going to happen.

A really insecure and meek guy that gets carried through the game by a strategic player who is fond of him. It takes too long for Aiden to finally trust the guy that is doing all the job, and he practically doesn't interact with anyone else.
When he finally gets his head in the game, after like 10 episodes of playing safe and not getting dirt in his hands, he then gets mad again when he gets played like a fiddle by the main villain, who told him that the based bf only started to help him because he wanted to win popularity.

It's pretty easy to get why people love Bowie. He's gay but the show doesn't make him perfect nor make his character pander-y. He has flaws, fun dynamics and gets shit on a lot for his arrogance. He adds a refreshing spin on antagonists in this series.

I do feel they have leaned into those two and Priya/Caleb to give justice to everyone else (other than Damien). I like Zee, but using him as a plot device made him very weak this season, compared to last season where he was a laugh riot. Same for Axel, who's just Ripper's girlfriend now. Not really something I care about.
Problem is the episodes are like 90% challenge so we aren't getting as many downtime moments. Like looking at episode 4 of the original TD (first result I got) we didn't get the challenge til 4 minutes in vs 3 minutes into episode 7 of the new show and the larger cast meant we had way more sidebars during the challenge to develop relationships so we got like 3 more minutes of character moments every episode.
I hate to take Priya's side for once, but honestly she got abused way too much that last episode. Feels like it should have been Caleb taking all the abuse for having used her at first, but nah she gets beat up and cucked and emotionally tortured all fricking episode because of what he did.

anyways, i'm always #teamjulia and have been since designs got leaked, but i never thought i'd get my way this much. her defying the dakota-esque early boot predictions, the tda heather premerger predictions, as well as her numerous immunity wins and orchestrated eliminations of several annoying characters has been such a godsend.
it feels wrong to call her my favorite character since the early seasons had much better writing and will always be hella nostalgic for me, but she's literally been perfect in every single second of screentime she's received. courtney may just lose her crown yet.

i sooo get you julianon! dakota was my favourite character back when tdri aired (probably because of sympathy for her mutation since i was little but i still grew to like her over time). being able to consciously process a total drama season now and see how well julia was written is honestly a blessing. i'm really happy they saw her potential again and didn't ditch her pre-merge.
definitely a top 5 character overall for me.

This. Unlike previous seasons, they have actually made the reboot seasons sort of hard to really guess who's getting eliminated where and such. Especially with this second season. I'm glad all the episodes didn't get dumped like before because now I have more time to think on who could be eliminated.
I will always support weekly episodes over the binge drops. Binging completely ruins any chance for discussion or speculation, which I find really fun.
I would not have enjoyed this season as much had it been dropped at once.
That said I think I'd have killed myself had I waited a week for the fricking fart episode last time, so maybe that one should have been dumped at once.
The last one I didn't know the order for was TDI when it originally aired. Was super exciting.
Skipped TDA and WT but eventually watched them and was excited for TDRI but the boot order was spoiled because if aired in Italy or something. I didn't even know all stars was a thing until later and pakhitew was also spoiled.

ages ago I came up with a challenge for coming up with a fan made alternate version of All-Stars and the "hard mode" challenge was to limit yourself to only choosing one or two characters out of the "Popular" choices from the first two generations of cast members(cause otherwise you just end up with a dull cast selection like the actual All-Stars we got), and you had to give an in-universe reason why they weren't selected

With TDRI cast, it's also a lot of the same as All Stars. I'd swap Zoe, who was way overused, with Dawn who was underused.
For Pakhitew, Sugar and Max suck, so I'd swap with Amy and Samy, who seemed to have been wasted in their season. Sure there's a slight gender inbalance but who cares?

A part of me kind of hopes that the next season, if we get one, doesn't leak. I'm unable to help myself from looking, but seeing these spoilers sure takes some of the fun out of it. Watching Ridonculous Race (which apparently only came out four years ago, it feels way longer) weekly and talking in the threads that cropped up was pretty fun since none of us had any idea what was assuredly going to happen.
It'll probably leak since that seems to be the history with this series, but hopefully is like this one where we still get weekly episodes rather than a whole series dump.

I started watching it yesterday and wasn't too sold into the first episode. Too many characters for me to care.
They whittle them down pretty fast, most of the teams they decide to keep around and flesh out grow on you. Especially the villains of the season

Dude's entire thing is just believing other people's random bullshit then getting mad about it over and over just for bad relationship drama in the finale. It's like Zoey but you don't even have the mary sue power levels to even pretend this character is interesting.
A really insecure and meek guy that gets carried through the game by a strategic player who is fond of him. It takes too long for Aiden to finally trust the guy that is doing all the job, and he practically doesn't interact with anyone else.
When he finally gets his head in the game, after like 10 episodes of playing safe and not getting dirt in his hands, he then gets mad again when he gets played like a fiddle by the main villain, who told him that the based bf only started to help him because he wanted to win popularity.

Is it just me or have they upped their game when it comes to the humor this season? Those episodes were pretty funny. (Eliminations aside)

I'm sorry but this is what should have been the main relationship of the show, just like with Alejandro and Heather. Caleb and Priya just aren't that interesting and take more screentime than the clearly superior couple.
I guess it's just how it is. This is technically still for kids and teens so I guess heroes have to win. World Tour was just lucky to have a villain endgame.

Next episode is called "breaking up is hard to do" and that might be about them, not Priya and Caleb since they're already broken up. I can see Julia voting her off but regretting it instantly, they make up and say goodbye until the finale.

I do feel they have leaned into those two and Priya/Caleb to give justice to everyone else (other than Damien). I like Zee, but using him as a plot device made him very weak this season, compared to last season where he was a laugh riot. Same for Axel, who's just Ripper's girlfriend now. Not really something I care about.
Problem is the episodes are like 90% challenge so we aren't getting as many downtime moments. Like looking at episode 4 of the original TD (first result I got) we didn't get the challenge til 4 minutes in vs 3 minutes into episode 7 of the new show and the larger cast meant we had way more sidebars during the challenge to develop relationships so we got like 3 more minutes of character moments every episode.
I hate to take Priya's side for once, but honestly she got abused way too much that last episode. Feels like it should have been Caleb taking all the abuse for having used her at first, but nah she gets beat up and cucked and emotionally tortured all fricking episode because of what he did.
