Actual fans includes a huge proportion of fujos and their simps. "Walky" is an original G1 fan and he's woker than most trannies. Your best hope, ironically, is from boomers who care nothing for the source material and just want to see cool robots and explosions, like Michael Bay.
I thought he came into the fandom during the Beast wars era.

I wouldn't really call James Roberts in the 2000s a "fan". Or at least not one who was in touch with Transformers after the 90's. He was a fan in the 90's and involved in fans circles, but he never kept abreast of things or bothered to research much beyond his own childhood/teen years. I, as someone born in the 90's with access to the internet in the 2000's, had a better grasp of JP Transformers than he did.
The guy didn't even remember that Ultra Magnus had a white Optimus for the core robot.
