Expectations, Cinemaphile?
>"On planet Cybertron, friends Optimus Prime and Megatron find themselves on rival sides of a civil war for the fate of the universe."
>Chris Hemsworth as Orion Pax / Optimus Prime.
>Brian Tyree Henry as Megatron.
>Scarlett Johansson as Elita.
>Keegan Michael-Key as Bumblebee.
>Jon Hamm as Sentinel Prime.
>Laurence Fishburne as Alpha Trion.
>The film, which will be "separate and apart from" the Michael Bay-directed franchise and the stand-alone Bumblebee
>"separate and apart from"
So, will it be a prequel or another reboot?
I guess rise of the beasts didn't do well enough to warrant another sequel?
No, this was in the pipeline before Rise released
>Expectations
Theoretically hyped, but I try to suppress it because I never liked any of the TF movies after the animated one + movies tend to be afraid of doing anything risky or new + the director did toy story 4 which had an absolutely awfully cringe trailer so I don't expect him to have any sort of talent.
Another issue I have is that Elita seems to be prominent. That's never a good sign and personally I hated her and Orion's backstory from G1 so if it's this I am not very interested.
Don't give me any hopes.
A separate thing; Spiderverse isn't a live action Spider-man movie reboot.
prequel reboot
Started out as a prequel and became a standalone, unlike Bumblebee and ROTB which are turning out to be bayverse prequels
>which are turning out to be bayverse prequels
Then why are the Autobots (and Maximals) already on Earth which is apparently separate from Unicron?
They're not prequels and only that idiot producer Lorenzo Whoever still claims they are.
Confirmed for having not seen the movies
I'm sick of human characters in transformers movies
it's set on cybertron so don't expect annoying human companions to appear
it's animated
WHICH Sentinel Prime though? This is the biggest mystery here.
I hope they won't create yet another version of him, sucks to have like 7 characters with the same name.
Hyped as frick, im always gonna be hyped for more Transformers. i liked ROTB but i do worry about the box office right now, Transformers One could be a bright future if its done right with a cheaper budget, it can make that money. Hoping with it being in September next year, it can really dominate in whats normally a lull period for film.
i really like the voice cast assembled tbh. its a lot like the Mario movie but less wtf at first glance. i think Laurence Fishburne's Alpha Trion is a perfect casting choice admittedly, Morpheus as A3 thats exactly the kind of wise old mentor to use as a basis.
>WHICH Sentinel Prime though? This is the biggest mystery here.
they casts Jon Hamm. i think he's gonna be very TFA esque. if they had cast a much older actor like a Donald Sutherland or Christopher Walken or someone like that then i'd imagine it'd be an older one. I'm guessing Sentinel will be the original/previous autobot leader but he's younger and more of a douche like his TFA self.
Kinda hope Sentinel will be a mix between IDW2 Sent and TFA Sent. IDW2 Sentinel was trying to be a worthy leader but he was slightly incompetent and permanently unfocused but not stupid, something like that would be nice. I prefer the movie to be more on the serious side to be honest, even if it has jokes. Personally I like the orange toy design the most and it would be the easiest way to make more money of him since he's just a repainted Astrotrain with different head.
i love IDW2019 Sentinel but i don't see Jon Hamm playing this.
Well people said they wanted a transformers movie without any humans, and there you go
>actual Transformers War movie
>Paperboi as Megatron
Great. Get Nick Roche on the writing staff and I'm sold.
>LESBIANS! ROBOTS KISSING ROBOTS, NOT KISSING YOU!
Elita is in so we will rather get a lot of strong woman shit nobody has asked for.
Gender Identity is false.
Especially in robots.
I mean yeah I kinda agree. But this will never be undone again or else everybody would screech for erasing women. I know people hate it but I think that's the one thing steven universe did right. Choosing one of the two gendered pronouns for the aliens and call all of them "she" the way other series consider every alien a "he" if they have no gender identity for not being a organic species (as most translations do with Houseki no Kuni).
>Sure, I'll accept an alien robot turning into a truck, a gun, a cassete player, a boombox, and a bug
>But ushing gendered pronouns is unrealistic.
Please frick off.
Two different things. It makes no sense to have gender roles if there are no genders and there are no genders if there is no sex or sexual organs.
It makes sense for there to be alt-mode specific roles because they actually have alt-modes. 99% of all modern MCs are female anyway and 90% of anime characters are women, you can latch onto those if you cannot relate to anything with a male pronoun. There was never a need to force them in where it makes no sense.
also the guy who invented gender did unspeakable things to children so like.... frick that guy
To be honest I love Furman for his world building besides the weird Arcee shit. I rarely like his character writing though and IIRC some of his comics felt almost like snuff porn unless I am mixing him up with another early IDW writer. I am all in for some characters dying in a war world, but hate it when writers feel the need to massacre 80% of the cast, it never helps making things more dramatic it only discourages me from reading more since everybody I got attached to is gone.
That was Roberts. Roche is the guy that make robogore and tries to make it a message about living forward,
Roberts frankly just writes Doctor Who fanfiction and tries to pretend it's about Transformers.
I don't get my hopes up but I will watch and support it for two reasons:
- fully animated
- no humans
- movie story that is largely or at least partially pre-war
Even if it's bad it cannot hurt showing them that they're going in the right direction.
>two reasons
>listing three
I am moronic and only thought of the third one when I was already typing the end of the post. This is why you should always double-check the shit you write down.
Only promo pic we have so far
They look like Bionicles.
ironic cause Transit actually looked like the white rakshi.
Is it just me or do they have no kibble and alt-modes yet?
Could be a world where they chose them later, like Rubble in IDW2 or Terrans in ES.
maybe but i think they just focused on the silhouette cause they probably haven't finalized the designs, it is concept art after all. i hope the designs are good, im not the biggest fan of most cybertronian modes. though i did really like Siege cause it was like futuristic version of their earth modes or really close enough.
Same I dislike almost all of the cartoon designs. Ironically the awful De Santo series were the only exception since they were basically just the toylines Hasbro was selling at that point and the toys were updated versions of the G1 designs.
man the netflix show sucked so hard. i think out of all the shows that exist, i think its the series i have the least amount of positives to say about it, i consider myself a super fan and can find some merit in the dogshit where i see it but Netflix WFC got so much wrong than right.
>i think out of all the shows that exist, i think its the series i have the least amount of positives to say about it
Yeah this. And it's fricking crazy because on paper it had everything I wanted. It was all space and cybertron, it had no humans, it was a more serious TF cartoon for once and it even had personal favorites of mine like Impactor finally appearing in a cartoon.
And yet they managed to frick that up somehow. No idea how.
Good idea people
Bad actualizers
Could be that cybertronian altmodes are just more streamlined and seamless.
really hoping the toyline has the same energy that the ROTB mainline got with creativity instead of the usual kid product line stuff that seems so low energy.
Might be cool. Something tells me if ROTB flops they'll use this as a reboot.
Again.
in hindsight a smart back up, Spider-Verse was originally concieved as a backup plan for Sony if the MCU Spider-Man ended up having rights issues. never put all your eggs in one basket. im glad Paramount and Hasbro at least thought ahead here. who knows this could be what people really want.
say what you will of Sony but they have several backup plans and that scares Disney.
These are the WORST choices for Optimus and Megatron, holy shit.
Peter Cullen is going to voice Optimus post matrix, Chris Hemsworth is essentially Orion Pax in this (dunno if he'll actually be called that in the film but the plan is to have both him and Cullen be Optimus in this). Honestly i'm really intrigued by the casting, Hemsworth could get a real shot to show his more dramatic chops here, he's not using his natural Australian accent also so thats at least different from him, as for Brian Tyree Henry, i'd never have imagined Jefferson Davis or Lemon as Megatron but honestly if you took the Jefferson voice, gave him Lemon's english accent...i think we have something here.
Sauce or you're gay
https://news.tfw2005.com/2023/06/09/lorenzo-di-bonaventura-speaks-about-transformers-one-animated-movie-486647
Lorenzo confirms that both Cullen and Hemsworth are Optimus in this, plus Peter Cullen confirmed i believe in like March or April at a con he was recording for Transformers One.
Oh no
They found a spark of hope in me to crush
On the mere basis of it being animated I'm more interested on it than any future main installment. Altough after BB and RotB I'm geniunly optomistic for once, it seems like they finally got how to make these.
>it seems like they finally got how to make these
To think, all they had to do was kick a certain someone out of a certain chair.
I hope it will be different in tone than the other cartoons though. I like CV and Earthspark, but hope the movie won't just be another quirky comedy version TF like them just with a 90 minutes runtime.
This is a bit off-topic, but how did I never hear about Furman's new robot comic until yesterday?
I only casually saw an artist on twitter posting about it. Looking into the archive it only had a single thread that died after three posts. How? Wasn't Furman popular here?
I hope I can order this somewhere. Seems like there are no digital versions around but maybe my manga shop guy can get the floppies at least.
>that art
That's a fricking blast from the past did this artist used to do how to draw books?
It's /ourguy/ Perez. Not sure if he did how to draw books, but he was streaming a few times IIRC. And he sometimes casually appeared in our IDW TF storytime threads.
No Bay, no watch
This but the other way around. No Bay means it's the first TF movie I will watch in a cinema.
Yes way no Bay!
>Alpha Trion
I can already hear sounds of snoring. I always hated that homosexual and that one IDW spotlight was the only time they have ever made him a person but they retconned it and turned him back to the wise old man plot device that he always was.
Hope Sentinel rapes his ass.
why?
He doesn't have a personality, he only exists to be a plot device. In this case being the the old wise quest NPC that tells Orion what to do and explains what the mcguffin is before he gets killed by the unwise antagonist. He is more of a symbol than a character and always very boring but everybody talks about him for how wise he is.
He gets some cred from being one of the 13.
Alpha trion is just robot gandalf.
What are the chances that all or any of those characters will be in now that they're getting toys? It's not a bad timing that we get Orion and other pre-war toys when the pre-war/early-war origin movie was just announced.
Can't you at least post well-drawn art if you feel the need to spam? Do you throw a tantrum now? Flooding is against the rules, go to /trash/ or something if you have nothing to say about the topic.
I really hate most of the fembot designs.
The concept sounds great and exciting but I hate the celebrity cast.
Do you want to know who cast for the new bots in the 86 movie?
Eh, good point. I can only hope this is a fraction as decent.
I don't know any celebrities who is a celebrity so far? The VA for Orion and Megs from OP's pic? I recently googled the black guy and kinda liked his voice. Forgot about the other dude.
Lawrence Fishburne Alpha Trion huh.
>Expectations, Cinemaphile?
I just hope they don't try to turn megatrons crusade against the corrupt government of cybertron into a preachy political metaphor.
>Overthrowing a government isn't political.
I hope it will actually focus on Orion and Megatron's life and later conflicts and not Bumble Bee being funny again.
I even like Bee but it wouldn't be the first story that drags because they focus on him too much. Though ES and IDW2 Bee were likeable I must admit.
Political shit is fine as long as it isn't some obvious commentary on current conflicts that will age like milk. Dystopian stories are inherently political but most of them are timeless because they deal with archetypal conflicts like the abuse of power or urge to mind control or radical technocracies or something. To me at least Functionism worked well for that. But I preferred the corrupt senate and Sentinel/Nominus over the actual Council clowns.
Sentinel in general was a cool as shit antagonist and I am bit sad that we never got this Dreamwave/early IDW1 Sentinel back. Still the best IMO and he has the best design and power-ups too. Dreamwave is criminally underrated.
Moonracer a cute.
MY biggest fear is that they make Orion insecure and stupid again. I still think that Coptimus was the best Orion we have ever gotten by far.
I never liked the trope of the insecure twat becoming the strong hero after being chosen. I want a cool Orion for once. Even WfC (Netflix) Optimus was a fricking wimp, I hate it. I don't want him to be edgy or mean, but he should show some passion at least.
Watch them get more Mario movie tier-level castings like this:
Seth Rogen - Wheeljack
Hannibal Buress - Jazz
Grey DeLisle - Arcee (She gets a reprisal after being replaced by Liza Koshy and her as the sole veteran VA in this like how Kevin Michael Richardson did in Mario)
Andy Samberg - Hot Rod
Jason Isaacs - Cogman
Kumail Nanjiani - Blurr
Karen Fukuhara - Windblade
Steven Yuen - Drift
Jason Mantzoukas - Crosshairs
Will Forte - Beachcomber
J.K. Simmons - Stratosphere
Christian Slater - Devcon
Idris Elba - Smokescreen
Jack Black - Starscream
Giancarlo Esposito - Shockwave
Rose Byrne - Slipstream
Natasia Demetriou - Shadow Striker
John Cena - Barricade
Karl Urban - Lockdown
Laurie Holden - Shatter
Mahershala Ali - Dropkick
Jeffrey Dean Morgan - Onslaught
Bob Odenkirk - Swindle
Keith David - Overlord
Nick Kroll - Knockout
I don't care much about the VAs since I just switch the languages if I don't like it but I hope that the bot cast will be interesting. They better make it a bit different for an origin story and don't throw the same 15 bots in that we always get.
is John Moschita Jr. still around? i know you can just speed up the voices and stuff with effects, but i still think he's the definitive voice for Blurr. same for Weird Al as Wreck-Gar. granted, i also don't know many other VAs for Blurr so i could be totally wrong, but it'd still feel off without 'em
Literally going to pass on cast alone. Ridiculous
I have good news for you
They blew all the casting budget on announced names
So everyone else will be voiced by Sean Chiplock
Fricking finally. No Earth/human shit in a Transformers flick. Goddamn, it took them way too long to do this.
