Transformers: Rise of the Beasts

>Arcee’s hips and thighs sway with literally every step she takes in the movie.

Primus was on to something.

Went in knowing frick all about the movie, it was alright, the standard of the Bayformers has me at broken perception of what makes a good Transformers movie. Raveger was a right bastard, the excuses to get the humans in the movie was thin, as is transformers tradition, but not intolerable. Could’ve been better yeah, could’ve been a HELL of a lot worse. They basically reverted back to AOE/TLK style storytelling instead of following Bumblebee's example of "Make the plot make sense. Explain things. Don't have things happen for no reason. Have the characters act like characters"

It's basically just Mirage, and his friends the Autobots. Prime doesn't get a lot to do, he's just a massive stupid prick the whole movie, Bumblebee is dead for most of the runtime, Pablo, Rhinox, and Cheetor may well have not existed (the way they couldn't even get clear shots of their robot modes during the fight almost seemed to be on purpose), Arcee is just there for fap bait and I think the production knew it.

I find it fricking hilarious how they double-triple down on Optimus being a bloodthirsty psychopath. Optimus Primal started off admiring him then got freaked out when they actually met. Yes, he DOES go for the main villain’s face even though he’s supposed to be invincible by shoving it into lava after tearing off his arms. And his reaction to Unicron offering him anything to keep the transwarp bridge open is howling I WANT YOU TO DIE and the sky

At least this was one of the few times when it was justifiable.

Do we get an Arcee vs Nightbird catfight?

No, there's no designated female character fight., they fight everyone equally. Arcee gets fricking bodied by Battletrap at one point.
The early action scenes in the movie are great, they just fall back to the same boring (and completely inexplicable) "horde of generics" deal at the end.

Also they acknowledge Unicron is a god. This does not dampen Optimus’ enthusiasm for killing Unicron himself if he ever dares show his face on Earth again, seriously they’re doing this big speech about Maximals and Autobots working together and Prime’s just like I WILL KILL A GOD

In IDW2, Cybertron is pre-war and home to several organic refugee species. One if these species keep servant apes attached to them with head cables. Starscream is fricking around in the Cybertronian wilderness when he hears spooky noises, which are often attributed to a age-old mythological terror. He finds an escaped ape, its damaged head cable tangled on the environment. Starscream figures out it's starved and gone mad and has only survived by the head cable siphoning energon from the planet.Deciding to put the ape out of its misery and to stop the indignity of an organic draining Cybertron's resources, he moves to kill the ape. But the damaged cable sucks his spark out of his body. Starscream freaks the frick out in the ape's body, until he realises he's not alone in it. There's another spark trapped inside.
It's Starscream's old mentor, essentially his mother figure. In IDW2 some Transformers allow Cybertron to absorb their body and spark when they feel their life is over. Except, MomScream got trapped in the ape instead. She's been making the ape panic and scream, hoping someone would investigate. Instead, it's been driving Cybertronians away. Oh, also, she's gone crazy from isolation.
MomScream figures she can move the ape over to Starscream's body, move her spark to it, and take revenge on Cybertron for not helping her. She and Starscream race throughout the ape's body, havibg a metaphorical battle for doninance. Starscream prevails and returns to his body. He breifly reconsiders he initial plan of putting the ape (and thus also MomScream) out of their misery, but insteads decides to keave the ape alive. The myth if the wilderness screams is a part of Cybertronian culture, you see, and Starscream loves Cybertron. MomScream realizes Starscream is leaving her trapped in the ape, and it begins screaming again - not for help, but in pure anguish.

Prime reaction image material. Also Jesus Fricking Christ that was spooky.

I liked Noah. Wish they'd done more with his tech wizardry. Like, if he'd tried to repair Bee, but failed, getting the idea that there was a whole new level of tech that surpassed everything humans knew. Speaking of Bee, what was the point of 'killing him' midpoint when the trailer shows him in the final battle? For a moment I believed the film would pull something, like the trailer was fake and Bee really died. Also, the beasts didn't do a lot of rising for a movie called Rise of the Beasts.

I really like how despite being depicted as a bog-standard 'sexy lady' in humanoid form, her proportions make her look like a normal woman with an actual torso and not a pin-wide hourglass figure. It would have been so easy to make her waist one-inch-wide and have her arms be chopsticks, but she looks like a real person. It's pretty nice to see hollywood move on from twig women to women who at least look like they have internal organs, even if this iteration isn't actually a human woman she is at least styled to imply one.

        How Woke was it?

        You lie.
        - White hiring guy: Your references show you being uncooperative, and I don't want to hire someone like that. (shit sucks, but he's not racist)
        - White clinic lady: You are overdue in paying us, and your brother's condition is not life threatening at the moment. (american health system is terrible, but she's not racist)
        - White boss lady: just a typical bad boss, had no racist undertones. was nice to black lady character when not being a bad boss

        And at the end:
        - Different white hiring guy: Offers Noah a job, sets up payment for bother's treatment

Race only comes up twice in the movie:
        - Noah mom tells him to laugh at all the interviewer's jokes, because white people fall for that
        - Wheeljack has being hanging around Peru and picked up an accent, they do a lame "are you being racist" joke.

Speaking of Wheeljack, there was literally NO reason for him to be Wheeljack. He contributes absolutely nothing to the plot, shows up out of nowhere (We need to go to Peru! Oh btw Wheeljack's already in Peru conveniently), and he does nothing Wheeljack-like. They had a great classic Wheeljack design in Bumblebee and they threw everything about it away simply to make him look like Urkel. Except he doesn't do anything Urkel-like either! Literally his only contribution to the movie was making the racism "joke" and letting Arcee and the humans ride in him while the others fought.

He felt like he could have been a Rattrap stand in so they didn't have to shove in a giant robot mouse in with the cooler Maximals but the concept got away from them as production went on. He even said the "we're all gonna die" line.

The tower, I think, you can hand wave away by just saying the Transwarp key manifests a bridge from bullshit space magic. And Unicron needed it so he could jump between points in space, otherwise he's just floating around. Now he just has to float slowly to Earth the old fashioned way for revenge just in time for the big finale team-up movie.
No idea on why the bridge would need a built-in security system of creepy evil-looking robots though.

Bayverse and Bumblebeeverse are different continuities.

        Bayverse:
        >Transformers
        >Revenge of the Fallen
        >Dark of the Moon
        >Age of Extinction
        >The Last Knight

        Bumbebeeverse:
        >Bumblebee
        >Rise of the Beasts

Bumblebee started production as a prequel to Bayverse, but it got changed halfway through to be a reboot. As a result, there's some lingering references to Bayverse, but those can be treated as simple references and not actual story connections. I mean, Bumblebee turning into a VW doesn't make the movie G1, does it? No.

It's kind of a mess where everyone who's working on them seems to be fighting each other on if any of these movies are reboots, sequels, or other. From how I look at it, the first 3 are one continuous continuity, 4 and 5 use the first 3 as a loose skeleton for what happened before but freely ignore stuff that it doesn't want to use. Bumblebee is a straight reboot, but since it was initially filmed as a prequel some of that slips through in the final cut. RotB is a light sequel to Bumblebee, its only connection being a throwaway line that references Charlie (but not by name). RotB can still weasel its way into the original 3 movies' continuity with a little bit of retconning, but it definitely cannot be a part of 4 and 5's.

Unless you're as moronic as Lorenzo di Bonaventura who is still adamant that all of these movies are telling the same continuous story.

Interesting. I'll have to watch Bumblebee then, and then see this one. Thanks guys.

Lorenzo di Bonaventura literally doesn't understand what a reboot is. He said so himself in an interview at one point. Like, his brain does not have the ability to conceptualize different continuities. And yet he works in Hollywood, the land of reboots.

In the Latin Spanish dub Optimus explicitly speaks of Charlie so that's based if they added that.

The way it was done in English is he said something along the lines of "I know you made a connection with a human in the past" when he was being a pissy b***h about fraternizing with humans to Bumblebee.

No, the main character gets a recruitment offer at the end by a generic office man.

      >that fricking GI Joe ending (wtf?)
Transformers crossing over with GI Joe is a staple of Transformers, dating back to both the original cartoon and original comics. In the comics, sharing a universe with GI Joe is how Bumblebee dies and Megatron is reborn. In the cartoon, one of the main human characters is the daughter of some Joes, and Cobra Commander shows up for an episode.
      Transformers has crossed over with GI Joe in 1986, 1987, 1993, 1994, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2021, 2022, and 2023.

    >We split the key in half and kept the location of the two halves secret from one another to safeguard it from misuse.
    Okay, that's a sensible precaution.
    >We also kept the emergency shutdown password split in half and secret from one another.
    WHY.

For corporate synergy in the new transformers, the main characters (an older brother and younger brother) call each other sonic and tails as nicknames. It's also established the younger brother is fighting some disease but he's also playing mario and notes twice in the movie how he's struggling to beat Bowser and how he will do it.

They never show him beating Bowser which bothered me cus I thought it was setup and was gonna correlate to the theme of overcoming the odds or whatever. It's never potrayed in a comedic sense and more of a dramatic one because in the second scene his hands are all hurt because he keeps losing the boss.

But it also makes me think, why wasn't the kid just playing a sonic game? Would much change if he said he had to beat Dr Eggman/Robotnik instead of Bowser? Is it just because Bowser is probably a more well known name?

      >some disease
they literally name it. It's not like it's some obscure disease either, it's a pretty well known one
      >why wasn't the kid just playing a sonic game?
because the script had some walking out to the kitched playing it, and they'd have to have him hold a game gear for that to happen. the game boy is much more recognizable to audiences, which is also probably why they had the NES sounds and Bowser instead of anything that what actually on the game boy.

      Could be playing SMB Deluxe

SMB Deluxe was a Game Boy Color game.

When the iron man suit came out I almost died. How stupid that moment was combined with the poor air quality had me literally weezing.

Mirage was previously established to be a Shifter in the movie and "human helps control the Transformer body" isn't new in the franchise either. Though it begs the question why Mirage didn't just form himself into a smaller, autonomous form after being damaged.
